Rugby League World Cup CEO Andrew Hill replacing Raelene Castle as Canterbury Bulldogs boss

RUGBY League World Cup CEO Andrew Hill will replace Raelene Castle as Canterbury Bulldogs boss with the mission to rebuild the beleaguered club.

ANDREW Hill has been named as the new chief executive of the Canterbury Bulldogs with the World Cup boss to take over at the end of the year.

Hill will replace the outgoing Raelene Castle who announced earlier this year she would be stepping down from her post as chief executive.

He has an extensive history with rugby league having played for Parramatta and the Western Reds before successfully making the transition into various executive administration roles. He spent 10 years at the Eels before joining the GWS Giants.

Hill was also the NRL’s general manager of integration and game development before stepping into the chief executive role at the Rugby League World Cup last July.

Bulldogs Chairman Ray Dib said Hill stood out from a strong list of candidates.

“We thought it was important that we got a person who had a strong background in the game and understood the culture and ethos of our club,” Dib said.

“Andrew, grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney and has a strong affinity with the history of our club.

“He has an excellent commercial background and knowledge of sport and we are delighted to have him on board.”

Listen! David Riccio, Michael Carayannis and Paul Suttor discuss tenuous coaching positions, the next immortal and if Cronulla can revive their title defence. Plus a full Round 23 preview.

Hill steps into the role at a turbulent time for the Bulldogs with pressure on coach Des Hasler following a disasterous season on the field.

“I’m extremely honoured to have been offered the role with the Bulldogs,” Hill said.

“They are a club with tremendous history and pride and I look forward to being able to work with not only a great organisation, but as passionate a supporter base as you would find anywhere in sport.”

Hill was also a leading candidate to join Manly. He will start at the Bulldogs once his commitments with the Rugby League World Cup end in December. Castle will finish at the end of the season.
