A determined Brodie Croft says he’s ready to tackle Brisbane’s lofty expectations of the coveted No.7 jersey and make his mark as the Broncos next halfback.

Fresh from his first official training session at Red Hill, the former Storm playmaker talked down comparisons to past Broncos but left no doubt of his own aspirations to steer coach Anthony Seibold’s side in 2020.

“It’s a prestigious jersey in a prestigious club and a massive opportunity for me to be a part of,” Croft said.

“I’m hugely honoured to be even spoken about as a possibility to play in that position up here at Brisbane (where) so many great players played in that position.

“We watched a little film this morning before we trained and a few of the greats spoke in that and I actually got goosebumps watching that.

“It gave me something to strive towards and honour this club and do them proud.”

While retaining the likes of boom young forwards David Fifita and Payne Haas were Brisbane’s off-season priorities, Croft’s signature was highly sought after by Seibold.

With the Junior Kangaroo now locked in until the end of 2022, Seibold has the pieces to rebuild his backline and Croft is ready to play his part.

“Seibs is a really good coach, I was fortunate to be in his representative teams as an 18-year-old so I got a little glimpse of him then and from that day onward I knew that he knows what he was on about,” Croft said.

“He’s a real good manager with players as well and the few meetings that I’ve had since have been really positive.”

The 22-year-old described walking out for his first Broncos training session as “surreal” and while Croft owes his career to Craig Bellamy’s Storm, the 2018 NRL grand finalist is determined to find further success in his home state.

“Melbourne’s been unbelievable for me and my development both as a footballer and a person.

“They’ve got me to where I am today but now looking forward I’m extremely excited about 2020 and the calibre of players in this squad and where we’re heading.

“The forward pack speaks for itself and I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to lead them around – they did a lot of really good things this last year it’s only going up from here.”
