SuperCoach NRL: Winners & Losers - Round 5

Everyone knows the guns, everyone knows the cheapies, but your resident stats nerd is here to unearth the hidden gems each week that will get you ahead of the curve (your mates!) for H2H or overall glory.

This week we take a ‘statty’ look at … The top two overall players, a base stat beast worth paying up for, PPM monsters in reduced roles, the most traded in player this week and plenty more.

Here we go!

Robbie Farah & Clint Gutherson | 1 & 2

Did you know, Farah and Gutho are currently the top two ranked players for overall points scored — with 338 and 325 points respectively through four rounds?! What makes this even more incredible is the comparison of 2018 vs 2019 for these two. Gutherson is averaging 81.3PPG compared to 46.9PPG last season, that’s an increase of 34.4PPG! Farah sits with an average of 84.5PPG this season compared to 62.2PPG. Crazy good numbers. The question is, can they keep it up and be ‘must own’ players season long?

David Klemmer | 68.3 & 64.8

Klemmer is at a new club this season, but it certainly hasn’t taken him any time to get acclimatised. An average of 68.3PPG so far with scores of 69, 60, 66 and 78 points is a fantastic start, but the most incredible numbers are the ‘base stat’ totals. Over those four matches, Klemmer has scored 59, 62, 64 and 74 points — an average of 64.8PPG in pure, rolled gold, reliable, bloody worth paying up for, base stats. At just $561,100 with dual FRF|2RF it’s time SuperCoaches give Klemmer a good hard look.

Jayden Okunbor | -100 & 132,000

The most purchased player this week (over 32,000 trades IN) scored a humungous 102 points with just the one try, 14 points in tackle busts, a barnstorming three line breaks and 41 points in hit ups. Understandably, the SuperCoach world is going berserk — but what can we expect moving forward? Well, with a BE of -100, Okunbor is projected by SuperCoach Stats to make the highest single week profit of any player in history… $132,000!! Given the base stats are well over 40, he’s a safe play in your 17 against the Dragons in a matchup with fellow cheapie Mikaele Ravalawa.

PPM | Top 10

When it comes to identifying the best under-priced players to purchase in SuperCoach, one of the best things to monitor is the ‘points per minute’ (PPM) stat. The best players in this area when an injury, suspension or role change allows more minutes will jump in price (and scoring rate!) dramatically. Here’s the top 10 in PPM for Round 4 with a minimum of 20 minutes played.

Tui Kamikamika (Storm) - 2.3PPM in 26 minutes

Nelson Asofa-Solomona (Storm) - 1.7PPM in 35 minutes

Siliva Havili (Raiders) - 1.6PPM in 22 minutes

Blake Lawrie (Dragons) - 1.5PPM in 31 minutes

Mitch Aubusson (Roosters) - 1.4PPM in 50 minutes

John Asiata (Cowboys) - 1.4PPM in 48 minutes

Kane Evans (Eels) - 1.4PPM in 23 minutes

Jordan Rapana (Raiders) - 1.4PPM in 80 minutes

Hame Sele (Panthers) - 1.4PPM in 36 minutes

Tom Trbojevic (Sea Eagles) 1.4PPM in 42 minutes

Dylan Brown & Adam Keighran | 58.2 & 53.9

This one is a unique situation that apparently everyone (well, over 50% of teams is a lot!) is dealing with — Dylan Brown, listed as ‘out indefinitely’, and Adam Keighran who was dropped by the Warriors who are STILL the second and third most popular players in the game behind Briton Nikora. This is all about to change with Chanel Harris-Tavita on the horizon next week, but the way you attack these two players with such high ownership will have a profound affect on overall success.

Joe Tapine, Nathan Brown, Damien Cook & Jamayne Isaako | 100+

This stat is all about the BEs of some very relevant SuperCoach names, and we’re NOT talking positively here. All of these players, plus the likes of Connor Watson, Robbie Farah, Greg Inglis and Corey Oates all have BEs over 100 — meaning we can buy them on the cheap soon!

Joe Tapine (Raiders) BE 161

Nathan Brown (Eels) BE 158

Connor Watson (Knights) BE 140

Greg Inglis (Rabbitohs) BE 125

Corey Oates (Broncos) BE 120

Robbie Farah (Tigers) BE 119

Damien Cook (Rabbitohs) BE 112

Jamayne Isaako (Broncos) BE 110

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck | 83 & 4

When it comes to matchups this week, the man SuperCoach Stats projects to have the best score in the ENTIRE competition is RTS with 83 points against the Rabbitohs. So far this season, RTS has scores of 95, 61, 69 and 83 for an average of 77PPG, good enough to sit 4th for overall points. In the absence of Tom Trbojevic it’s about time the reigning Dally M Medal winner and 2015 number one overall point scorer stopped being referred to as a POD.

Captains | 12.9

When it comes to the Captain’s Armband, gone are the days of the lock in Corey Parker, Paul Gallen or Sonny Bill Williams every week captain. It’s an ever fluctuating situation where matchups are key and picking your moment to go with a POD can make all the difference. Here are the round five most popular captains as it stands…

Sam Burgess - 12.9%

Damien Cook - 10.5%

James Tedesco - 8.3%

Andrew Fifita - 7%

Jake Trbojevic - 5.5%

Kalyn Ponga - 5.1%

There you have it. As always, hit us up on @SuperCoachNRL or @copes9 if there are any stats you would love to see. Good luck this week!
