Darius Boyd looking to extend his Test winning streak to 22 matches

DARIUS Boyd’s unbeaten streak has stretched to 21 matches and he’s keen to add to it yet again in the Four Nations final.

WITH 21 wins from as many Test appearances, Australian fullback Darius Boyd has enjoyed a golden run at international football.

Boyd has not been beaten in an international game since making his Test debut in 2008. While the Kangaroos have lost the No. 1 ranking and a Four Nations title, injury and personal issues sidelined Boyd as Australia battled against New Zealand.

“I’ve been fortunate to play in some great teams with some great players,” Boyd said. “I’ve missed a few years — been lucky enough to keep my record undefeated.

Boyd is undefeated at Test level.

“I’d be happy to get one more and get this final done. That would be nice.”

Meanwhile, Kangaroos lock Trent Merrin said Panthers teammate Te Maire Martin could handle the halves spot should he be a shock inclusion at five-eighth. While Tohu Harris is expected to replace the injured Thomas Leuluai at five-eighth, Merrin said Martin — who has played just six NRL games — could easily fill a void.

“He is a champion kid,” Merrin said. “His work ethic and willingness to learn is incredible. He works really hard at training and works on the person he is.

“He has a lot of developing to do but if they gave him the chance to play that role I know he will take it and run with it like he did on his (NRL) debut. He is a star and he thrives on that pressure. I know if he gets a crack at it he will do really well.”
