Round 21
BULLDOGS VS. BRONCOS — THURSDAY 7:50PM AT ANZ STADIUM
Rhyse Martin 2RF (Bulldogs) — ‘GOD 2.0’ (as I have dubbed him in recent weeks) has been bloody exceptional, averaging 77.11PPG this season in his nine matches thus far. Most recently, Martin scored 79 points with serious ease against the Tigers made up of 16 points in goals, 42 tackles, 4 points in tackle busts and 21 points in hit ups — all of which you could term ‘base’ stats for the great man. So, this weekend against the Broncos at ANZ Stadium I think he gets that score at the very least. SuperCoach stats projects 85 points for what it’s worth.
Other options: Jamayne Isaako, Anthony Milford, Will Hopoate, Josh Jackson
KNIGHTS VS. TIGERS — FRIDAY 6:00PM AT MCDONALD JONES STADIUM
Kalyn Ponga FLB (Knights) — So, last weekend was the superstar full-back’s return from a delicate hammy injury and not only did he not look off the pace, he looked incredible as he has done ALL season. So, this weekend against the Tigers on a Friday night in Newcastle, Ponga could go berserk. I am all for picking Lachlan Fitzgibbon here too … or Esan Marsters for that matter. Who’d have thought we’d have so many good options in a Knights vs. Tigers match?
Other options: Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Aidan Guerra, Esan Marsters, Robbie Farah
RABBITOHS VS. STORM — FRIDAY 7:55PM AT ANZ STADIUM
Sam Burgess FRF | 2RF (Rabbitohs) — What a game we are in for here! Top of the table clash, the Storm in vintage form heading into the finals and the Rabbitohs possessing SO many superstar weapons. Big game, I look to the big players and one of the best is Sam Burgess. SuperCoach Stats projects the Englishman to score 70 points, but as VK pointed out last week he is on a ‘nudie run’ with no tries to this point this season. A five-round average of 69.6PPG is an indication the big one has been simmering away … Oh, and every man and his dog will be picking Damien Cook.
Other options: Damien Cook, Angus Crichton, Cameron Smith, Cameron Munster
DRAGONS VS. WARRIORS — SATURDAY 3:00PM AT WIN STADIUM
Gareth Widdop 5/8 (Dragons) — I’m calling bounce-back in this one for the England no. 6 after what was a disappointing 25-point outing last week. At home at WIN Stadium in a day game against a Warriors outfit whom the Titans ran all over for 36 points last week. Quite simply, he’s too good to stay down for too long.
Other options: Tim Lafai, Paul Vaughan, Shaun Johnson, David Fusitua
EELS VS. TITANS — SATURDAY 5:30PM AT ANZ STADIUM
Jarryd Hayne CTW | FLB (Eels) — The form of the Hayne Plane in recent weeks has been outstanding with scores of 76, 103, 41 and 49 with a marked improvement in work rate but also the ability to find the try line. Hayne’s career numbers against his (other) former club are incredible. 6 matches played for an average of 78.7PPG with a high score of 117 points. Get on!
Other options: Bevan French, Mitchell Moses, Michael Gordon, Ryan James
ROOSTERS VS. COWBOYS — SATURDAY 7:35PM AT ALLIANZ STADIUM
Latrell Mitchell CTW (Roosters) — Can he do it three weeks in a row? I think he can. Both he and Esan Marsters are clearly the best two young centres in the game right now and Latrell has kicked to a new gear off the back of a strong debut Origin series with NSW. Three tries last weekend and 113 points against the Dragons tells me that he could do ANYTHING against a weakened Cowboys outfit at Allianz. SuperCoach Stats projects him to score 84 points.
Other options: Boyd Cordner, James Tedesco, Blake Ferguson, Johnathan Thurston
SHARKS VS. SEA EAGLES — SUNDAY 2:00PM AT SOUTHERN CROSS GROUP STADIUM
Valentine Holmes CTW (Sharks) — Another player in stellar form is Val Holmes, who is on a ridiculous run of form — proving all the doubters wrong last week with a double at Suncorp against the Broncos. This week against the Sea Eagles all the Sharks’ attacking weapons will have room to move and high scoring upside. Get on Holmes, or even Tom Turbo to go large.
Other options: Tom Trbojevic, Jake Trbojevic, Andrew Fifita, Chad Townsend
PANTHERS VS. RAIDERS — SUNDAY 4:10PM AT PANTHERS STADIUM
Tyrone Peachey CTW | 2RF (Panthers) — If it’s upside you want, and players who just LOVE to hang on to the ball to get those points then the Peach is your man. Most will go hunting for Nathan Cleary after a big game last weekend, but I think Peachey at fullback is ready to explode. Scores of 68 and 59 since moving to fullback tells me he is feeling settled and things can only get better from here, right?
Other options: Josh Mansour, Nathan Cleary, Jordan Rapana, Elliot Whitehead
Good luck! Will this be the week where someone takes home a huge wad of cash? Let’s hope so.
