SuperCoach NRL round 16 wrap: Titans backs smash century mark, new top halfback option emerges

The Gold Coast Titans reaped the benefits of a Warriors thrashing, while the Origin round didn’t slow down the centuries across the board. Here are the Winners and Losers from round 16.

An Origin impacted round didn’t dampen the spirits of many SuperCoaches, who recovered from last week’s round of chaos with some strong scores.

David Fifita made his return to the Titans in a rout of the Warriors in a highlight of the weekend, but there were also some devastating lows.

Super Saturday saw the Warriors, Bulldogs and Sea Eagles combine for just 14 points in their three losses, hampering the efforts of many who were hoping for high-scoring encounters.

There were 12 players who were able to reach the magical century mark, not bad for a weekend with just five fixtures.

Here’s how round 16 panned out:

ROUND 16 SUPERCOACH WINNERS

*Jahrome Hughes (90) – While he struggled early in the first half, he came home on fire and delivered for his owners.

* Kenny Bromwich (76) – This really helps nobody given the Dolphins star forward is in just 1% of teams, but he was able to produce his biggest score of the season.

* Tyran Wishart (81) – A bit of a POD at just 13.8% ownership, Wishart has proven a solid replacement for Cameron Munster, and a handy pick-up for SuperCoaches

* Jayden Campbell (170) – Incredible performance by the Titans five-eighth with a try and a perfect 11 conversions. Campbell was electric as the Gold Coast banked its biggest ever victory.

* Keano Kini (149) – Kini simply needs to have a place in the Titans’ NRL side every week. The diminutive fullback is as slippery as they get and he has the speed to turn broken tackles into tries.

* Alofiana Khan-Pereira (116) – The Gold Coast winger scored four tries in a great showing. He now leads the competition scoring ranks, an incredible achievement.

* Terrell May (110) – A third century for the year and continues to be a leading forward in SuperCoach. Coaches will be hoping he hits consistent form in the final part of the year.

* Sam Walker (109) – He was involved in everything and had multiple try assists. Walker has averaged 80 points in his last three games before his latest big score.

* Jeral Skelton (92) – Skelton was impressive in just his fourth NRL game, scoring a try and setting up another. Will he be able to hold his spot in the weeks to come?

* Keaon Koloamatangi (97) – Has been a revelation since moving to lock forward and has been scoring amazing. That could change in round 18 with Cameron Murray to return.

* Damien Cook (111) – First century of the year and his fourth score out of his last five games of 80 or more. If he continues this form he is a lock for teams.

* Jye Gray (76) – Scored his first NRL try. Will be interesting to see his role in the side once Latrell Mitchell returns from Origin duties.

* Api Koroisau (147) - Who else but Api. He was in everything for the Tigers, showing his class across the park as he moved back to his favoured hooking role. Huge game.

* Lachlan Galvin (101) - Put his contract talk behind him with a starring performance that included his first two NRL tries. Looked dangerous with every touch.

* Kaeo Weekes (101) - A Raider who stood tall with the advantage of an extra man, he scored a great try from his own half that saw his score race past the century mark.

ROUND 16 SUPERCOACH LOSERS

* Sua Faalogo (33) – Craig Bellamy dealt SuperCoaches a devastating blow after benching the popular star an hour before kick-off, who didn’t get onto the field until late in the second half.

* Jack Bostock (3) – A sad night for the Dolphins star, forced off the field just minutes into the game after an ugly head knock in a tackle gone wrong on William Warbrick.

* Joe Chan (12) – The cheapie has become an auto-emergency nightmare, scoring just 12 points tonight, on the back of his 13 points last week.

* Shaun Johnson (9) – Johnson hasn’t looked himself since returning from injury. He barely made a ripple as the New Zealand attack spluttered with errors and poor decisions.

* Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (15) – You might not have noticed, but Tuivasa-Sheck made his return from a hamstring injury. Uncharacteristically quiet performance and a second-half sin bin.

* Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (36) – The Gold Coast did a great job containing the Warriors fullback. Despite making 19 runs he only broke two tackles and four missed tackles cost him.

* Junior Pauga (19) – Only 235 SuperCoaches have him and it might be down to zero this week. Pauga is expected to be on the sidelines for a few weeks after being sent off.

* Matt Burton (16) – Struggled to make an impact after being overlooked for State of Origin and being shifted into the centres. That was well below his average.

* Victor Radley (29) - There were some solid scores across the park from the Roosters forwards, but the English international couldn’t add his name to them.

* Peter Mamouzelos (12) – The potential South Sydney hooker of the future didn’t make much of an impact in the minutes he got. His score of 12 is well below his average of 29.

* Jack Wighton (23) – Scored well below his average, with 23. The almost 6000 players will be disappointed the gamble did not pay off. Needs to lift in two weeks time.

* Luke Brooks (28) – Had the keys to the team in the absence of Daly Cherry-Evans but came up with a duck egg. Didn’t look likely at all.

* Sebastian Kris (26) - Just isn’t having the same impact of late. A great tackle buster but was rarely sighted out on an edge.

* Kit Laulilii (21) - Given 22 minutes off the bench and his production per minute was solid, but he just didn’t see enough time on the field.

* Emre Guler (27) - Has started plenty of games this year but was strangely left on the bench, playing just 29 minutes as a replacement for Joe Tapine.
