THE MUMPS continues to sweep through the Sydney Roosters with star recruit James Tedesco the latest player to contract the highly contagious virus.

Tedesco has been quarantined from the rest of the playing group and his first outing for his new club has been put on hold as the Roosters try to halt the virus from spreading any further. Tedesco is the latest Roosters to be struck down by the mumps after the Daily Telegraph revealed veteran Mitchell Aubusson and a member of the coaching staff had shown signs of the virus earlier this month, forcing them both to be quarantined. There are suggestions there has been a breakout of the highly contagious virus in the Eastern Suburbs.

A Roosters spokeswoman confirmed Tedesco would miss the club’s opening trial against Penrith on Saturday night.

“James has been isolated as he receives the necessary course of treatment and will rejoin his teammates next week,” a Roosters spokeswoman said.

The Roosters headquarters were given a near forensic clean after the original outbreak. From water bottles, gym equipment, food preparation areas and even staff desks have been sanitised.

The NRL — who shares their Moore Park headquarters alongside the Roosters — also sent a staff wide email earlier this month detailing that there had been an outbreak at the Roosters and told staff about potential symptoms.

Aubusson was cleared to rejoin his Roosters teammates at a training camp in New Zealand last week.

Tedesco was also part of the pre-season camp in Queenstown. The situation was made even tricker for Aubusson who had to steer clear from his baby daughter Daisy — with her being too young to receive a vaccine against the virus.
