UNHERALDED Manly utility Nathan Green has emerged as the shock SuperCoach winner from the round one NRL team announcements.
The former Dragon retained a starting back row spot despite the returns of Lewis Brown (knee) and Feleti Mateo (ankle), who missed the trials, while Jamie Buhrer (broken jaw) is not due back until round five.
Currently owned by less than three per cent of SuperCoaches, Green will surge through the rankings in the next few days to become one of the more popular cheapies in the game.
However, the news wasn’t so good for Green’s teammate Brenton Lawrence. The prop was in the 25 most popular SuperCoach players heading into teams day, but was named in NSW Cup.
In other SuperCoach news from the round one team announcements:
• POPULAR cheapie Ben Henry was named to start in the back row for the Warriors and is now a must-have. However, teammate Konrad Hurrell bowed out of contention after missing a first grade spot;
• BEN Barba won the Cronulla fullback spot and is now a serious cheapie;
• POTENTIAL keepers Trent Merrin and Bryce Cartwright are set for big minutes after scoring starting back row spots at the Panthers;
• JORDAN Rankin emerged as a top cheapie after scoring the Tigers wing spot vacated by Pat Richards (Super League);
• PAUL Carter’s cheapie stocks surged after being named to start in the South Sydney pack, although he may not retain the spot next week when George Burgess (suspension/hip) returns;
• THE four most popular cheapies in SuperCoach - Jackson Hastings (59 per cent ownership), Latrell Mitchell (51 per cent), Jayden Nikorima (46 per cent) and Ashley Taylor (36 per cent) - were all named, as expected;
• THE Knights named eight potential cheapies in Jaelen Feeney, Pat Mata’utia, Chanel Mata’utia, Jacob Saifiti, Daniel Saifiti, Pauli Pauli, David Bhana and Lachlan Fitzgibbon.

EELS v BRONCOS
8.05pm AEDT Thursday at Pirtek Stadium
Eels: 1 Michael Gordon 2 Semi Radradra 3 Michael Jennings 4 Brad Takairangi 5 Clint Gutherson 6 Corey Norman 7 Kieran Foran (c) 8 Junior Paulo 9 Nathan Peats 10 Tim Mannah (c) 11 Manu Ma’u 12 Beau Scott 13 Tepai Moeroa. Interchange: 14 David Gower 15 Peni Terepo 16 Daniel Alvaro 17 Ken Edwards 18 Kaysa Pritchard
Casualty ward: Nathan Peats (wrist/knee, this weekend), Anthony Watmough (knee/shoulder, round two or three), John Folau (hamstring, indefinite).
Comment: Tepai Moeroa scores the lock spot of Anthony Watmough (knee), who is facing retirement, although the official line from the club is that he will return in round two or three. In any case, don’t get sucked in by Moeroa. His workrate of 0.65PPM is a massive worry, even though he played with a busted shoulder last year. Hold off on Semi Radradra until the byes. With no other hooker in the 17, Nathan Peats is set to play 80 minutes. But he averaged 75 minutes last year so don’t expect big improvement, and Kaysa Pritchard is looming at 18th man.
Broncos: 1 Darius Boyd 2 Corey Oates 3 Jordan Kahu 4 James Roberts 5 Greg Eden 6 Anthony Milford 7 Ben Hunt 8 Josh McGuire 9 Andrew McCullough 10 Adam Blair 11 Alex Glenn 12 Matt Gillett 13 Corey Parker (c). Interchange: 14 Jarrod Wallace 15 Sam Thaiday 16 Joe Ofahengaue 17 Kodi Nikorima
Casualty ward: Lachlan Maranta (fractured wrist, round seven), Jack Reed (shoulder, this weekend), Carlin Anderson (stomach, indefinite), Ben Hunt (suspension, this weekend).
Comment: Cheapie Greg Eden scores a wing spot, but steer clear as Jack Reed (shoulder) will make his return from off-season surgery this weekend for Norths Devils in the Intrust Super Cup. It’s hard to stack keepers in the halves this year given the quality of cheapies, but Anthony Milford is a superstar and wouldn’t look out of place in any side. SuperCoaches simply must find room for the old warhorse Corey Parker. Josh McGuire starts ahead of Sam Thaiday.
