PARRAMATTA Eels Hall of Famer Brett Kenny is a club legend not just for his statistical deeds but also for the dazzling physical picture he painted with ball in hand.

The four-time premiership-winning player is most famously remembered as the only man to have scored two tries in three successive first grade grand finals (1981-1983).

He was also the first to score 100 tries for the club (since surpassed by Luke Burt), only Nathan Hindmarsh (330) has played more first grade games for the Eels than Kenny (265) and his 21 tries in the 1983 season ranks behind only Semi Radradra (24) and Steve Ella (23) in Parramatta’s record books.

On top of that he played 17 times for the NSW Blues, another 17 times for Australia (keeping Wally Lewis out of the team initially) and four times for City.

His honours included the Golden Boot in 1985, the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and being named one of Australia’s 100 Greatest Players in 2008.

Kenny was also the first Australian to win the Lance Todd Trophy as man of the match in England’s Challenge Cup final in 1985.

Still, what makes fans misty-eyed is not the numbers or trophies but the memory of Kenny — lauded for his catlike anticipation, dazzling acceleration and devastating step — slicing through an opponent’s defence.

Premiership-winning teammate Ray Price was known as Mr Perpetual Motion but Kenny was simply poetry in motion.
