Brisbane unveil their home jersey for 2019 as the club looks to end their premiership drought

BRISBANE have unveiled their 2019 home jersey as the club looks to rise above the turmoil and end the longest premiership drought in Broncos history.

JOE Ofahengaue is tired of watching Brisbane’s seasons unfold in the same way each year, and says the Broncos must stop letting their loyal fans down.

The Broncos unveiled their jersey for next season on Wednesday night. Encompassing all the classic features of the past, including the maroon and yellow colours and the white stripes, the jumper is a fresh, new look for the club.

However, while the jersey draws on looks of previous seasons, Ofahengaue says it is time the current squad broke from recent past performances.

Since the powerful forward debuted in 2015, the Broncos have made the finals each year before failing to deliver a seventh premiership.

Brisbane’s most recent finals exit came in week one, when they were thrashed 48-18 by the Dragons.

Ofahengaue is still hurting and said it was not an experience he wants to repeat next year.

“How many lessons are we going to learn?,” he said ahead of the Broncos players’ return on Thursday for pre-season training.

“We always get to the semis and get knocked out. We can’t let this keep being the same story for us.

“We know we’re letting a lot of people down, a lot of fans down and especially a lot of old Broncos players.”

The entire Brisbane organisation wants 2019 to be different, especially given the momentum they had heading into last season’s finals series.

A host of promising young players were blooded in 2018, including David Fifita, Kotoni Staggs and Payne Haas. The squad will also welcome back injured duo Matt Gillett and Jack Bird.

Ofahengaue said the club hade no excuses.

“It comes back down to how much we really want it as a team,” he said.

“I know the want’s there. We don’t have any more excuses. We have to just go out there and do it.”