SEA EAGLES v BULLDOGS
8.05pm AEDT Friday at Brookvale Oval
Sea Eagles: 1 Brett Stewart 2 Jorge Taufua 3 Jamie Lyon (c) 4 Steve Matai 5 Tom Trbojevic 6 Dylan Walker 7 Daly Cherry-Evans 8 Jake Trbojevic 9 Apisai Koroisau 10 Nate Myles 11 Lewis Brown 12 Nathan Green 13 Martin Taupau. Interchange: 14 Matt Parcell 15 Blake Leary 16 Darcy Lussick 17 Feleti Mateo 18 Siosaia Vave
Casualty ward: Matt Parcell (hamstring, this weekend), Apisai Koroisau (shoulder, this weekend), Jayden Hodges (ACL, season), Jamie Buhrer (broken jaw, round five), Lewis Brown (knee, this weekend), Tom Trbojevic (ankle, this weekend), Brett Stewart (hamstring, this weekend), Isaac John (virus, indefinite), Feleti Mateo (ankle, this weekend).
Comment: Apisai Koroisau (shoulder) has recovered from off-season surgery and wins the race for the vacant No.9 jumper. Matt Parcell (hamstring) returns from an injury of his own, but has been named on the bench and is therefore out of cheapie calculations. Nathan Green, owned by less than three per cent of SuperCoaches, starts in the back row and will therefore surge in ownership. Popular prop cheapie Brenton Lawrence will play NSW Cup. Brett Stewart (hamstring) is in doubt. Tom Trbojevic would replace him at fullback, potentially opening the door for Brayden Wiliame or Hal Lavaka on the wing. Expect a huge year from Daly Cherry-Evans, who will take on a dominant playmaker role and drift from side to side. However, with all the great cheapies on offer in the halves, he’s hard to fit in ahead of Johnathan Thurston, Shaun Johnson, Anthony Milford and co. That said, at seven per cent ownership, DCE is a POD.
Bulldogs: 1 Will Hopoate 2 Curtis Rona 3 Josh Morris 4 Chase Stanley 5 Sam Perrett 6 Josh Reynolds 7 Moses Mbye 8 Aiden Tolman 9 Michael Lichaa 10 James Graham (c) 11 Josh Jackson 12 Tony Williams 13 Greg Eastwood. Interchange: 14 Sam Kasiano 15 Danny Fualalo 16 Tim Browne 17 Adam Elliott 19 Shaun Lane
Casualty ward: Brett Morris (knee, round 16), Will Hopoate (knee, this weekend), James Graham (concussion/ribs, this weekend), Lloyd Perrett (ankle, indefinite), David Klemmer (suspension, round two), Moses Mbye (glute, this weekend), Adam Keighran (shoulder, indefinite).
Comment: Will Hopoate replaces Brett Morris (knee, round 16) at fullback, with Chase Stanley coming in at centre. A cheapie (either Tyrone Phillips or Brad Abbey) is therefore just one injury off a start. Potential cheapies Danny Fualalo and Adam Elliott score bench spots. However, minutes are always a massive issue for young forwards under Des Hasler, and one will likely be dropped next week for David Klemmer (suspension, round two). James Graham (concussion/ribs) is sweet to go, but his popularity is inflated. He averaged 55 minutes last year, so it’s hard to see a massive improvement, even under the new interchange rules.

RAIDERS v PANTHERS
3pm AEDT Saturday at GIO Stadium
Raiders: 1 Jack Wighton 2 Edrick Lee 3 Jarrod Croker (c) 4 Joseph Leilua 5 Jordan Rapana 6 Sam Williams 7 Aidan Sezer 8 Shannon Boyd 9 Josh Hodgson 10 Frank-Paul Nuuausala 11 Josh Papalii 12 Elliot Whitehead 13 Shaun Fensom. Interchange: 14 Blake Austin 15 Iosia Soliola 16 Paul Vaughan 17 Jeff Lima 18 Kurt Baptiste
Casualty ward: Adam Clydesdale (shoulder, round three), Blake Austin (shoulder, this weekend), Shaun Fensom (broken arm, this weekend), Jack Wighton (concussion, this weekend).
