Jesse Ramien will have to prove he has “Bulldogs DNA’’ should he come knocking next year.

Bulldogs CEO Andrew Hill has revealed every potential Canterbury player, including the unwanted Knight, will have to pass a character assessment conducted by a five-member recruitment committee.

With the club having already made discrete inquires into his character, Ramien will be in contention to fill one of three spots left on the Bulldogs roster for next year, should he prove himself to be blue and white.

“We have a clear recruitment strategy and plan,’’ Hill said.

“We are working quietly and diligently as a tight group to first work out the type of person we want at the club. We now have a committee who make those decisions. It is not one person, it is a group.

“The first part is working out who fits our culture and how do we know they fit our culture.

“We sit down and meet the player before we even consider money and making an offer.

“We need to know they are the right person for us. They need to buy into our values.’’

Consisting of Hill, Dean Pay, Chris Anderson, Mark Hughes and Dave Hamilton, the recruitment committee are in the market for three players for next year.

Ramien and fellow Knight Herman Ese’ese are both potential targets, while the Bulldogs have also be linked to Manly’s Apisai Koroisau.

“We have three spots,’’ Hill said.

“The non-negotiable is that we want the right type of person. We are looking for improvement every year.

“We are a young squad, but they are going to be far better for this year and we need to see it again next year.

“We are looking to attract one or two players in key positions and add them to a much-improved squad of this year. We are looking forward to what next year brings.”
