NRL SuperCoach teams analysis Round 11

WITH just one week remaining till the first bye of the season the week 11 team lists bear both brickbats and boquets for SuperCoaches. FULL TEAMS ANALYSIS HERE

SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell - Round 11

WINNERS

* Dylan Walker — Walker made his belated return to the NRL in round 10 against the Sharks and while he was not great he was pretty good. Busy in attack and solid if unspectacular in defence. You have to go back to 2017 to see how Walker last went when given a good run at his preferred centre position and in 24 games that year he averaged 53 PPG. The Sea Eagles have a great run coming up with the Titans, Panthers, Cowboys and Dragons on the horizon.

* Mawene Hiroti — Named to play his third game for the Rabbitohs (he played an 11 minute cameo for them in 2018) the exciting Hiroti scored 64 points last week with a try and two linebreaks. Could be a short term cash grab and an extra number for the round 12 bye but beware that Hiroti will likely lose his spot when Alex Johnston (expected back Round 13-14) returns.

* Gideon Gela-Moseby — GGM has played eight games in the NRL (four in 2017 and four in 2018) and scored a try in six of those games. The injury to Ben Hampton (biceps) should open the selection door for Gela-Moseby to earn another crack at the NRL.

* Matt Moylan — Moylan (hamstring) has not played since he went down in the 51st minute of round three this season. Apparently close to a return last week, coach John Morris opted to give his fullback an extra week to recover. Regardless of where he is named on Tuesday, Moylan is considered a 50/50 chance to return either at fullback or five-eighth.

* Patrick Herbert — The Warriors youngster had an absolute cracker against the woeful Panthers last week with a try, two linebreaks and a passel of goals all adding up to 96 points. With a negative BE and good job security plenty of coaches are buying Herbert but beware as the Broncos have been staunch against centres of late and the Warriors do not play round 12.

LOSERS

* Jayden Okunbur — News broke late on Tuesday afternoon that the young Bulldog sensation had injured his foot and will miss 4-6 weeks. Head-to-head players could hold Okunbur but for overall players he’s now a sell.

* Ryan Papenhuyzen — The livewire youngster is creating a selection headache for Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy after filling in brilliantly for Jahrome Hughes at fullback. Hughes is expected back this week which will see Papenhuyzen revert to the bench (though a return to the starting side is likely in round 16 when Cameron Munster would be unavailable due to Origin).

* Rhyse Martin — It’s time to cut and run for Martin’s owners, for as good as he is when given TOG, he clearly has lost coach Dean Pay’s favour. Given just 16 minutes off the bench in round 10 against the Titans, and likely to be named on the bench again, Martin now has a BE of 111 and is going to start losing money fast.

* Hudson Young — Joseph Tapine’s return was always going to be a concern and it has come to pass. Young has been named to start and the Raiders could ease Tapine back off the bench — though a late swap between the two is also a distinct possibility. Thankfully for those who grabbed Young 2-3 weeks ago money has been made and more is to come. Josh Papalii is a certainty for Queensland Origin duties and best case scenario for Young Ones is Ryan Sutton moving to FRF, Whitehead to lock and Young gets one more 80 minute game before being moved on with thanks.

* James Maloney — The Panthers’ halfback (suspension) is out this week after accepting a dangerous contact charge from round 10. Penrith’s halves have failed to click in attack of late and it will be interesting to see if Nathan Cleary can make the most of having sole control in attack.

* Braidon Burns — Burns’ recovery from a hamstring injury has gone a little slower than originally expected and he is now unlikely to return until round 13. the Rabbitohs have been on a tear without Burns so there’s no reason to rush him back — but it’s bad news for SuperCoaches who had held him in the hope of playing in the first bye round (round 12).

Carnage has once again riddled NRL SuperCoach sides in Round 11, with a popular cash cow set to miss the all important Round 12 bye. Join Rob Sutherland and Tim Williams for the lowdown.

