Brisbane Broncos: Anthony Seibold takes responsibility for ‘unacceptable’ Tigers loss

In Brisbane’s last 11 games, including last year’s finals series, the Broncos have lost 58-0 to Parramatta, 59-0 to the Roosters and 48-0 to the Tigers — all on Anthony Seibold’s watch. The latest defeat has left the head coach shattered.

Shattered Broncos coach Anthony Seibold said the buck stops with him after admitting he must take full responsibility for Brisbane’s 48-0 horror show against the Wests Tigers.

The pressure on Seibold has reached boiling point with the Broncos coach in danger of being sacked if he cannot haul Brisbane out of 14th place and somehow orchestrate a finals resurgence.

The Broncos face mighty Melbourne this Friday night and Seibold blasted Brisbane’s latest capitulation against a Tigers side which ran riot in a nine-tries-to-nil cakewalk.

“I don’t know how I can defend that performance, I take responsibility for it,” Seibold lamented.

“I’m not feeling that great to be honest. We put a lot of time into preparing the team and those performances are totally unacceptable. I will get back to Brisbane and make some considered decisions.

“There’s nothing you can say. I am out of words. It’s about actions.

“I’m sick of talking about it.”

A fortnight ago, Seibold said he would sack himself if he didn’t believe he was the man to rebuild the Broncos. Asked if he would review his future at the club, Seibold refused to discuss whether his head is on the chopping block.

“It’s pretty raw after a performance like that,” he said. “I have nothing else to say about that (his future).”

In another crushing blow for the Broncos, Seibold confirmed makeshift back-rower Corey Oates had suffered a season-ending injury.

“It appears he has a compound fracture of his femur,” he said. “It’s a very serious injury.”

While taking ownership, Seibold blasted the effort of his players.

Paul Kent: Ben Ikin is the best choice for next Brisbane Broncos CEO

“The lack of resilience, we lacked toughness,” he said.

“It’s nowhere near good enough. We are down on troops but there was no excuse for a performance like that.

“I’ve tried to stick solid and show belief, but we can’t keep tossing up performances like that.”
