Paul Green says Johnathan Thurston picking up dressing room rubbish sums up Cowboys’ culture

ASKED about his future Immortal filmed picking up rubbish in the dressing room, Cowboys coach Paul Green summed up the all-for-one ethos that fuels his champion team.

Monday Bunker: Finals Week 2

IT was one of the highlights of week two of the NRL finals.

Watching a future rugby league Immortal picking up rubbish in the North Queensland dressing room after the Cowboys’ gutsy upset win against Parramatta.

While Johnathan Thurston hasn’t been able to help on the field for most of the year because of injury, this was another example of how he continues to help shape the club’s culture.

Earlier this season TV cameras caught coach Paul Green doing the same thing after another game.

IN DEMAND: Cowboys face bidding war to retain Green

Asked about it, Green said: “It is important that the leaders of the club set that example.

“Myself, Johnathan, we have to live it. It has to be genuine otherwise it is bullshit really.

“We obviously talk about culture and the things we would like people to say about us. But then it is about us living it and doing it.

“That is the most important thing. It is not about what you say, it is about what you do.

“All of our staff always help unload buses and take gear for everyone. No one is above any job.

“If there is a job there to be done for the team it doesn’t matter who you are, you just get in and do it.

“And that filters throughout our club.”
