NRL SuperCoach Play of the Week Round 12 - James Tedesco

NO doubt you’re frantically trying to find players to actually take the field for your SuperCoach franchise, and given the lack of numbers available to us, let me steer you into a few stats that lend themselves to success in round 13 to ease the pain …

Your resident stats nerd is here to unearth the hidden gems each week that will get you ahead of the curve (your mates). Stats like highest projected scores, captaincy %’s, ownership nuances, and career/opposition trends.

This week we take a look at the form big man in all of SuperCoach, a perennially under rated POD, highest projected scorers, Moylan the most traded in player and more … Here we go!

Andrew Fifita | 700, 84, 13.9 & 89.3

Fifita is the undisputed number one FRF option this year, and arguably the best performed player on a consistency basis in the entire game. The relevant stats here really are an appreciation piece … $700,200 is the price tag (unheard of for a FRF not named Gallen), 89.3PPG is the average over the past three rounds which leads to him being this week’s most popular captaincy choice at 13.9 per cent of all teams. What can you expect if you do run with Fifita as skipper? Well, that’s our last stat … 84 points is what SuperCoach Stats projects him to score, the highest of any player taking the field this weekend. Impressive stuff.

Lachlan Fitzgibbon | 10, 1, 74.5 & 50+

Fitzy is absolutely killing it! In fact, he has been for well over a year now but somehow he remains in POD-territory (just 7 per cent owned!) all year round. The common perception is that his “base stats” just aren’t good enough. Well, sitting 10th for overall points scored, Fitzy’s last four scores have been 88, 83, 49 and 78 for an average of 74.5PPG. As far as base stats go — including tackle busts, I’m here to impress upon you that they’re MUCH improved.

Round 9 v Rabbitohs: 36 tackles, 8pts tackle busts, 17pts hit-ups = 61 points

Round 10 v Panthers: 35 tackles, 8pts tackle busts, 10pts hit-ups = 53 points

Round 11 v Titans: 37 tackles, 2pts tackle busts, 14pts hit-ups = 53 points

Round 12 v Sharks: 28 tackles, 6pts tackle busts, 17pts hit-ups = 51 points

Considering the “elite” guns in the base stat categories sit around the 55-65 mark, this shows Fitzy has upped his work rate and the attacking stats are just an added bonus!

Manu Ma’u & Addin Fonua-Blake | 73 & 72

As far as SuperCoach Stats projections go, Fifita and Taumalolo sit at the top this week, but coming in close behind in third and fourth are Manu Ma’u and Addin Fonua-Blake. Ma’u has been in stellar form, so good that you will hardly believe your eyes when I lay the scores down for you. The past seven matches, Ma’u has scored 62, 71, 97, 63, 68, 86 and 62 for an average of 72.71PPG. A LOW score of 62, and projected score this week of 73? Wow.

Fonua-Blake has been solid as a rock in increased minutes over the past four weeks, scoring 77, 46, 59 and 49 playing upwards of 57 minutes. In the absence of Jake Turbo this weekend AFB is projected to score 72 points, both he and Marty Taupau you would imagine will be asked to step up even more so against the Cowboys tonight.

Matt Moylan numbers are going off. Picture: AAP

Matt Moylan | -34, 72, 5,600 & 130+

The most traded-in player this week (over 5600 confirmed trades already), Matt Moylan has surged into form at the right time of year for SuperCoaches! Last weekend was incredible … SIX try assists for a whopping 72 points, and 134 points in total leaving him with a BE of -34 leading in to the massive round 13 bye. If Moylan scores as projected the next two weeks, he will rise over $130,000 in value along with the scoring upside to make up two players’ worth of value this weekend. On the flip side, Moylan did score nine points in the full 80 minutes against the Raiders as recently as three weeks ago. Do you dare?

Enari Tuala | 5 & 0.6

Don’t be ashamed if you’ve never heard of Tuala, I’m sure a lot of NRL experts haven’t seen too much of the kid out of North Queensland. Having played the past two matches off the bench in a utility/edge role for 47 and 42 minutes, scoring 28 and 25 points respectively (good for a 0.6PPM) Tuala certainly hasn’t screamed out PICK ME! But, this week coach Paul Green has made the switch and given the Junior Kangaroo a start in the centres somewhat surprisingly over Ben Hampton, so the upside may well be much higher. As one of the only cheapie options available this weekend, the BE of 5 and matchup against a depleted Sea Eagles outfit, there’s certainly merit in jumping on board.

Jake Trbojevic & Josh Addo-Carr | 116 & 142

This one is all about Origin and high BE’s. One is an out-and-out gun, the second-highest overall pointscorer across the entirety of 2017, Jake Trbojevic, who possesses a BE of 116. With a guaranteed missed game this weekend, possibility of reduced minutes over Origin and a high BE, would you contemplate selling the great man from the Northern Beaches? Another who misses this weekend due to Origin and has the highest BE (142) of any player in SuperCoach is Josh Addo-Carr. Given he is priced at $595,900 and already lost $100,800 last week alone, it may well be time to ship him out to a gun playing this weekend.

Captains | 14.3

By way of captaincy decisions, it’s been a tough year to say the least! But, when you nail it there is no sweeter feeling — particularly in a week such as this one where teams will have anywhere between 8-16 players likely. So, who are the masses selecting?

Andrew Fifita — 14.3 per cent

Jason Taumalolo — 8.9 per cent

Kalyn Ponga — 8.7 per cent

Sam Burgess — 2.7 per cent

Marty Taupau — 1.7 per cent

Some very nice POD options in there!

Ken Sio could be a bargain. Picture: AAP

Ken Sio & Paul Gallen | 95 & 78.4

In a difficult week for numbers, playing the match-ups can be key in scoring “overs” when compared to season averages. Ken Sio was a popular mid-season purchase and for those who held (almost 5000 teams) he gets a match-up this weekend against the Eels who he averages 95PPG against — the highest career average of any player taking the field this weekend.

Paul Gallen on the other hand is a cut-price trade-in option for this week after an injury-affected start to the year. He averages 78.44PPG against the Rabbitohs, albeit largely in his old 80-minute role, but at $480k he may well be worth a look. Just make sure you have a tough stomach …

There you have it. I hope the stats point you in the right direction this week. As always, hit us up on @SuperCoachNRL or @copes9 if there are any stats you would love to see. Good luck!
