NRL SuperCoach Last Word round 6: Time to cash in cheapies

WELCOME to the abattoir. Yep, it’s time to start culling your cows. But when is the best time to sell?

NRL SuperCoach: Winners and Losers - Round Six

WELCOME to the abattoir, where we reveal the best times to cull your cows.

Plenty have peaked, plenty are about to peak and a select few loom as borderline keepers.

Full analysis below.

Latrell Mitchell ($192,900)

Price change so far: +$79,000

Projected round 6 price change: +$2,100

Break even: 24

Ownership: 61.2%

Has hit a momentary peak but has shown plenty of attacking talent and should be held at least until the eve of the byes. His stats could go through the roof when the Roosters get Mitchell Pearce, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Boyd Cordner back.

Jackson Hastings ($225,500)

Price change so far: +$92,000

Projected round 6 price change: +$40,800

Break even: -24

Ownership: 55.7%

Set for a massive $40,800 rise this week and now has the goalkicking duties full time. He has averaged 54 this year, which would be well over 60 if he kicked goals the whole season - that’s borderline keeper territory.

Jayden Nikorima ($139,100)

Price change so far: +$25,300

Projected round 6 price change: -$8,000

Break even: 39

Ownership: 17.7%

Nikorima is leaking cash following his benching. But the Matt Parcell Express has left the station, meaning no decent replacements are on offer at hooker. The best bet is to hold and hope he notches some big attacking stats (more than achievable given he played 52 minutes last week) before upgrading to Nathan Peats or Josh Hodgson for the byes. SuperCoaches could also bring him into the halves to buy a hooker gun.

Jacob Saifiti ($201,600)

Price change so far: +$87,800

Projected round 6 price change: +$23,500

Break even: -2

Ownership: 42.2%

Has one more rise to come, but will start leaking cash soon following the return of Tariq Sims. A potential sell next week for Kerrod Holland or Javid Bowen (via Ben Henry).

Pat Mata'utia has been in great form for the Knights.
Pat Mata'utia has been in great form for the Knights.

Pat Mata’utia ($243,600)

Price change so far: +$129,300

Projected round 6 price change: -$100

Break even: 52

Ownership: 41.3%

Two options. The first is to sell for Kerrod Holland or Javid Bowen at a massive profit. The second is to hold for the round 12 bye. Mata’utia is averaging almost 40 in base stats, which makes him a borderline keeper.

Ben Barba ($278,000)

Price change so far: +$93,900

Projected round 6 price change: +$17,400

Break even: 27

Ownership: 38%

Not quite a keeper and has the worst bye schedule in the comp. Needs to be sold before round 12, so use him as your ticket to James Tedesco, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Anthony Milford, Shaun Johnson etc.

Corey Oates ($271,900)

Price change so far: +$39,700

Projected round 6 price change: -$1,300

Break even: 40

Ownership: 35.9%

Has hit a momentary peak after just one price rise. But hold for the round 12 bye in the hope he misses Origin.

Paul Carter ($259,300)

Price change so far: +$94,900

Projected round 6 price change: +$11,800

Break even: 21

Ownership: 35.3%

No longer in the Rabbitohs team and misses round 12. Should be sold ASAP at a profit of almost $100,000.

NRL SuperCoach: Winners and Losers - Round Six

Ashley Taylor ($248,400)

Price change so far: +$115,100

Projected round 6 price change: +$2,100

Break even: 44

Ownership: 32.3%

Has peaked and misses round 12. Use as a ticket to a gun.

Cody Walker ($239,600)

Price change so far: +$117,000

Projected round 6 price change: +$29,400

Break even: -11

Ownership: 25.8%

Adam Reynolds is due back as early as tonight and one of Luke Keary or Walker must make way. If Walker stays in the side, he’s a borderline keeper, having averaged almost 60. If not, upgrade to a gun.

Brenton Lawrence ($199,800)

Price change so far: +$32,900

Projected round 6 price change: +$17,600

Break even: 3

Ownership: 19.5%

Making nice cash, but needs to be sold before round 12. Holland and Bowen could be options next week with the right duals.

Jordan Rankin ($217,400)

Price change so far: +$71,900

Projected round 6 price change: -$5,100

Break even: 51

Ownership: 11.1%

Has peaked for now and SuperCoaches face a tough decision – sell this week or hold for the round 12 bye. Plays the lowly Knights this week.

WINNING TIPS

“If your team is travelling nicely this is an ideal week to save two trades and wait for some of your cash cows to fatten up a little bit more. Trust me, the trades will prove invaluable later especially around the bye rounds. If your team is in struggle mode trade out the problems now and hope you can regain lost ground. You should be thinking quickly how to trade out of potential AE problems like Jayden Nikorima.”

-Mary Kaye (2015 winner)

“With the three early season cash cows in the halves still making money and with Bowen and Holland only set for a price rise next week, we have been gifted a week where we may get to save a trade or two. After a couple of poor captain choices who have scored in the 30s, I will be returning to a safer forward captain like Parker or Burgess.”

-Dave Von Kotze (2014 winner)

“With limited standout trade in targets, this may be a week to conserve trades, or potentially build a bank for future upgrades. Pat Mata’utia and Ashley Taylor are close to peaking, so may become trade bait to bring in the likes of Shaun Johnson or Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. While you need to keep one eye on the upcoming round 12 bye, there is still plenty of time for bye period trading, so no need to go early on trading in your second tier bye coverage players like Ma’u, Peats or De Belin. A lot can happen in six rounds!”

-Darren Thompson (2013 winner)

“Many SuperCoaches will be looking towards cashing out Hastings, Nikorima, Taylor and Walker in the coming weeks. Cheapie replacements in their positions are limited. Look to your DPP trades, like Cartwright from 2RF to 5/8. If you can’t find a new cow, be patient, they will come in time.”

-Matt Mullen (2009 winner)
