THE embattled Eels have been dealt another blow with trouble-plagued Kenny Edwards being mutually “released” from his Parramatta contract.
Edwards was stood down indefinitely by the club earlier this month. after allegedly doing a runner from police after being spotted driving while suspended in Western Sydney.
Edwards avoided attending court when the matter was heard on Tuesday but his lawyer Andrew O’Brien said in Fairfield Local Court that he “anticipated” Edwards client would plead guilty to one charge of driving while suspended after police claim they saw him behind the wheel last month in western Sydney.

Holroyd highway patrol officers claim the Edwards was driving a black Holden Cruze with Queensland numberplates along Sherwood Road in Merrylands West in the opposite direction just before 8am on April 19.
Eels boss Bernie Gurr said Edwards had requested a release.
“Today Kenny Edwards, through his management company, requested a release from his NRL playing contract with Parramatta,” Gurr said.
“This release was granted by the club effective immediately.
“We thank Kenny for his on field contribution during his time with our club and we wish Kenny and his family all the very best in the future.”
It is understood Edwards misled the club about his latest off-field indiscretion.
He was suspended for the first seven games of last season after a domestic violence incident and fined $60,000.. He also sat out the 2015 season after copping a nine-month ban for providing a urine sample on behalf of teammate Kaysa Pritchard.
Edwards, 28, made his NRL debut in 2013 and has played 70 games.
His matter was adjourned and he will again face Fairfield Local Court on July 10.
