NRL 2020: Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson praises Morris twins “class act”

In an ominous warning for the Cowboys next week, Roosters coach Trent Robinson has challenged his team to be better following their incredible golden point thriller loss to the Storm at Suncorp Stadium.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has labelled the Morris twins a “class act” as the defending premiers now look to bounce back from their nailbiting golden point defeat at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday.

Both Brett and Josh Morris scored a treble of tries against Melbourne, in what appeared to give the Roosters the upper hand leading 10 points with 10 minutes to go.

The impenetrable Melbourne defence was broken apart by both 33-year-old’s on three occasions and the seven tackle busts between them proved age was just a number.

The pair now hold 301 NRL tries between them to become the game’s greatest ever try-scoring siblings.

Robinson praised his outside back duo for their ability to create something out of nothing.

“They’re a very polished group of guys,” Robinson said.

“They know how to finish, as they did (on Thursday night).

“If they get a half, or three-quarter of an opportunity, they’ll make it an opportunity to score a try.

“They’re defensive work was very good on both sides.

“I thought they defended really well.

“They’re a class act.”

The head coach was left “proud but disappointed” in his side’s 27-25 thriller at Suncorp Stadium.

Despite the game being described as the best match of 2020, Robinson admitted the tricolours had to be better.

“We need to be better than what we were (on Thursday night),” he said.

“For 72 minutes, we conceded two tries off our own errors and I thought we were staunch the whole game.

“We worked really hard.

“We just applied enough pressure to ourselves to leave the door open eventually.”

The Roosters are without Sam Verrills and Victor Radley, who suffered season-ending knee injuries against the Eels, and now face a nervous wait for the health of captain Boyd Cordner (concussion) and Daniel Tupou (ankle) for next week’s clash against the Cowboys.

Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary said there was no concern for alarm with the caliber of their backup players.

“We’ve dealt with this over the last few years,” Keary said.

“We have people out all the time.

“To lose the two boys last week was pretty devastating but you can’t dwell on that and move on.

“You’ll see when Isaac Liu comes back, he’ll probably slot in that role of a good ballplayer, the same with Nat Butcher.”
