NRL SuperCoach Stat Attack: Numbers to decide Round 6

This week we take a ‘statty’ look at players with elite consistency, SJ’s resurgence and teams who concede the most SuperCoach points.

SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell - Round 6

Everyone knows the guns, everyone knows the cheapies, but your resident stats nerd is here to unearth the hidden gems each week that will get you ahead of the curve (your mates!) for H2H or overall glory.

This week we take a ‘statty’ look at: Players with elite consistency, SJ’s resurgence, teams who concede the most SuperCoach points, a Panther to whack on the watch list and plenty more!

Here we go.

Elite Consistency | 65+ x 1

When considering the ‘elite’ category for SuperCoach players in regards to averages, it does differ from position to position, but as a general rule 65 is the marker to go by. So, after five rounds we now have a great sample size of players in that realm. But, who are the most reliable? Who has gone 65+ points in EVERY match so far (minimum three games played)? You may be surprised…

Rhyse Martin - 65, 70 & 69 - 78PPG average

That’s IT! No Jurbo, No Fifita, No Cook. With scores of 65, 70 and 69 thus far for an average of 68PPG, I think you heard me last season when I said… GOD 2.0.

So, let’s lower the cut-off to 60PPG in EVERY match to illustrate that next tier.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck - 95, 61, 69, 83 & 89 - 79.4PPG average

David Klemmer - 69, 60, 66, 78 & 83 - 71.2PPG average

Addin Fonua-Blake - 69, 65, 63 & 70 - 66.8PPG average

There you have it… That’s the entire list. I found it astonishing, even the best in the business have lapses or down games, meaning these guys are worth paying up for on reliability alone.

Shaun Johnson | 463

The best SuperCoach half over the past five years has had an injury affected start to his first season in a Sharks jersey. Scores of 26, 59, 77 and 41 with a game missed last weekend due to quad tightness leave his season average at 50.8PPG and has his BE at 72 this week. As a result, non-owners (like myself!) should be saving those pennies because amazingly, he could be available to us under $500k for the first time in years, with SuperCoach Stats projecting SJ to be priced at $463,700 after a round eight matchup with the Storm. Mouth watering.

Don't miss the NRL Magic Round in Brisbane.

Points Conceded | 800+

With five rounds of data in the books, we can start to safely make choices based on legitimate trends and stats pointing us in the right direction for things like captaincy. One of the best stats in the business is which team concedes the most points on average. For the record, the range of teams’ points conceded averages are: Lowest - 641 points, and highest - 890 points. But, there are only THREE teams conceding over 800 SuperCoach points each week, they are…

1st - Bulldogs - 890 Average Points Conceded (APC)

2nd - Broncos - 853 APC

3rd - Cowboys - 815 APC

Quite remarkable really, as the consensus opinion would likely have the Titans, Sea Eagles and Warriors at the top of this unwanted tree. Target your last reserve choices, captaincy and even trade-in decisions around these teams.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak | 103,700 & 47.1

Starting the season on the wing this season, DWZ had an injury interrupted start with low scores of 14, 37, 9 (injured), 27. Then, last week, coach Cleary made the move to switch DWZ to fullback and Dylan Edwards to the wing, but relevantly, DWZ has already dropped $103,700 from his starting price. In non injury-affected games at fullback last season, DWZ had scores of 32, 51, 63, 34, 40, 34, 55, and 68 for an average of 47.1PPG which would represent a significant value-add to his current price, with the added bonus of dual position FLB | CTW and round 12 coverage. Interesting.

Kalyn Ponga | 80+ & 94

Thankfully the halves experiment is over * face palm *. If you weren’t aware, Kalyn Ponga’s 81 points last week included 16 minutes on the sidelines due to an HIA, so that is scores of 88 and 81 since the move back to fullback with huge increases in hitup, tackle bust and assist numbers. Even more exciting is this week’s matchup, the Titans, who Ponga averages a whopping 94PPG against in his career with scores of 98 and 90 previously. Ah, captaincy anyone?

Robbie Farah & James Fisher-Harris | 2, 10 & 87+

Stats wise, these two have been racking them up all season long to sit 2nd and 10th for overall points respectively, but this particular stat focuses on their SuperCoach Stats projected scores in this weekend’s matchups — which has them as the two highest scorers of any players in the game.

Farah is averaging 81.4PPG so far this year, and this weekend against the Eels he is projected to produce the highest score across the board with 92 points. Fisher-Harris is on absolute fire with scores of 72 and 102 in recent weeks. He is projected by SuperCoach Stats to finish with the second highest score this week — 87 points against the Sharks.

Captains | 12.9

When it comes to the Captain’s Armband, Captain Cook was the right man to hitch your wagon to last week, and no surprises that he remains the top option this week as a result. Here are the most popular captains as it stands…

Damien Cook - 14.1%

Sam Burgess - 12.1%

James Tedesco - 8.9%

Kalyn Ponga - 7.3%

Andrew Fifita - 5.5%

Jake Trbojevic - 4.9%

Lockouts this weekend | Fri & Mon

A little public service announcement for this weekend, a long weekend for Easter, where your ‘normal programming’ is NOT the norm. The first game of the round is as per usual on Thursday night, but on Good Friday the first game between the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs kicks off at 4.05pm, with the second match at 7.55pm. The other major change is that the last game of the round will be a public holiday MONDAY afternoon game at 4pm between the Eels and Tigers. This has a huge affect on late mail, captaincy decisions, and is important to plan your reserves in chronological order. Don’t get caught out, you’ve been warned!

There you have it. As always, hit us up on @SuperCoachNRL or @copes9 if there are any stats you would love to see. Good luck this week!
