LATE MAIL: Who’s in, who’s out
Three players have been charged by the NRL’s match review committee following a heated clash between South Sydney and Newcastle.
South Sydney duo Tom and Sam Burgess were charged as was Newcastle’s Daniel Saifiti.
Tom will miss one game having been hit with a grade one striking charge. If he fights it and losses he will be slapped with a two game ban.
Sam and Saifiti will escape suspension having been whacked with fines. Sam - who will undergo shoulder surgery next week - was hit with a $1350 fine while Saifiti a $1150 fine for grade one contrary conduct charges.
The trio were sin-binned along with Newcastle’s Lachlan Fitzgibbon after a melee kicked off right on halftime following an ill-tempered and spiteful first half. Fitzgibbon escaped a ban.
The Rabbitohs will lose the Burgess brothers regardless - Sam will undergo shoulder surgery and is expected to return in Round 17 while an ankle injury will keep Tom out for 3-6 weeks.
