Each week I will add a player to our Watch List which is available in the My Team Tracker on the home page of SuperCoach NRL — presented by hipages.

We are now only three weeks away from the first bye round and I will continue to look at players who are viable options for our teams in the first bye.

SuperCoach Guns or those sitting on top of the averages in each position won’t be covered here as we aim to find a player that can deliver us a score and hopefully be moved on for a profit later on.

This week’s player is Taree born Mitchell Barnett from the Newcastle Knights.

The Knights have been one of the surprise packets of the first ten weeks of the competition and currently sit with a five win and five loss record for tenth spot on the NRL ladder.

Kalyn Ponga (69PPG) and Lachlan Fitzgibbon (64PPG) are leading the way SuperCoach wise for the Knights, but I thought I would look at Mitchell Barnett, who sits just under the $400,000 dollar mark this week.

Barnett is a Wingham Tigers junior who played 41 games of NYC for the Canberra Raiders between 2013-2014.

Barnett started off the 2015 season playing a starring role for Canberra’s NSW cup team Mount Pritchard Mounties. He was called upon to make his NRL debut for Canberra in a round 22 loss to the West Tigers 20-18. Playing only two games in the top grade for the Raiders in 2015, Barnett managed SuperCoach scores of 51 points in 53 minutes and 20 points in 33 minutes. Barnett would go on to be named 2015 NSW cup Player of the Year and was selected at 2RF in the NSW cup team of the year.

In June of 2016, Barnett signed with the Knights effective immediately and played 9 games making his club debut in a round 14 loss against the Warriors 50-14.

Monday Bunker round 10

Barnett finished the season with a SuperCoach total score of 607 points at a very impressive average of 67PPG, that’s great going for a player with only 11 games of experience with a top score for the season of 99 points and a season average game time of 75MPG with a PPM of 0.90

Barnett played in 22 games for Newcastle during the 2017 season and played in his first winning NRL game at his 13th attempt in round two when the Knights defeated the Gold Coast Titans 34-26.

Barnett went on to finish with a SuperCoach total of 1246 points at an average of 57PPG, in 56 MPG at a PPM of 1.02.

Mitchell had a season top score of 116 points against the New Zealand Warriors in round 22 in 49 minutes of game time. Barnett has been signed by the Knights until the end of the 2020 season.

This season so far Barnett has played in 10 games for Newcastle where he has scored a total of 363 SuperCoach points, with 89% of those points coming in base stats. Currently he sits with an average of 40PPG and he is coming off a 68 point score against Penrith from Friday night.

With games against the Titans and Sharks leading up to Parramatta in round 13, and with a current break even of 17, I will be adding Mitchell Barnett to my Watch List, and could possibly grab him next week after hopefully making a Rookie/Gun double trade this week.
