Anthony Seibold says entire Broncos club needs a review

An embarrassed Anthony Seibold has taken aim at his players and the club as a whole after the Broncos lost by their greatest ever margin in the qualifying final. See what the coach had to say here.

Shattered Broncos coach Anthony Seibold has pledged to undertake a full review of the club in the wake of Brisbane’s humiliating 58-0 season-ending finals loss to Parramatta.

Seibold now has the ignominy of the worst loss in Brisbane’s 31-year history on his resume and the NRL’s reigning coach-of-the year claimed major responsibility for the 11-tries-to-nil massacre at Bankwest Stadium.

The shocking defeat extended the worst premiership drought in Broncos history to 13 years and Seibold will come under pressure next season to rebuild Brisbane as a title force in his second year at the helm.

While 17 Broncos players should take a large portion of the blame for a performance that represents a stain on Brisbane’s proud history, Seibold vowed to put the entire club under the microscope – himself included.

“We’ve got to have a good hard look at things from top to bottom,” Seibold fired.

“I’m just really disappointed and embarrassed.

“I can’t toss up any excuses for that.

“It’s my job and responsibility to fix this.

“Everything’s on the table. I need to try and fix this. It’s a big game and we folded.

“It’s not good enough.”

It has been a turbulent debut season at Red Hill for Seibold. The former Souths mentor had a delayed start at Red Hill due to the coach-swap fiasco with Wayne Bennett and the Broncos were left chasing their tail all season after slumping to a 2-6 record from eight rounds.

Seibold did a commendable job steering the Broncos to the finals given the early-season adversity, but yesterday’s debacle at Parramatta will leave a bitter taste with Brisbane bosses for the summer.

If Seibold is promising a review, he should start by gutting his scrumbase.

Brisbane’s playmaking spine was torn apart by the Eels as Parramatta trio Mitchell Moses, Dylan Brown and Clint Gutherson gave a chilling insight into true cohesion in a football team.

The Broncos finished the season with a losing record with 11 wins, 13 losses and a draw and Seibold lamented Brisbane’s attitude in defence.

“They let each other down, they let the club down,” Seibold fired.

“It was men against boys out there today. I lost count how many points they scored on fifth tackle.

“There’s a lot of good young men in our club. But we want winners. It’s my responsibility to fix that. It’s going to be a long off-season and a long pre-season.

“We need to have a good look (at our halves). We’re not here to make up the numbers and finish eighth every year.

“I’m embarrassed and I’m sure the players will be embarrassed.

“We’re a million miles off the top teams. It’s disappointing.”
