Kyle Feldt will tick off one of his final career goals on Saturday when he makes his 200th appearance for the Cowboys and becomes a life member of the club he grew up with.
Although Feldt was a Canberra Raiders fan for years as a child, it was the Cowboys who brought him into the NRL more than a decade ago and built him into a State of Origin winger for Queensland.
Now he is on the cusp of amassing his double-century.
“Now that it’s around the corner it’s slowly started to set in. I’ve had a lot of goals to do in my career and this is one of the last ones that I wanted to tick off,” Feldt said.
“I know how much of a big deal it is for the club and our community to be a part of such an illustrious crew. That’s something that I’ll be a part of come Saturday and that’s something that I’m really looking forward to.”
The 2015 grand final hero said if there was one thing he would change, it would be to savour the small moments in what is usually a fleeting career for footballers.
“It’s been a rollercoaster. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing but I don’t think anyone’s NRL career has been smooth sailing,” Feldt said.
“A lot of emotions. A lot of highs, a lot of lows, a lot of mediocre times but no doubt all the highs outweigh the lows.
“Looking back at it, I wish I could have slowed down a few things when I was younger and took my time and really appreciated the position I was in.
“Now that I’m older and looking back at it, I’m not taking any game for granted and any day at training being in this facility. It’s something that I really enjoy. I enjoy my job and I love coming to work and putting my best foot forward every day.”
Around 100 of Feldt’s family and friends are expected at Saturday’s game to celebrate his milestone.
