Penrith sign former Gold Coast Suns player Josh Hall
THE Panthers have pulled a recruit out of left field by signing Gold Coast Suns player Josh Hall on a two-year deal.
THE Panthers have made one of the more unusual recruitments of the season and signed Gold Coast Suns forward Josh Hall on a two-year deal.
Hall, a former World Youth medallist in high jump, had earlier this season made inquiries about signing with the Gold Coast Titans, but will link with Penrith in 2016.
At 197cm tall, Hall fell just short of Olympic qualification in 2012 and was selected by the Suns in the 2012 rookie draft.
He has played seven games for the Suns in the three seasons since, kicking three goals.
“From the first time I met Josh I was impressed with his personality and enthusiasm,” Panthers General Manager Phil Gould said.
“He possesses great athletic ability and if desire counts for anything, he has a bright future ahead of him.
“Josh is well aware of the challenges he faces but a successful transition will no doubt inspire others to follow.
“It won’t be easy for Josh but we will do everything in our power to make his dream a reality.”
A Townsville junior, Hall played league as a junior and will be developed as an outside back.
The history of cross code athletes between the AFL and NRL is relatively scant, with Israel Folau and Karmichael Hunt the only two sportsmen to play first grade in both competitions.
West Coast Eagles midfielder Adrian Barich signed with the newly formed Western Reds in 1995, but did not make a first grade appearance.
