THE battle for the Bulldogs board has taken a bitter twist with chairman Ray Dib denying he has hired a PR agency to investigate the rival Anderson-led ticket to “build a dirt file”.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained a letter from the Anderson camp, claiming Dib has sought external assistance in defeating the members of the Bulldogs’ 2018 Reform Ticket.

Dib last night strenuously denied the allegations.

“I’m very disappointed to hear that and it’s totally untrue,’’ Dib told The Daily Telegraph.

The Bulldogs’ 2018 Reform Ticket, which includes Lynne Anderson, John Ballesty, Steve Price, Chris Anderson, Paul Dunn, John Khoury and Nick Dimas, have also called for respect to be shown to the 19 candidates running for the club’s board.

Allegations of a potential smear campaign follows reports Chris Anderson publicly snubbed a handshake attempt from Dib in front of members at a public forum at Belmore Sportsground before Christmas.

The Canterbury board elections will be held on February 11.

“We have been informed by several credible and respected sources that a PR agency has been hired to build a dirt file on members of the Bulldogs 2018 Reform ticket contesting the upcoming elections” the letter claimed.

“While incredibly disappointed, we are not surprised. Since we outlined our plans to run an alternative ticket for Bulldogs members at the upcoming Football Club elections, we have been warned by friends, colleagues and members to reconsider.”

The Bulldogs 2018 Reform Ticket have vowed to fight on.

They believe the Canterbury club and its members and fans deserve better than they are receiving from the current board.

The letter also urged the Dib-led board to “think twice” before dragging the club into accusations and innuendo.

“It is easy for all to go down the path of dirt digging but this is not what the Bulldogs players, members or fans need at this time of crisis,” the letter continued.

“We believe this behaviour would be an absolute insult to fans and members of our club, which prides itself on being united and supportive of our own.

“Our club has fallen from its position as a respected and envied club, both on and off the field, and it is now time for members to have their say as to who, and what plans, are best to make our club great again.

“We would be extremely disappointed if Bulldogs people sought to go to these lengths to maintain a board position. We again urge all nominees to put their plans on the table as we have done in a fair, transparent and honest fashion. That is what our members and fans deserve.”
