KFC SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 11

Following the KFC SuperCoach crowd is often a great strategy.

But equally, the masses sometimes get it very wrong and this is one of those weeks.

The crowd is all in on Valynce Te Whare, who is the most purchased player this week after a stunning debut.

This despite the fact he is on the bye and has genuine job security issues.

By far the safer option is Max Feagai, who has been purchased by less than half the amount of SuperCoaches, yet had big job security issues answered in today’s team announcements.

WINNERS

- Max Feagai – Not the best cheapie we’ve seen this year but the cheapie of the week in that he passes a number of the traditional markers. One, he is actually playing this week, while the most popular buy of the week is not (Te Whare). Two, he is playing his third game this week and will therefore see a predicted $60,000 price rise, while the others on the cheapie list won’t rise much or at all. Three, he covers round 13 if he remains in the side. But that’s the big if and herein lies the biggest problem – job security. Zac Lomax is lurking and could take Feagai’s spot at any stage, although he’s been left out of the squad altogether this week so that question has been answered for now at least.

- Billy Smith – There’s a big opportunity for Smith at the Roosters given Joey Manu’s move to five-eighth and injuries to Daniel Tupou (hamstring, round 14) and Paul Momirovski (shoulder, round 22). Billy was a rare winner for the Roosters in their Magic Round humbling, scoring 71 SuperCoach points without a try. But he does have a horror history of injuries so don’t rush in just yet. Strong watch.

LOSERS

- Valynce Te Whare – Yes, the most purchased player this week is on the losers’ list. The two-try debut was no doubt amazing but people are getting carried away here considering Te Whare is on the bye this week. He also has job security issues given he only gained his spot at the Dolphins due to an injury to Brenko Lee (hamstring). The potential is real, but there is no harm in waiting one or even two weeks.

- Jackson Ford – Out for two weeks with a concussion this week and then the bye. Cashing in at a massive $230,000 profit is therefore tempting, but je also offers great round 13 coverage. Your approach will depend in team make-up.

- Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Isaiya Katoa - Peaked cheapies on the bye this week and therefore popular sells. But as per above, they also cover the first bye so do your numbers for round 13 first.

BUY

- Dylan Brown – Non-Origin Eels are at the top of the shopping list right now and Brown is the best of the bunch at the club. Sixth most point of any player this season and most of any five-eighth.

- Reuben Garrick - Tommy Turbo is back and Garrick is back on the wing – those are good things. At bottom price, covering rounds 13, 15 and 16, Garrick is popular for good reason this week. But make sure you can cover his sneakily tough bye in round 14.

- Tohu Harris - Another at a juicy price after injury and misadventure. Harris played 80 minutes last week and churned out a ‘lazy’ 70 points in base. The round 12 bye is a bummer but after that he covers 13, 14, 15 and 17 and the DPP is nice.

- Alex Johnston - ‘AJ’ can be a little rocks and diamonds but he seems to have found a good seam of form of late, is still a reasonable price ($124K cheaper than he started the season) despite increasing $50K over the past three weeks and plays the next five matches straight.

- Jahream Bula - The young Tiger has been exceptional in his three games. Jumped $80K this week but still value if you missed the boat and can fit him in at fullback.

HOLD

- Mitchell Moses - Out with a head knock this week after being very popular last week due to bye coverage. Hold for Round 13 coverage.

- Josh Schuster - You’re not making any money off the trade so just hold and hope he covers 13. He has been named in the squad this week which is a good start.

SELL

-Tyrell Sloan – Sits with a BE of 111 and has therefore peaked after an $187,000 rise.

- William Warbrick, Paul Alamoti, Sunia Turuva - Peaked cheapies who have done their job.
