Dally M Awards 2018: Brisbane Broncos’ Jamayne Isaako named rookie of the year
VIRTUALLY unknown at the start of the season, an insane collection of highlight reel moments saw Broncos winger Jamayne Isaako pick up Rookie and Try of the Year.

Don't miss out on the headlines from Broncos. Followed categories will be added to My News.
HE STARTED the year with little more than a key to the Broncos gear room.
No guarantees, no promises … hell, Jamayne Isaako wasn’t even the club’s first-choice goalkicker.
Still, on all his days off this anonymous, young winger would head into the club’s Red Hill training facility after breakfast — then for almost two hours kick Steedens at the sticks.
And for that, he’s now the 2018 Dally M Rookie of the Year.
Well, that and his unbelievable skill.

For if you think Isaako topping the NRL with 239 points in his debut season is something, what about the way he earned so many of them?
Virtually unknown in March, the 22-year-old now looms as the future of fullback play thanks to an incredible collection of tries, pressure goals and undeniable highlight reel moments.
And still, it gets better.
Understanding that more than simply starring for Brisbane, this newbie won them games. With his boot, with his skills, all of it.
So good, New Zealand even gave him a Test debut in June.
Apart from being the first player to land both the leading pointscorer and Dally M Rookie gong in the same year, Isaako also picked up an award for the NRL Try of the Year.
And all of it starting with that key to a shed.

TRY OF THE YEAR
JAMAYNE ISAAKO (BRONCOS)
V ROOSTERS ROUND 11
YOU could say Jamayne Isaako will never score another try like it.
But given the kid is a rookie ... well, who knows?
Regardless, how about we rewind to that Round 11 match where Brisbane are up against the Roosters with three minutes to play. Ball in hand, scores locked 22-all.
And so the Steeden is fired back to rookie Jamayne Isaako who, on the last and about 35m out, shapes for the field goal.
But then, he runs. Then, shapes again. Then runs again.
Chaos.
Still going, the Broncos young gun now dummies, straightens, a goose step — or something similar — through two defenders, then hammers, one more to beat, bang, big right-foot step .... try.