EELS V PANTHERS

Thursday 23 May, Bankwest Stadium, 7.50pm

Eels: 1. Clinton Gutherson (c) 2. Maika Sivo 3. Josh Hoffman 4. Blake Ferguson 5. George Jennings 6. Will Smith 7. Mitch Moses 8. Junior Paulo 9. Reed Mahoney 10. Tim Mannah (c) 11. Shaun Lane 12. Marata Niukore 13. Manu Ma’u

I nterchange: 14. Peni Terepo 15. Daniel Alvaro 16. Brad Takairangi 17. David Gower

Reserves: 18. Jaeman Salmon 19. Bevan French 20. Kane Evans 21 Oregon Kaufusi

SuperCoach news: Blake Ferguson and Clint Gutherson should be on your radar ahead of the round 12 bye, but neither should be purchased this week. Gutherson looks set for a big game against the Panthers on Thursday night but with a BE of 115 anything other than a monster and he’ll be available cheaper next week. Ferguson has been shifted to the centres and while he has scored well there before the positional switch, Origin selection possibility and a BE of 100 all combine to make him a watch and wait. Manu Ma’u is the most purchased player at the Eels this week and I say beware the trap. The Eels are stacked in the backrow and regular lock Nathan Brown is working his way back from injury which will add to the logjam. Available at CTW as well as 2RF, then Ma’u were assured of 65+ minutes at backrow every week he would be a buy. However, the minutes are far from locked in and this combined with a BE of 79 has me scratching my head as to Ma’u’s popularity.

Panthers: 1. Dylan Edwards 2. Josh Mansour, 3. Dean Whare 4. Waqa Blake 5. Brian To’o 6. Jarome Luai 7. Nathan Cleary 8. James Tamou 9. Sione Katoa 10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Frank Winterstein 13. James Fisher-Harris

Interchange: 14. Liam Martin, 15. Tyrell Fuimaono 16. Tim Grant 17. Moses Leota

Reserves: 18. Mitchell Kenny 19. Hame Sele 20. Kaide Ellis 21. Caleb Aekins

SuperCoach news : Viliame Kikau leads Penrith’s most purchased list and while I’m not yet on board the Big Billy bus, my colleague Tim Williams is a huge fan. Kikau is a real rocks or diamonds prospect as he lacks the base of others at his position and instead relies on picking up attacking stats to be SuperCoach relevant. In his seven games so far this season, Kikau has posted just three ‘keeper’ standard scores averaging 78.67 when he is good and just 40 when he isn’t. Nathan Cleary is the most sold Panthers player and I think that is a mistake. While Cleary was pretty poor last week, the suspension of fellow half James Maloney, means he will be the sole playmaker for Penrith this week. Origin selection for Cleary appeared a certainty at the start of the season but has slipped away as the season has progressed and should he not play for the Blues in game I he will be a key player in round 12.

SEA EAGLES V TITANS

Friday 24 May, Lottoland, 6.00pm

Sea Eagles: 1. Brendan Elliot, 2. Jorge Taufua, 3. Dylan Walker, 4. Brad Parker, 5. Reuben Garrick, 6. Cade Cust, 7. Kane Elgey, 8. Addin Fonua-Blake, 9. Apisai Koroisau, 10. Martin Taupau, 11. Joel Thompson, 12. Curtis Sironen, 13. Jake Trbojevic.

Interchange: 14. Manase Fainu 15. Jack Gosiewski, 16. Corey Waddell, 17. Morgan Boyle

Reserves: 18. Taniela Paseka, 19. Jade Anderson, 20 Haumole Olakauatu21. Lloyd Perrett

SuperCoach news: Dylan Walker is the most purchased player this week, and while the controversial Manly centre is a bargain at his position when compared to what he has averaged previously, I for one would take the extra week to see how he backs up following his first game in a long time. Addin Fonua-Blake is also being snapped up following his 111 point effort against the Sharks but the big man is scoring attacking stats at an unsustainable rate so some regression should be expected — as should another suspension at some point...

Titans: 1. AJ Brimson 2. Anthony Don 3. Jesse Arthurs 4. Brian Kelly 5. Dale Copley 6. Tyrone Roberts 7. Ashley Taylor 8. Jarrod Wallace 9. Mitch Rein 10. Moeaki Fotuaika 11. Kevin Proctor 12. Bryce Cartwright 13. Jai Arrow

Interchange: 14. Tyrone Peachey 15. Shannon Boyd 16. Keegan Hipgrave 17. Jai Whitbread

Reserves: 18. Jack Stockwell 19. Max King 20. Ryley Jacks 21. Will Matthews

SuperCoach news: Not too much of note here with just one genuinely SuperCoach relevant player in Jai Arrow no use to us in round 12 due to Origin selection. Jesse Arthars is an option for those looking for a cheapie POD. Arthars scored 32 points in base last week and if the Titans can somehow find a way to get their right-side attack to click then Arthars has the skill to cash in.

