BLAKE Ferguson will meet with “the big fella” next week to try and settle his uncertain playing future.
The NSW winger remains unsigned for next season — an unusual situation given he is also an incumbent Australian winger.
The “big fella” Ferguson referred to was powerful Sydney Roosters chairman Nick Politis.
Ferguson wants to re-sign but was generally noncommittal when asked about his future.
“I don’t know — I want to stay at the Roosters but I’m keeping my options open,” he said.
“I will catch up with the big fella next week — Nick, the boss. I will see him and have a chat.
“At the end of the day, I have to look after my family and I know it’s probably one of my last contracts.
“I don’t want to leave the Roosters, I’d be shattered to leave. I’m loyal as well. I love the club. I just have to weigh up a few things.”
Asked if he knew where he might play next season, he said: “I’ve got a fair idea but I am keeping that to myself.
“My manager (Sam Ayoub) is doing a pretty good job behind the scenes. I haven’t really worried about it. It’s not taking a toll on me.
“I know it’s going to happen. It’s footy, you have to come off contract and sign new deals.”
NSW five-eighth James Maloney also addressed his future, despite being under contract for next season at Cronulla.
There has been speculation Maloney was seeking an extension and pay increase from the Sharks.
“I have another year to go. I am talking to Cronulla, just trying to find out beyond that, where they stand,” Maloney said.
“I’m happy at Cronulla, I’m enjoying my footy, I love the club.”
