NRL SuperCoach: Six things we learned from Roosters vs Titans, Dolphins vs Broncos

One of rugby league’s best revivals wrote a new chapter as some of the competition’s big guns failed to fire a shot. Recap an intriguing Friday Night Footy with the six things we learned.

Madge breaks down the rise of Shibasaki

Friday Night Footy has been run and won with the Titans ending a long drought against the Roosters and the Broncos battled past the Dolphins.

It was an entertaining evening from a viewing perspective, but what are the key takeaways with a SuperCoach lens?

These are the six things we learned from the two games:

TEDDY NEEDS HELP

James Tedesco is doing his best to try and create opportunities and something out of nothing.

But there’s only so much he can do.

His score of 80 consisted of sheer willpower, but the centuries seem few and far between as clunkiness in the spine continues.

It’s hard to bring him into SC at this point in time.

EYES FAIL THE SC TEST

As many still look for that gun five-eighth to carry them through, a double to AJ Brimson had many assuming he was in for a huge score.

He finished with a modest 65. With two tries it doesn’t exactly scream a performance that has you rushing for the trade button.

It adds to scores of 40 and 24 for the season in a pretty rough start to the year for a potential buy.

CHEAPIE ON HOLD

All eyes were on Jaylan de Groot and if he could work his way into SuperCoach teams as a (future) dual-position cheapie.

JDG could only muster a score of 20 as he struggled to get into the game at times.

It would pay to forgive, especially given the conditions. But if you’re looking to bring him in, hold off a week and see what he can do against the Dolphins.

MADGE ENTERS BELLAMY TERRITORY

Craig Bellamy is the king of getting the best out of everyone, and Michael Maguire is doing a fantastic job of that in 2025.

The likes of Jack Gosiewski and Cory Paix have found a new lease of life this year.

Gehamat Shibasaki produced the top score of the night with 116 points. Not bad for a bloke who played just six games from 2021-2024.

The trio have seen price rises and they continue on a positive path.

DOWNWARDS TRAJECTORY

Someone not on a positive path is Ben Hunt.

1358 SuperCoaches traded out the five-eighth before the round and you’d suspect there will be plenty more after this weekend.

His scores have gone from 81 to 54 to 33, before tonight’s low of 22.

GET THE HAMMER INVOLVED

Speaking of sinking stocks, the Hammer’s fan club will take another hint after another dreadful score.

The Dolphins attack at the moment is among the worst in the league and that is hurting Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow more than anyone.

It seems to the naked eye that he is struggling to get into games. When there’s a weapon at the back like him, a SuperCoach score of 38 feels like a waste.