KNIGHTS V ROOSTERS

Friday 24 May, McDonald Jones Stadium, 7.55pm

Knights: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Edrick Lee 3. Hymel Hunt 4. Jesse Ramien 5. Shaun Kenny-Dowall 6. Connor Watson 7. Mitchell Pearce 8. David Klemmer 9. Danny Levi 10. Daniel Saifiti 11. Lachlan Fitzgibbon 12. Mitchell Barnett 13. Tim Glasby

Interchange: 14. Kurt Mann 15. Herman Ese’ese 16. James Gavet 17. Sione Mata’utia

Reserves: 18. Josh King 19. Pasami Saulo 20. Jamie Buhrer 21. Mason Lino

SuperCoach news: Mitchell Pearce (3RA 96.7) and Kalyn Ponga (3RA 99.3) are absolutely killing it right now, but we are all about to see just how good the Knights are over the next month with their schedule reading Roosters, bye, Rabbitohs, Storm. Ponga’s form since moving to fullback has been sublime, and the much-maligned Pearce is not the SuperCoach ‘dud’ some critics make him out to be (he averaged 66 PPG over 12 games in 2016 and 62 PPG in a 21 game season the year after). Ponga is as close to a must own as there is in the game this season, and Pearce may be worth chasing — but not until round 15 at the earliest. Forward leader David Klemmer started the year tremendously but has gone a little cold in the last three weeks. With Origin duties looming Klemmer should be on your watchlist for the run home.

Roosters: 1. James Tedesco, 2. Daniel Tupou, 3. Latrell Mitchell, 4. Joseph Manu, 5. Matt Ikuvalu, 6. Luke Keary, 7. Cooper Cronk, 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, 9. Victor Radley, 10. Sio Siua Taukeiaho, 11. Boyd Cordner 12. Angus Crichton, 13. Isaac Liu

Interchange: 14. Nat Butcher, 15. Zane Tetevano, 16. Sitili Tupouniua 17. Mitchell Aubusson

Reserves: 18. Lindsay Collins, 19. Ryan Hall 20. Josh Curran 21. Brock Lamb

SuperCoach news: Latrell Mitchell has the fifth best 3RA of any player in the game so it may seem counterintuitive to place a ‘Sell’ order on the big Rooster but here me out. Priced at $723,500, with a BE of 136 and Origin duties on the horizon, Mitchell is almost guaranteed to drop a significant chunk of change between now and round 17 so take the money, use it wisely and then pick him back up for the run home. Sio Siua Taukeiaho will be absolutely ripe for the picking ahead of round 14 with his price set to drop between now and then thanks to an injury affected 14 in round 10. He looms as a major POD for the second bye round.

RAIDERS V COWBOYS

Saturday 25 May, GIO Stadium, 3.00pm

Raiders: 1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 2. Bailey Simonsson 3. Jarrod Croker (c) 4. Nick Cotric 5. Michael Oldfield 6. Jack Wighton 7. Sam Williams 8. Josh Papalii 9. Josh Hodgson 10. Dunamis Lui 11. Hudson Young 12. Elliott Whitehead 13. Ryan Sutton

Interchange: 14. Siliva Havili 15. Joseph Tapine 16. Sia Soliola 17. Corey Horsburgh

Reserves: 18. Aidan Sezer 19. Emre Guler 20. Sebastian Kris 21. Royce Hunt

SuperCoach news: Joseph Tapine’s return should see an end to popular cheapie Hudson Young’s 80-minute edge role unfortunately though owners may get one last hurrah in round 12 when Josh Papalii is absent on Origin duties. Do not rush to get Jarrod Croker this week as he has some Origin claims and a stiff BE of 87. Definitely do not be seduced by Elliot Whitehead’s run of attacking stat enhanced scores — they will not continue.

