YOUR resident stats nerd is here to unearth the hidden gems each week that will get you ahead of the curve (your mates). Stats like highest projected scores, captaincy percentages, ownership nuances, and career/opposition trends.

We will take a nerdy look at the locked-in cheapie of the year, the best offload merchants, a new No.6 at the Panthers, the most popular CTW in the game, some under-the-radar guns and more in this week’s edition …

Here we go!

Corey Harawira-Naera | 113 & 172 & -57

Kalyn Ponga and Felise Kaufusi have been excellent this season, making huge amounts of cash, but this guy … love me some CHN! Harawira-Naera was a late inclusion to the Panthers side to take on the Eels last weekend and boy did he make the most of it. A try, 32 tackles, 10 points in tackle busts, two offloads, two line breaks, a line break assist and 20 points in H8’s for 113 points! As we said when he made his debut, the guy is built for SuperCoach.

The stat 172 is in reference to a RECORD that now belongs to CHN. Having just played the fifth game of his career, CHN has incurred two price rises. Through those two price rises CHN has gone from $122k to $294k … Yep, $172k in just two weeks! A record price rise and now someone who could well prove to be a 2RF keeper. Oh, and he’s still got a BE of -57!

Offloads | +4

For those that aren’t aware, an effective offload is worth four points to SuperCoaches, with an ineffective offload worth two points. When people think of the best offload in the NRL, general thought processes head towards the best big men in the game and mobile backrowers like Bryce Cartwright. Let me enlighten you, here are the top 10 offloaders in the competition.

David Nofoaluma — 24

Daniel Tupou — 19

Brenko Lee — 19

Curtis Sironen — 17

Jack DeBelin — 17

Michael Chee-Kam — 16

Andrew Fifita — 16

Martin Taupau — 15 (in just four games!)

Paul Gallen — 15

Tim Lafai — 15

So, yes there are some of the standard big men you would come to expect on this list, but the top four have to be as much of a shock as any stat this season. Get them on your watchlist!

Bryce Cartwright | 80.1 & 157 & 89.4

Speaking of SuperCoach studs from the foot of the mountains, Bryce Cartwright is top of the list — normally. He returned this past weekend after a five-week absence and delivered a 30-point dud. As a result, the #CartyParty is dropping cash like it’s nobody’s business … 80.1 used to be about his weekly average, but that in fact equates to his cash lost — $80,100 in one week. To make matters worse, he still has a BE of 157 and is looking at another $67k price drop this week against the Broncos at Suncorp.

On a positive note for non-owners, Carty is named in the No.6 jersey where he played 11 matches last season for an average of 89.4PPG with scores of 117, 103, 114, 115 and 106 among those games! SuperCoach GOLD projects Carty to be available at $318,900 for their round 11 clash with the Knights. Hmm …

Nick Cotric | 74 & 60,228

It’s decision time for 60,228 SuperCoaches when it comes to the most popular cheapie this year, Nick Cotric. The seriously talented youngster has been awesome to this point, averaging 41.9PPG, but the round eight 13-point effort resulted in a $13.2k loss and brought things to a peak very quickly. Cotric’s BE is 74 (well above his season average!) and SuperCoach GOLD projects him to lose another $16k this week, but with literally zero downgrade options and the Raiders’ great coverage of the round 12 bye it may well be advisable to hold on despite the impending price drops. If you were to sell, it’s probably a week to go up to a gun!

Jake Trbojevic | 77.7 & 80

The “Big Fella’’ of the Twin Turbos combination wreaking havoc on the NRL has been a relatively popular SuperCoach option over the past two seasons. The relevance of this stat is the amazing three-game average of 77.7PPG with scores of 51, 93 and 89 and, notably for SuperCoaches, three of the past four games have seen Turbo play the full 80 minutes. When he does play the full allotment of minutes we’re talking elite-of-the-game type scores.

Over the course of JTurbo’s career, he has played the full 80 minutes in 16 matches for scores of 79, 58, 105, 58, 102, 75, 71, 51, 39, 68, 112, 73, 47, 65, 93 and 89. That’s an average of 74.1PPG, and if this trend continues he will be a best-17 player without a doubt.

Jarryd Hayne | 72 & 84.9 & 248,400

It’s happening again. Just when we thought Hayne may have been an afterthought for the 2017 SuperCoach season, he comes back with a match-winning 72-point performance against the reigning premiers away from home. Next up? The Knights! That’s right, the team that is running Jaelen Feeney and Brock Lamb in the halves and without stars Jamie Buhrer, Mitch Barnett and Trent Hodkinson due to injury and poor performance. Priced at $248,400 many SuperCoaches can simply do a straight swap from the likes of Brock Lamb, Ryley Jacks etc. For a guy that has been the No.3 overall SuperCoach player in 2014 with an average of 84.9PPG it really does make sense to see how this plays out. I can assure you, you won’t be alone.

Tim Lafai | 99 & 87.7

Did you jump on Lafai at some point over the past two seasons as a speculative mid-ranger after his 60.6PPG average breakout season with the Bulldogs in 2014, only to be very disappointed? Well, it turns out the initial starting price of $281,900 this season was the right time. Lafai is the 16th overall pointscorer (fifth among CTW’s) with a three-round average of 87.7PPG and is now up to $458k! This week, Lafai is projected by SuperCoach GOLD to be the highest scorer of any player in the competition with 99 points. Owned by only 1.4 per cent of the competition, Lafai looms as one of the best POD’s this season.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck | 99

RTS has been very, very good this season in his return from an ACL injury that ruined the whole 2016 campaign. While it hasn’t always shown on the SuperCoach stat sheet (52.4PPG average), this guy is one of the best in the business. With his 59-point outing on ANZAC Day against the Storm, RTS made it four straight 55+ scores — 85, 55, 58 and 59 — with only one try, and regularly having 20+ points in H8’s.

The stat of 99 is the highest career average of any player in the NRL against their opposition this week. The “revenge game” theory is floated about heavily in American sport, and against his former club RTS seems to lift for an average of 99PPG. Expect a biggie at Mt. Smart from the gun fullback.

Jesse Bromwich | 300 & 69.7, 62.1, 65.3

Of all of the disappointments this season, Jesse Bromwich has to be atop the list (for those who started with him anyway) with an average of 36.2PPG through six games — including the injury-affected round one score of 11. Prior to this season, the Kiwi skipper was widely regarded as the No.1 prop in the game as season averages of 69.7, 62.1 and 65.3PPG over the past three seasons would suggest. The number 300 is in reference to the very real possibility that Bromwich will be available in round 10 at under $300,000 for the first time since 2013. The positive in recent weeks is that his minutes are back up over the 50 mark, and he will hopefully be ripe for the picking come round 13.

Sio Siua Taukeiaho | 1.2

Shhhh! Savvy SuperCoaches will know just how good this guy is, but what you may not have noticed is that “TKO” as he’s affectionately known, has a PPM of 1.2 despite “easing” back from injury. Scores of 37 and 54 in 30 and 45 minutes respectively is a good sign, and although Mitch Aubusson’s absence for the ANZAC Day game may have inflated the minutes, this guy should be on everyone’s shopping list in the next three weeks with the Roosters covering the all-important round 12 & 18 byes. During the bye period last year, with the likes of Cordner, Guerra and Pearce missing, TKO had scores of 79, 61, 53, 56, 61 and 51. Not crazy numbers, but great reliability in base stats.
