St George Illawarra star Tyson Frizell has revealed his desire to win an NRL premiership – the last goal yet to be ticked off on his stellar career – will determine where he plays in 2021.

Off contract at the end of this season, 28-year-old Frizell is being seriously pursued by Newcastle Knights franchise who believe the NSW and Australian star could prove the final piece to their title puzzle.

Despite his standing as one of the game’s greatest forwards, Frizell revealed his inability to win a premiership would play a role in what will also be the biggest deal of his career.

Asked about his future after helping the Dragons upset Cronulla in their opening Nines pool game on Friday, Frizell said: “People know that I’m looking to win a premiership and play finals footy -- that’s what we do it for.

“You can go and chase the money, that’s a nice part of it.

“But if that’s what driving us (as players) then we’re not going to be successful.

“A lot of things are taken in this and I haven’t made my decision.

“Once I’ve got all the cards on the table then I’ll know what I’m doing.

“Hopefully it’s here at the Dragons but these things happen and it might not be.

“That’s just a part of footy. But for me, I love the club and hopefully can see myself here long-term.

“But if that’s not the case, then that happens.”

Frizell added that he wanted to have his future sorted as soon as possible.

“I’m hoping to do it sooner rather than later,” he said. “Put it to bed.

“I’m not too worried about money talk. I’d have liked to have done it when there was no footy being played but these things happen … it’s all good.”

Since shifted from Cronulla to the Dragons in 2013, Frizell has become one of the best back-rowers in the game, playing 14 Tests and 11 Origin matches for NSW.

While the Dragons have offered Frizell a three-year deal, the Test star also recently met with Knights officials who are keen to have him join the likes of Mitchell Pearce, Kalyn Ponga and Dave Klemmer in the Hunter.
