NRL 2021: Latrell Mitchell facing ban of up to four weeks for dangerous elbow on David Nofoaluma

Staring at an extended stint on the sidelines after being hit with three charges, it’s been revealed Latrell Mitchell had other things on his mind at the end of the clash with Wests Tigers.

Latrell Mitchell’s father Matt has been released from hospital after a suspected heart scare at Stadium Australia while watching South Sydney’s win over Wests Tigers.

It comes as Mitchell is facing a three-to-four match ban after copping three separate charges from the NRL’s match review committee on Sunday.

Mitchell raced from the field at fulltime of the golden point victory on Saturday night and was handed a mobile phone.

He then headed directly to hospital along with his family.

“There was an issue with Latrell there but it’s not something you need to know about. It’s not about rugby league, it’s about life,” said Souths coach Wayne Bennett.

“There’s nothing that anyone has to worry about. It’s his and his family’s business.”

Mitchell was instrumental in the 18-14 win.

The Rabbitohs superstar is extremely close to his family — he recently described purchasing a property for his parents on the outskirts of Taree as “a lifelong dream”.

Meanwhile, Mitchell is facing a three-to-four match ban for his dangerous elbow on Wests Tigers winger David Nofoaluma.

In a dramatic fall out from Saturday night’s thrilling comeback win over Wests Tigers, Mitchell is also facing two separate $1600 fines for incidents involving forward Luke Garner.

The Rabbitohs take on the Titans on the Gold Coast next Saturday with Bennett expected to shift Alex Johsnton to fullback and bring Jaxson Paulo onto the wing.

Mitchell’s dangerous incident involving Nofoaluma came when he was attempting to stop a try and had many questioning how he stayed on the field at the time.

At the very least, many thought it warranted a sin-binning.

One of the other incidents was when he lashed out with his boot and only narrowly missed Garner’s head.

On that occassion, Tigers coach Michael Maguire questioned why the bunker didn’t intervene.

Fox League commentary’s Corey Parker labelled the kick a”terrible look”.

After the Titans, Souths face Canberra and Melbourne.
