THE Gold Coast are refusing to release Tyrone Peachey after the playmaker revealed he has instructed his manager he wants to renege on his three-year Titans deal to remain in Sydney for family reasons.

Peachey confirmed his partner is happy and wants to stay.

The couple recently built a new home in Penrith and they are reluctant to relocate.

Peachey said he has told his manager Sam Ayoub he wanted to finalise his future after the Panthers’ finals campaign.

“We’ve just built in Penrith and the missus is real comfortable in that place,” Peachey said.

“I spoke to my manager and told him what I want to happen.

“I also told him I don’t want to worry about anything until the end of the year.

“I just want to worry about Penrith for the moment and we’ll figure the rest out at the end of the year.”

However, Titans CEO Graham Annesley said the club won’t release Peachey and expect him to honour his deal.

“The situation from our point of view is very simple,” Annesley said.

“Tyrone signed a legally binding contract which we expect him to honour.

“You could imagine if the situation was reversed and Tyrone was desperate to come but we changed our mind.

“How well would that go down.”

Peachey said he never wanted to leave Penrith and hopes he can work out an arrangement to stay.

“I love this club” he said.

“They gave me my first opportunity to play consistent first grade.

“I wouldn’t have left if I didn’t have to, but my manager is dealing with it.”

Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher has confirmed the club does not have room within the salary cap to keep Peachey.

This means the NSW Origin star would have to sign with another Sydney club if the Titans release him from his three-year deal starting next season.

“We can’t fit him in our cap,” Fletcher said.

“We’ve upgraded other players on the proviso Tyrone had signed his deal with the Gold Coast.

“We’d love to have him but he got offered such a good deal by the Gold Coast.

“Hopefully he can get picked up in Sydney and stay living where he is.”

Parramatta, Wests Tigers and Canterbury could all enter the race should Peachey become a free agent.