Comment: Shaun Fensom (broken arm) is back from injury, but surely there are severe doubts over him playing 80 minutes after missing all the trials. Even if he did, the risk outweighs the reward - Fensom averaged 67 minutes last year which doesn’t leave a huge amount of improvement. Joseph Leilua has averaged 50s and 60s in the past and is a massive POD at 3.6 per cent ownership. Elliot Whitehead is one to watch. The team make-up suggests he will play 80 minutes on the edge (with Soliola saying he will play in the middle), which would bring Whitehead into keeper calculations. But at almost $400,000 he’s hard to touch and you’d want to see him bang out 80 with your own eyes first. Blake Austin has been benched and could play some hooker, ending the 80 minute claims of Josh Hodgson. Paul Vaughan has also been benched and therefore bows out of sleeper calculations. Jarrod Croker is safe as houses if you have cash for a premium gun at centre/wing.
Panthers: 1 Will Smith 2 Josh Mansour 3 Waqa Blake 4 Peta Hiku 5 Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 6 Jamie Soward 7 Peter Wallace 8 Sam McKendry 9 James Segeyaro 10 Reagan Campbell-Gillard 11 Bryce Cartwright 12 Isaah Yeo 13 Trent Merrin. Interchange: 14 Tyrone Peachey 15 Jeremy Latimore 16 Suaia Matagi 17 Elijah Taylor
Casualty ward: Matt Moylan (back, round two), Dean Whare (calf, round two), George Jennings (shoulder, round two), Viliame Kikau (ankle, indefinite), Sione Katoa (knee, round three), Reagan Campbell-Gillard (shoulder, this weekend), Brendan Atwood (arm, indefinite).
Comment: SuperCoach fancies Trent Merrin and Bryce Cartwright have both scored starting back row spots and will therefore be very popular. With no hooker on the bench, James Segeyaro is set for 80 minutes and is therefore a serious keeper candidate. Josh Mansour is a SuperCoach gun of the past but only the 10th most popular centre/wing. Forget his injury history, The Stalwarts will take the plunge. Will Smith replaces Matt Moylan (back) at fullback, while Waqa Blake slots in the centres for Dean Whare (calf).
TIGERS v WARRIORS
5.30pm AEDT Saturday at Campbelltown Stadium
Tigers: 1 James Tedesco 2 David Nofoaluma 3 Tim Simona 4 Kevin Naiqama 5 Jordan Rankin 6 Mitchell Moses 7 Jack Littlejohn 8 Aaron Woods (c) 9 Manaia Cherrington 10 Tim Grant 11 Curtis Sironen 12 Chris Lawrence 13 Sauaso Sue. Interchange: 14 Kyle Lovett 15 Josh Aloiai 16 Ava Seumanufagai 17 Jack Buchanan 18 Michael Chee Kam
Casualty ward: Luke Brooks (suspension, round two), Dene Halatau (suspension, round two), Joel Edwards (hamstring, round two), Matt Ballin (ACL, round eight), Justin Hunt (back, indefinite), Bailey Sironen (ankle, round two), Robbie Farah (knee, round five)
Comment: Jordan Rankin has emerged as a serious cheapie candidate after claiming the wing spot vacated by Pat Richards. He has the added bonus of kicking goals, but also the obvious drawback of only being available at five-eighth and fullback. With no bench hooker, Manaia Cherrington could play 80 minutes. However, there is the chance he is spelled by utility Kyle Lovett, and with Dene Halatau due back next week the big minutes are unlikely to continue. Let’s face it, Jayden Nikorima is the only serious cheapie candidate at hooker. James Tedesco was on fire during the final trial, but it’s with a very heavy heart that he won’t be a Stalwart to start the year. You can’t fit them all in. Aaron Woods is a popular buy after taking the Tigers captaincy, but he averaged 56 minutes last year, so it’s hard to see big improvement. Possible cheapie Josh Aloiai has been named to debut, but minutes are always an issue for young forwards and someone has to drop out for Halatau next week. Popular cheapies Michael Chee Kam (18th man) and Josh Addo-Carr (NSW Cup) miss out.
