Broncos star Darius Boyd has been door-knocked by Queensland police as authorities conduct COVID home checks on Brisbane and Gold Coast Titans players.

News Corp can reveal police officers are visiting the homes of Broncos and Titans players to ensure they are not breaching the Queensland government’s strict COVID self-isolation protocols.

The Broncos and Titans’ seasons officially ended last Friday but that has not stopped Queensland police hitting the streets to perform COVID checks on Queensland’s leading NRL stars.

It is understood Boyd is one of several Broncos players who have been door-knocked by officers to ensure they are adhering to the government’s 14-day self-isolation guidelines.

Six Titans players have also received impromptu visits from authorities.

Both clubs and all individuals involved, including retiring Broncos veteran Boyd, were found to be COVID compliant.

Under COVID guidelines, Broncos and Titans players remain in strict lockdown in their homes because both clubs travelled to Sydney a fortnight ago for games against Parramatta and Manly respectively.

Broncos players will be cleared from the NRL’s COVID bubble this Saturday morning, while the Titans will enjoy freedom the following day.

The government’s COVID clearance will allow Broncos players to gather for the end-of-season presentation at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Wednesday week.

The Broncos were embroiled in a COVID scandal six weeks ago, when the club was fined $140,000 by the NRL after a group of Brisbane players were caught boozing at a northside pub.

Broncos chairman Karl Morris confirmed Brisbane players remained in COVID lockdown and said there would be no Mad Monday in light of the club’s wooden-spoon finish.

“The guys are still in isolation which is tough,” he said.

“The players can’t leave the house until (Saturday), they played Parramatta two weeks ago and came back from Sydney.

“Our season is over but under the COVID guidelines they are still stuck at home.

“It’s pretty strict but the players are doing everything possible to observe the rules.

“You would have thought after our last game the players would have been released, but these are the COVID rules and we’ll follow them to the letter.

“There won’t be a Mad Monday and our presentation is next week, so that will probably be our first get together in a while.”
