Reni Maitua joins fourth club in 12 months after signing one-year deal with Leigh Centurions
FORMER Bulldogs backrower Reni Maitua has created his own slice of history by joining his fourth club in the past 12 months.
FORMER NRL star Reni Maitua has signed a one-year deal with second-tier English rugby league club Leigh Centurions.
Maitua, a premiership-winner with Canterbury in 2004, played his final NRL game with the same club last season after stints with Cronulla and Parramatta between 2009 and 2013.
The one-time Australian representative was part of the Bulldogs squad last season before signing a two-year deal with Featherstone Rovers earlier this year.
He then joined Salford on a mid season transfer before making the switch to Leigh.
The 33-year old will join fellow NRL veterans Dayne Weston and Fuifui Moimoi in the Centurions squad next season.
“Reni is a great player who will add versatility and strike to our squad. I am looking forward to him joining the team and being a part of another successful year for the Centurions,” said Leigh coach Paul Rowley.
The signing comes 48 hours after Leigh announced the capture of Salford’s Australian forward Cory Paterson on a three-year deal. The Centurions will remain in the Kingstone Press Championship in 2016 after topping the league this year, but managing to win just one game in the Super 8 qualifiers.