Warriors: 1 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 2 Tuimoala Lolohea 3 Blake Ayshford 4 Solomone Kata 5 Manu Vatuvei 6 Shaun Johnson 7 Jeff Robson 8 Jacob Lillyman 9 Issac Luke 10 Ben Matulino 11 Ben Henry 12 Ryan Hoffman (c) 13 Simon Mannering. Interchange: 14 Nathaniel Roache 15 Sam Lisone 16 James Gavet 17 Bodene Thompson 18 Jonathan Wright 20 Albert Vete
Casualty ward: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (ribs, this weekend), Thomas Leuluai (ACL, round five), Henare Wells (hamstring, indefinite), Ligi Sao (dislocated shoulder, indefinite), Sione Lousi (round four), Sipley Toafofoa (round four), Mason Lino (round four), Bodene Thompson (this weekend), Jacob Lillyman (this weekend), David Fusitu’a (this weekend), Raymond Faitala-Mariner (this weekend), John Palavii (this weekend)
Comment: Ben Henry is a must have dual position cheapie after being named to start in the back row. However, Konrad Hurrell misses out. Shaun Johnson has switched to five-eighth. This will improve his running game, which can’t be a bad thing for SuperCoach. Hopes of Issac Luke playing 80 minutes have been dashed by the selection of Nathaniel Roache on the bench. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck won’t be a Stalwart to start the year following a disrupted pre-season. He was only OK at the Nines before picking up a calf injury. The Warriors then got smashed by the Dragons in the final trial, where RTS picked up a rib injury.
COWBOYS v SHARKS
7.30pm AEDT Saturday at 1300SMILES STADIUM
Cowboys: 1 Lachlan Coote 2 Kyle Feldt 3 Justin O’Neill 4 Kane Linnett 5 Antonio Winterstein 6 Michael Morgan 7 Johnathan Thurston (c) 8 Matthew Scott (c) 9 Jake Granville 10 James Tamou 11 Gavin Cooper 12 Ethan Lowe 13 Jason Taumalolo. Interchange: 14 Rory Kostjasyn 15 John Asiata 16 Scott Bolton 17 Ben Hannant.
Casualty ward: Ray Thompson (broken ankle, round 10), Tautau Moga (ACL, indefinite)
Comment: The Cowboys will field the same 17 as last year’s grand final - no surprises, no rookies. Johnathan Thurston is the only player of SuperCoach relevance and he is hot property following a masterclass in the World Club Challenge.
Sharks: 1 Ben Barba 2 Sosaia Feki 3 Jack Bird 4 Ricky Leutele 5 Valentine Holmes 6 James Maloney 7 Chad Townsend 8 Andrew Fifita 9 Michael Ennis 10 Sam Tagataese 11 Luke Lewis 12 Wade Graham 13 Paul Gallen (c). Interchange: 14 Chris Heighington 15 Matt Prior 16 David Fifita 17 Jayson Bukuya 18 Gerard Beale 19 Joseph Paulo
Casualty ward: Mitch Brown (broken ribs, indefinite), Tracey Connor (ACL, season).
Comment: Ben Barba scores the fullback spot and is now a very tempting cash cow with dual position flexibility. Andrew Fifita (nine per cent ownership) and Paul Gallen (16 per cent) are two of the greatest players in SuperCoach history, but somehow massive PODS.
ROOSTERS v RABBITOHS
4pm AEDT Sunday at Allianz Stadium
Roosters: 1 Blake Ferguson 2 Daniel Tupou 3 Dale Copley 4 Shaun Kenny-Dowall 5 Latrell Mitchell 6 Jayden Nikorima 7 Jackson Hastings 8 Kane Evans 9 Jake Friend (c) 10 Dylan Napa 11 Aidan Guerra 12 Mitchell Aubusson 13 Isaac Liu. Interchange: 14 Sio Siua Taukeiaho 15 Sam Moa 16 Ian Henderson 17 Vincent Leuluai 18 Mitchell Frei 19 Joe Burgess.
