Josh Reynolds stars as Canterbury down South Sydney 24-9 on Good Friday

IF Canterbury’s Josh Reynolds is the most enthusiastic player in the NRL, George Burgess is fast becoming the grubbiest after his latest brain-snap yesterday.

Burgess lashes out again

IF Canterbury’s Josh Reynolds is the most enthusiastic player in the NRL, George Burgess is fast becoming the grubbiest.

South Sydney’s Good Friday turned into Bad Friday as they were dusted up 24-9 by the Reynolds-led Bulldogs, then had Burgess lash out with an ugly forearm on Aiden Tolman just before full-time.

Having already spent a fortnight on the sidelines for striking earlier this season, the young powerhouse prop could face another extended stint on the sidelines.

Canterbury skipper James Graham was overheard screaming ‘’it’s his elbow again’’ as he charged into a melee.

Older brother and Souths skipper Sam Burgess said afterwards: “It didn’t look like he connected at all. But what happened a few weeks ago, people will jump on the back of it, and if you have a real close look at it, there’s not much in it.’’

Coach Michael Maguire added: “We got the penalty, someone was around his neck and he was trying to get out of it, that’s what it looked the way it did.’’

Sam could also be in trouble for a shoulder charge on Greg Eastwood inside ten minutes.

George’s brain snap came when the match was already over and Reynolds had reminded Canterbury officials why he deserved a new deal - and a good one.

The five-eighth produced a wonderful try-scoring tackle on Adam Reynolds - which turned the momentum of the game midway through the second half - scored an outstanding individual try, set up another, and forever threatened Souths down the right edge.

There were even chants by a few of the Dogs players in the sheds afterwards to give the proud junior a new contract.

“I think I got a chant from a couple of the boys in there saying, ‘sign him up’, and I’m happy with that,’’ Reynolds said.

“I’ve said it numerous times what I want to do, and it’s easy for people to get that. Hopefully it can get done soon.

“I haven’t come out in the paper and said I want this or want that. It’s all behind closed doors.’’

When coach Des Hasler was grilled about Reynolds, he said it would be easier if the club knew exactly what the salary cap would be in 2018.

Hasler is a big fan of Kieran Foran who has been linked to a move to Belmore - but Reynolds is the heart and soul of Belmore.

“We’re in negotiations with the young man, and as I said last week, things are progressing,’’ Hasler said.

“You should go and talk to the NRL and ask them to give us a salary cap. That would make it much easier.

“He’s a big part of what we’re about. His brand is pretty important because that’s how the side plays.’’

Canterbury have now won three on the trot and will have plenty of confidence heading into next Sunday’s ANZ Stadium showdown against Wests Tigers.

Tigers superstar duo James Tedesco and Aaron Woods are in talks about a move to Canterbury.

Josh Jackson crossed for a key try in the second half.

If they miss out on Tedesco, Canterbury have a ready-made No. 1 in Brett Morris, who was another standout with Reynolds.

Souths led 9-8 at the break thanks to a Reynolds field goal, but Canterbury bombed their share of chances.

Just as the Bunnies looked to be gaining the upper hand, Reynolds tackled his namesake _ with the help of the Morris twins - and quickly put on a score.
