Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow among biggest losers from SuperCoach NRL 2025 position reveals

SuperCoach star Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has copped a huge hit – and that’s just the start of the bad news. See full winners and losers from 2025 position reveals.

Yes, it’s months until the NRL season starts, but SuperCoach never sleeps.

Below we unveil the winners, losers and watch-this-space players from the 2025 positions.

SuperCoach positions are based on many factors including the positions played last year and positions expected to be played in 2025 (full predicted round one teams here).

Also, where possible, players likely to play multiple roles have been handed just one position to start given further positions can be added later in the season (examples include Ben Hunt and Daniel Atkinson).

Here’s a quick recap of the rules.

LOSERS

Reuben Garrick CTW only (loses FLB)

Ended last season as the third most popular player and dual positioning was a handy factor. But Garrick loses fullback for 2025 after playing all 24 games last season at centre, with Lehi Hopoate and Tolu Koula preferred as Manly’s back-up fullback to Tom Trbojevic.

Matt Burton 5/8 only (loses HFB)

Coming off his best SuperCoach season yet, scoring the third most points of any halfback or five-eighth. But he played all 23 games in the No. 6 last season and therefore loses halfback positioning.

Reuben Cotter 2RF only (loses FRF)

Owned by a massive 54,000 SuperCoaches at one stage last season, Cotter will be less valuable in 2025 after losing front-row status. He played just two games there last season.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow FLB only (loses CTW)

While he’s played a heap of centre for the Kangaroos and Maroons, The Hammer played all but two games at fullback for the Dolphins last season.

Nick Meaney CTW only (loses FLB)

The emergence of Sua Fa’alogo and re-emergence of Ryan Papenhuyzen meant Meaney played no fullback last year, playing all 24 games at centre.

Kayal Iro CTW only (loses FLB)

The cheapie of the year played all games at centre and therefore loses fullback status.

Euan Aitken 2RF only (loses CTW)

Played all 17 games last year as a second rower and therefore loses CTW status. Where he plays at new club the Rabbitohs is up in the air but we will add a new position when/if he changes roles.

WINNERS

Blaize Talagi CTW-5/8 (loses FLB, gains 5/8)

Tough call as Talagi played five positions last year (centre, five-eighth, fullback, wing and bench). But with Dylan Edwards locked into the fullback spot, we’ve ruled that out as an option for 2025 even though he played three games there last season. He appears most likely to play five-eighth in place of the departed Jarome Luai, or in the outside backs.

Max Plath 2RF/HOK (loses 5/8)

While he played plenty of lower grades at five-eighth, hence last year’s positioning, Plath made a name for himself in the NRL as both a lock (11 games) and hooker (nine games) and therefore wins those positions for SuperCoach.

Dylan Brown HFB-5/8 (retains dual)

While consideration was given to returning Brown to halfback-only with Mitchell Moses fit, the fact is he played eight games at halfback last season and has therefore retained the position.

Cody Walker HFB-5/8 (retains dual)

There are plenty of options in the halves for the Rabbitohs this season. While Lachlan Ilias (Dragons) and Dean Hawkins (Eels) have left, the Bunnies have purchased Super League star Lewis Dodd. Manly recruits Jamie Humphreys and Josh Schuster can also play in the halves, while Jack Wighton played 13 games in the No. 6 last season. While we expect Walker to start at five-eighth this year, we can’t ignore that he also played 10 games at halfback last season and he therefore retains dual.

Ben Hunt has joined the Broncos and is set to play five-eighth - at least to start the season.

Ben Hunt 5/8 only (loses HFB)

The star Brisbane recruit is tipped, at least initially, to fill the five-eighth position of Ezra Mam (who faces suspension for an off-field incident). But at different stages of the season he’s also a chance of playing hooker or halfback if there is an injury to Adam Reynolds. We will add an extra position if/when that eventuates.

Daniel Atkinson 5/8 only (loses FLB, HFB)

A genuine utility, Atkinson played in four positions at the Sharks last year - five-eighth, wing, centre and bench utility. But with Nicho Hynes and Braydon Trindall missing big chunks last year, Atkinson played his most games at five-eighth (13 of 19). He’s also set to start at five-eighth for new club the Dragons, so he’s been added as five-eighth only and we’ll update if/when he plays other positions.