Casualty ward: Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (ACL, indefinite), Mitchell Pearce (disciplinary, indefinite), Boyd Cordner (pectoral, round eight).
Comment: You’re kidding yourself if you don’t have Latrell Mitchell, Jayden Nikorima and Jackson Hastings. Vincent Leuluai is also a cheapie option. He has decent job security following the injuries to Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (ACL, indefinite) and Boyd Cordner (pectoral, round eight), although minutes are an issue. However, perhaps the biggest winner from the forward injuries will be Kane Evans. He was the best points per minute player in SuperCoach last year and is set to significantly up his game time from just 27 minutes. In the best case scenario he plays 50-60 mins (as he did in the World Club Series) and becomes and Andrew Fifita-like keeper - at least until JWH returns. At the very least he should play 40 minutes, score some nice rises and be your ticket to a keeper.
Rabbitohs: 1 Greg Inglis (c) 2 Alex Johnston 3 Bryson Goodwin 4 Hymel Hunt 5 Aaron Gray 6 Cody Walker 7 Adam Reynolds 8 Sam Burgess 9 Cameron McInnes 10 David Tyrell 11 Paul Carter 12 John Sutton 13 Kyle Turner. Interchange: 14 Damien Cook 15 Jason Clark 16 Chris Grevsmuhl 17 Zane Musgrove 18 Kirisome Auva’a 19 Nathan Brown.
Casualty ward: Adam Reynolds (foot, this weekend), Luke Keary (suspension, round two), Tom Burgess (ankle, round five), George Burgess (suspension/hip, round two), Chris Grevsmuhl (knee, this weekend).
Comment: Bargain buy Kirisome Auva’a misses out on the 17. He is replaced by recruit Hymel Hunt, who is essentially the same price, so the straight swap is on. Paul Carter has surged into cheapie contention after scoring a starting back row slot. Yes, he may relinquish the spot when George Burgess (suspension/hip, round two) returns next week, with Sam Burgess to move into the back row. However, there is plenty to be said for picking SuperCoaches cheapies who are huge talents in actual NRL (Carter is most certainly that), even if minutes aren’t assured. Think Chris Grevsmuhl last year, who started slowly but ended up making very handy cash. Sam Burgess’s move to prop is not a worry - 13 is essentially the same position as 8 these days. Greg Inglis is a massive POD at under eight per cent ownership. Rookie Zane Musgrove will likely lose his spot next week when George Burgess returns.
TITANS v KNIGHTS
6.30pm AEDT Sunday at Cbus Super Stadium
Titans: 1 Will Zillman (c) 2 Anthony Don 3 Josh Hoffman 4 Nathan Davis 5 David Mead 6 Tyrone Roberts 7 Ashley Taylor 8 David Shillington 9 Nathan Friend (c) 10 Agnatius Paasi 11 Zeb Taia 12 Chris McQueen 13 Greg Bird. Interchange: 14 Eddy Pettybourne 15 Ryan James 16 Leivaha Pulu 17 Daniel Mortimer 18 Lachlan Burr 19 Leva Li.
Casualty ward: Kane Elgey (ACL, season), Karl Lawton (adductor, round four), Oshae Tuiasau (MCL, round six), Ashley Taylor (shoulder, this weekend), Greg Bird (cheek, this weekend), Nene Macdonald (knee, round three), Josh Hoffman (knee, this weekend), Luke Douglas (suspension, round two), Nathaniel Peteru (knee, round six), Kierran Moseley (knee, this weekend).
Comment: Ashley Taylor (shoulder) has been named after missing the final trial and is a must-have cheapie. Centre Nathan Davis and bench forward Leivaha Pulu will make their debuts and start at bottom dollar. But both have job security issues. Davis will likely lose his spot to Nene Macdonald (knee, round three), while Pulu could make way for Luke Douglas (suspension, round two). Will Zillman (calf) is in doubt. David Mead would replace him at fullback, which could bring a cheapie onto the wing. Contenders include this week’s recruit John Olive, Leva Li, Brian Kelly and Greg Leleisiuao. Agnatius Paasi (49 minutes) and Chris McQueen (67 minutes) have been heavily backed, but both played big minutes last year and don’t have huge room for improvement.