Cowboys: 1. Jordan Kahu, 2. Kyle Feldt, 3. Justin O’Neill, 4. Tom Opacic, 5. Gideon Gela-Mosby, 6. John Asiata, 7. Michael Morgan, 8. Matthew Scott, 9. Jake Granville, 10. Jordan McLean, 11. Gavin Cooper, 12. Coen Hess, 13. Jason Taumalolo

Interchange: 14. Kurt Baptiste, 15. Mitchell Dunn, 16. Scott Bolton, 17. Francis Molo

Reserves: 18. Corey Jensen, 19. Shane Wright, 20. Josh McGuire, 21. Jake Clifford

SuperCoach news: There is just one player to own from this team and his name is Jason Taumalolo. Michael Morgan rediscovered some of his touch last week and has hopefully bottomed out in price, however he is a near Origin certainty and so will miss round 12. If you have other priorities the case could be made for holding him in the hope that he goes on a run and increases in value before being traded out ahead of the round 16 bye.

SuperCoach NRL Play of the Week: Round 10 - Ryan Papenhuyzen

WARRIORS V BRONCOS

Saturday 25 May, Mt Smart Stadium, 5.30pm

Warriors: 1 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (c) 2 David Fusitu’a 3 Peta Hiku 4 Patrick Herbert 5 Ken Maumalo 6 Kodi Nikorima 7 Blake Green 8 Bunty Afoa 9 Issac Luke 10 Leeson Ah Mau 11 Isaiah Papali’i 12 Tohu Harris 13 Lachlan Burr

Interchange: 14 Jazz Tevaga 15 Adam Blair 16 Ligi Sao 17 Karl Lawton

Reserves: 18 Gerard Beale 20 Leivaha Pulu 21 Chris Satae 23 Chanel Harris-Tavita

SuperCoach news: Another team that do not play the first bye and therefore just two players of note here. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has been sensational so far this season with just one ‘bad’ score of 48 and six scores over 75 — must own. Patrick Herbert (see above) is the fourth most traded in player and he could be a decent mid-season money maker with solid job security though keep in mind a big chunk of his profit has already been realised.

Broncos: 1. Darius Boyd 2. Corey Oates 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Gehamat Shibasaki 5. Jamayne Isaako 6. Anthony Milford 7. Tom Dearden 8. Matthew Lodge 9. Jake Turpin 10. Payne Haas 11. Alex Glenn 12. Matt Gillett 13. Tevita Pangai Junior

Interchange: 14. James Segeyaro 15. David Fifita 16. Thomas Flegler 17. Joe Ofahengaue

Reserves: 18. Patrick Carrigan 19. James Roberts 20. Izaia Perese 21. Sean O’Sullivan

SuperCoach news: Tevita Pangai Jr is back! Or is he? It’s hard to tell with the mercurial Brisbane forward. At his best, Pangai Jr is a hard running, offload slinging SuperCoach stud. At his worst, well at his worst he’s still pretty good but because his best is so very good he can be frustrating to own. No help in round 12 and unlikely to increase too much in price between now and round 13 one to watch. Elsewhere, Thomas Flegler can be sold as he just cannot get the minutes to score well and Payne Haas is a must start every week.

RABBITOHS V WESTS TIGERS

Saturday 25 May, ANZ Stadium, 7.35pm

Rabbitohs: 1. Corey Allen 2. Mawene Hiroti 3. Ethan Lowe 4. Dane Gagai 5. Campbell Graham 6. Cody Walker 7. Adam Reynolds 8. George Burgess 9. Damien Cook 10. Tom Burgess 11. John Sutton 12. Sam Burgess 13. Cameron Murray

Interchange: 14. Tevita Tatola 15. Mark Nicholls 16. Dean Britt 17. Liam Knight

Reserves: 18. Jacob Gagan 19. Billy Brittain 20. Bayley Sironen 20. Dean Britt

SuperCoach news: So many SuperCoach relevant players in this side that I’ll demolish my word limit if I try to cover them all. Am on the record, often, as saying avoid Sam Burgess now because his ownership rate is so high and he is so reliant on attacking stats. Mawene Hiroti is a rookie I’d take a chance on though beware he may only see 2-3 price rises before being benched.

Tigers: 1. Moses Mbye 2. Robert Jennings 3. Paul Momirovski 4. Esan Marsters 5. Corey Thompson 6. Benji Marshall 7. Luke Brooks 8. Ben Matulino 9. Robbie Farah 10. Alex Twal 11. Ryan Matterson 12. Chris McQueen 13. Matthew Eisenhuth

Interchange: 14. Jacob Liddle 15. Thomas Mikaele 16. Josh Aloiai 17. Michael Chee-Kam

Reserves: 18. David Nofoaluma 19. Elijah Taylor 20. Oliver Clark 21. Luke Garner

SuperCoach news: Another non-round 12 team, so you could avoid any players here this week. However, ahead of round 13 both Robbie Farah and Esan Marsters should be bought. I have Farah well ahead of the far more popular Cam Smith as a complimentary hooker to Damien Cook and Marsters is growing in stature and just needs to rediscover his kicking radar to finish top-three at position by the end of the year.

