NRL SuperCoach 2025: The players gunning for dual position status in round 6

SuperCoach position updates are just around the corner with at least 11 players gunning for dual status, including a soon-to-be popular Gold Coast cheapie.

SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 4

Round 6 is just around the corner which means one thing for SuperCoaches - dual position updates.

The changes will flush through in the game when lockout opens after round 5, ready to be selected in their new positions for round 6.

That gives players two more games to press their claims for dual position status. The biggest winner is set to be Gold Coast cheapie prospect Jaylen De Groot, who is in line for dual CTW/FLB status.

LOCKED IN

Jazz Tevaga - HOK added to 2RF

Started three games at hooker for new club the Sea Eagles and therefore earns that position for SuperCoach.

Harry Hayes - 2RF added to CTW

The former centre has converted into a forward, where he has played all his footy in 2025 from the bench.

WATCHLIST

Sitili Tupouniua - Currently 2RF only, FRF potential

The former Rooster has played mostly as a middle this year for the Bulldogs. Even with Viliame Kikau out last week, Tupouniua stuck to a prop role with Jaeman Salmon preferred on the edge (Tupouniua was initially named on the edge but switched to the bench on game day). Assuming he sticks to this role over the next two weeks, Tupouniua will win dual status.

Verdict: Highly likely

Jaylen De Groot - Currently CTW only, FLB potential

Named at fullback this week for the Titans in place of the injured Keano Kini. Under regular DDP rules, De Groot doesn’t have enough time to notch the three starts required to win a new position. But at the end of the day, the whole idea of DPP updates is to have players available in the position they actually play, so we will apply common-sense here.

If Kini stays injured (there’s the possibility he misses the season) and De Groot holds the fullback spot, he will earn dual status for round six even though he would have only started at fullback twice. His cheapie claims will therefore soar.

Verdict: Likely

Bailey Hayward - Currently 2RF only, 5/8 potential

Played five-eighth last week and appears set to stay there while Matt Burton is injured. He’ll earn five-eighth positioning for SuperCoach if he starts there in the next two games, which appears a formality.

Verdict: Likely

Hugo Savala - Currently HFB only, 2RF potential

Savala came through the grades as a half but has played in the forwards off the bench for the Roosters. A true utility who can play literally any role (he’s a back-up hooker this week with Connor Watson out), a decision on his second position will be made right on round 6 once we know all the facts.

Verdict: Likely, but the exact position added is added is yet to be decided.

Demitric Vaimauga - Currently 2RF only, FRF potential

Playing plenty of middle for the Warriors, but has also spent time on the edge. Too early to call given limited minutes.

Verdict: Maybe

Tom Jenkins - Currently CTW only, FLB potential

Played fullback in his first game of the year but has been named at centre this week. But injury issues to Daine Laurie could see Jenkins play fullback again in round 4, meaning he’d only need to start once more in the position in round 5 to earn dual status.

Verdict: Maybe

Tom Jenkins can play multiple positions in the backline.

Jack Williams - Currently 2RF only, FRF potential

Played the opening two matches in the back row but switched to prop last week. He’ll score dual status if he stays at FRF for the next two weeks.

Verdict: Maybe

Daine Laurie – Currently FLB only, CTW potential

Named in the No. 14 for round one, Laurie ended up playing 77 minutes on the wing when Casey McLean copped a concussion. Laurie then played fullback for 20 minutes in round two when Dylan Edwards got injured and has been named there again for round four.

Verdict: Unlikely

Luke Garner - Currently 2RF only, CTW potential

Played centre in Las Vegas but has reverted to the pack in recent weeks. He needs two more games starting at centre to earn that position in SuperCoach, which seems unlikely following the emergence of Jenkins.

Verdict: Unlikely

ALREADY WON DUAL POSITION AHEAD OF ROUND 1

Luke Metcalf - HFB added to 5/8

Patrick Carrigan - FRF added to 2RF

Alexander Brimson - 5/8 added to CTW

Taine Tuaupiki - CTW added to FLB

Toby Couchman - FRF added to 2RF

NO DEAL (ie: the “we got it wrong” list)

Fletcher Sharpe - Currently CTW/FLB

While Sharpe is making a great fist of the five-eighth spot for the Knights, DPP rules dictate that we can’t add another position as players have a maximum of two positions.
