Canterbury Bulldogs chief executive Andrew Hill parts ways with club

The departure of Canterbury’s chief executive has come as a huge shock after the huge gains the Bulldogs have made in recent months.

The bloodshed at Belmore has continued with club boss Andrew Hill the latest high profile shock casualty to leave the club in recent months.

Hill joins the likes of former coach Dean Pay, chair Lynne Anderson, head of football Steve Price plus other members of the club’s executive team to exit the club in an unprecedented re-build on and off the field.

The news of Hill’s departure came as the biggest shock with the club now beginning the process for a new boss and hope to have one in place by the time the season starts.

It allows new chairman John Khoury, who swept to power to oust Anderson last October, to spearhead a fresh direction for the club.

Khoury said Hill had strengthened “all areas of the club”.

“Andrew Hill has made a significant contribution to the Bulldogs over the past three years,” Khoury said.

“We are appreciative of his professionalism in signalling this early enough for us to find a replacement in time for the season”.

It is understood the Bulldogs will now search for a boss with a community and commercial focus.

The club’s chief financial officer John White will be interim chief executive.

The Bulldogs are also in the midst of finalising a sleeve sponsor.

Things are finally starting look up at Belmore despite a bleak few seasons.

Hill found his tenure marred by constant political infighting having been appointed by former chair Ray Dib before Anderson came to power.

Hill said it was the right time to explore a different opportunity.

“I have enjoyed my time at the Bulldogs and after three years of service in the role the time is now right to look at my next challenge. I wish the club and team every success for the future.”

They were also hamstrung having inherited a raft of poor back-ended deals which has seen the club struggle to attract quality players in recent years and have languished towards the bottom of the premiership ladder.

However the tide has slowly turned at Canterbury with the club appointing coach Trent Barrett.

They have been among the most active in the player market with the signings of Kyle Flanagan, Nick Cotric, Jack Hetherington and in recent days Corey Allan.

They also secured boom Penrith half Matt Burton and representative star Josh Addo-Carr for 2022.

Hill was appointed in 2017 after a long stint at the NRL where he spent time as chief executive of the 2017 world cup.

The Bulldogs and chief executive Andrew Hill have parted ways.

Hill has led the re-build of Belmore heading into this year including the appointment of coach Trent Barrett.

The move comes as a shock given the high profile recruits the Bulldogs have signed this year including Kyle Flanagan, Nick Cotric, Jack Hetherington and in recent days Corey Allan.

Hill was appointed in 2017 after a long stint at the NRL. He took on a Bulldogs club engulfed by constant boardroom battles and an out of shape salary cap.