BULLDOGS V STORM

Sunday 26 May, Belmore Sports Ground, 2.00pm

Bulldogs: 1. Nick Meaney 2. Christian Crichton 3. Marcelo Montoya 4. Will Hopoate 5. Reimis Smith 6. Kieran Foran 7. Jack Cogger 8. Aiden Tolman 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Dylan Napa 11. Josh Jackson 12. Corey Harawira-Naera 13. Chris Smith

Interchange: 14. Rhyse Martin 15. Ofahiki Ogden 16. Danny Fualalo 17. Sauaso Sue

Reserves: 19. Michael Lichaa 20. Lachlan Lewis 21. Kerrod Holland 23. Raymond Faitala-Mariner

SuperCoach news: Jayden Okunbor’s injury news hits all of us hard — though I’ll concede the young man may be feeling more pain than us SuperCoaches. He’s a sell now for overall player though head-to-head contenders could hold and hope for a little more money to be made. Rhyse Martin appears to have completely lost Dean Pay’s trust and should be sold. Corey Harawira-Naera is an offload machine but faces a tough test against Melbourne’s *ahem* sneakily effective defence this week.

Storm: 1. Jahrome Hughes 2. Suliasi Vunivalu 3. Will Chambers 4. Marion Seve 5. Josh Addo-Carr 6. Cameron Munster 7. Brodie Croft 8. Jesse Bromwich 9. Cameron Smith 10. Nelson Asofa-Solomona 11. Felise Kaufusi 12. Kenneath Bromwich 13. Dale Finucane

Interchange: 14. Brandon Smith 15. Joe Stimson 16. Tui Kamikamica 17. Ryan Papenhuyzen

Reserves: 18. Justin Olam 19. Patrick Kaufusi 20. Tino Faasuamaleaui 21. Sandor Earl

SuperCoach news: No help in the first bye and word limit is nearing so I’ll pass having said all I need to about Ryan Papenhuyzen above.

DRAGONS V SHARKS

Sunday 26 May, WIN Stadium, 4.05pm

Dragons: 1. Zac Lomax 2. Jordan Pereira 3. Euan Aitken 4. Tim Lafai 5. Jonas Pearson 6. Jai Field 7. Ben Hunt 8. James Graham 9. Cameron McInnes 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Tariq Sims 13. Blake Lawrie

I nterchange: 14. Luciano Leilua 15. Jacob Host 16. Reece Robson 17. Korbin Sims

Reserves: 18. Josh Kerr 19. Mitchell Allgood 20. Mikaele Ravalawa 21. Matt Dufty

SuperCoach news: The most purchased Dragon this week is Jai Field and I think that’s a mistake as Corey Norman is expected to be back by round 13 thus limiting Field to a single price increase. Zac Lomax has been shifted to fullback and he may revel in the freedom — but he may not as no team has been better at containing opposition fullbacks in 2019 than the Sharks.

Sharks: 1. Josh Dugan 2. Sosaia Feki 3. Bronson Xerri 4. Josh Morris 5. Aaron Gray 6. Kyle Flanagan 7. Chad Townsend 8. Andrew Fifita 9. Jayden Brailey 10. Matt Prior 11. Briton Nikora 12. Kurt Capewell 13. (c)

Interchange: 14. Blayke Brailey 15. Jayson Bukuya 16. Jack Williams 17. Braden Hamlin-Uele

Reserves: 18. Scott Sorensen 19. Sione Katoa 20. Billy Magoulias 21. Matt Moylan

SuperCoach news: Do not be fooled by the Sharks naming Matt Moylan in the reserves — he will play this week we just do not know whether it is at fullback or five-eighth so watch for Wacko’s Late Mail. Bronson Xerri is just a couple of caught passes away from a huge score but it is getting frustrating watching him handle like Ben Pommeroy of old. And, a final tip — if Andrew Fifita starts you play him because he’ll burn you every time you leave him on your bench.
