Monday Bunker: The Canterbury Bulldogs are in crisis

THE Bulldogs are in crisis, and high-profile recruit Aaron Woods could be the man to pay the price.

Salary cap issues will force the club to part ways with a number of big name players, with the Morris twins expected to be two of the major casualties.

Despite having not even played half a season at Belmore, Woods is reportedly being shopped around by the club for next year.

Speaking on Monday Bunker, Daily Telegraph columnist Phil Rothfield said he thinks Woods will be at a new club in 2018, with the Newcastle Knights a potential buyer.

”I doubt he will be at the Bulldogs next year,” Rothfield said.

“It depends what the Dogs are prepared to contribute to a contract elsewhere.

“Clubs like the Knights who have got a big checkbook and obviously need some more middle forward power (are an option).

“Good front rowers are hard to find. He’s missed out on the Origin team, he’s going OK, he’s experienced. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of interest.”

Panellist Fatimah Kdouh believes the club owe it to stick by Woods, but thinks coach Dean Pay could be the major factor in his potential departure.

“Dean Pay will decide whether or not he thinks Aaron Woods is worth keeping there,” Kdouh said.

“If they’re shopping him around it means Dean Pay doesn’t want him as a part of his roster.”
