Greg Inglis thinking long-term with disappointing All-Stars withdrawal
A disappointed Greg Inglis has withdrawn from the revamped Indigenous all-stars match with a knee injury, saying he needs to manage his body ahead of a long NRL season.
A knee injury has ruled Greg Inglis out of the revamped Indigenous all-stars match.
The Daily Telegraph revealed on Friday that Inglis was struggling with a flare up of the knee which saw him miss all but one game in 2017.
The South Sydney skipper is racing the clock to be fit for the Rabbitohs round one clash against the Roosters with the injury ruling him out of all pre-season fixtures.
It means Inglis won’t play for the Indigenous side against a Maori side in Melbourne on February 15.
“It’s disappointing that I won’t be able to play All Stars but I need to manage the body ahead of the season,” Inglis said.
“I haven’t been able to train much and I wouldn’t want to go into a game of that importance and intensity underdone.
“I’m sure there will be a great crowd down in Melbourne. From my time in Melbourne I know there will be a lot of support for the Maori team and I think it will be an amazing spectacle and an important occasion as always.
“I’m sure (coach) Laurie (Daley) will have a fantastic team of proud individuals and I can’t wait to see them play.
“It will be great as always to see the Aboriginal community get behind the team through the week and cheer them home on the night.”