Knights: 1 Jaelen Feeney 2 Chanel Mata’utia 3 Dane Gagai 4 Pat Mata’utia 5 Akuila Uate 6 Jarrod Mullen 7 Trent Hodkinson 8 Kade Snowden 9 Tyler Randell 10 Sam Mataora 11 Jacob Safiti 12 Robbie Rochow 13 Jeremy Smith. Interchange: 14 David Bhana 15 Korbin Sims 16 Lachlan Fitzgibbon 17 Pauli Pauli 18 Daniel Safiti 19 Nathan Ross
Casualty ward: Sione Mata’utia (suspension, round two), Tariq Sims (suspension, round six), James McManus (concussion, season), Jarrod Mullen (disciplinary, this weekend).
Comment: The Knights have named eight potential cheapies in Jaelen Feeney, Pat Mata’utia, Chanel Mata’utia, Jacob Saifiti, Daniel Saifiti, Pauli Pauli, David Bhana and Lachlan Fitzgibbon. Feeney is the pick of the bunch. He will get a solid crack at the fullback spot and is a must-have. Jacob Saifiti also looms as a great purchase after being named to start in the back row, which is very rare for a forward debutant and bodes well for minutes and job security. However, from there the cheapie buys thin out. Pauli has strong job security, but has exhibited a poor workrate in the past (he scored at just 0.79 points per minute last year). He’s only a maybe at this stage. Pat and Chanel Mata’utia have job security issues due to the impending return of brother Sione (suspension, round two), while Jake Mamo also waits in the wings. That said, it appears Chanel has the best job security of the two. Prop Daniel Saifiti and hooker Bhana may struggle for minutes off the bench. Fitzgibbon has been named in No. 16 due to a jersey size drama, but he is actually the 18th man and therefore unlikely to play.
STORM v DRAGONS
7pm AEDT Monday at AAMI Park
Storm: 1 Billy Slater 2 Marika Koroibete 3 Will Chambers 4 Richard Kennar 5 Young Tonumaipea 6 Blake Green 7 Cooper Cronk 8 Jesse Bromwich 9 Cameron Smith (c) 10 Jordan McLean 11 Kevin Proctor 12 Tohu Harris 13 Dale Finucane. Interchange: 14 Kenny Bromwich 15 Tim Glasby 16 Ben Hampton 17 Christian Welch 18 Felise Kaufusi 19 Nelson Asofa-Solomona
Casualty ward: Billy Slater (shoulder, this weekend), Cameron Munster (medial ligament, round two), Cheyse Blair (foot, indefinite), Matt White (calf, indefinite).
Comment: Billy Slater (shoulder) has been named to return following off-season surgery. This is a massive coup for POD-hunters as Slater is only owned by 10 per cent. Further, the NRL great is just the 18th most expensive fullback in SuperCoach following an injury-ravaged year. Unfortunately, Slater’s return has denied a debut for cheapie Curtis Scott. Tohu Harris is the safest bet as a centre/wing keeper, while Cameron Smith and Jesse Bromwich never let SuperCoaches down.
Dragons: 1 Kurt Mann 2 Euan Aitken 3 Josh Dugan 4 Tim Lafai 5 Jason Nightingale 6 Gareth Widdop (c) 7 Benji Marshall 8 Leeson Ah Mau 9 Mitch Rein 10 Russell Packer 11 Will Matthews 12 Joel Thompson 13 Mike Cooper. Interchange: 14 Ben Creagh (c) 15 Jack de Belin 16 Dunamis Lui 17 Siliva Havili 18 Peter Mata’utia 19 Tyrone McCarthy 20 Jake Marketo
Casualty ward: Tyson Frizell (back, round two), Dylan Farrell (back, indefinite), Mose Masoe (ACL, season), Yaw Kiti Glymin (hamstring, indefinite).
Comment: Not much to like here. Russell Packer is a potential improver, but awkwardly priced and there are cheapies on offer. Mike Cooper scores Trent Merrin’s lock spot, but with Jack Be Belin on the bench it will be hard to improve on his average of 55 minutes. Tim Lafai was an early season buzz buy, but didn’t impress in the trials.
