IT was an extraordinary privilege to be there to see Alex McKinnon marrying his loving partner, Teigan, in the Hunter Valley last Sunday.
The event was unforgettable for the lucky ones who witnessed the couple dedicate their lives to each other.
There were plenty of tears, but so, too, plenty of laughs.
The arrival down the aisle of page boy Dante Gagai, the 18-month-old son of groomsman and Test star Dane Gagai, on a tricycle broke up any nervous energy to ensure a day loaded with smiles, appreciation and happiness.

There were many magical moments, including speeches by Alex’s father Scott, Teigan’s dad Michael and Alex, who paid tribute to his late grandfather “Jacko”.
But for me, the speech that captivated the entire room was that of Alex’s best-man, Darius Boyd.
After a heartbreaking fortnight that included the loss of his greatest supporter, grandmother Delphine, bombing out of the finals with the Broncos and being ruled out of Australia’s World Cup squad with a hamstring tear, Boyd delivered a speech that stunned all.
From the heart, Boyd spoke of his own personal battles, while revealing how his mateship with Alex began as flatmates in Wollongong, to how proud he was that “through adversity, the world has got to know the man who has inspired me every day since the day I met him’’.
You only wish that the entire rugby league world could have been there.
