NRL Live round 11, Magic Round: SuperCoach winners and losers from Sunday action

The injury to Cameron Munster dominated the news agenda on Sunday, but Addin Fonua-Blake’s lowest score of the year has many seeking answers.

The injury to Cameron Munster dominated the news agenda on Sunday.

But in Fantasy Land it was the tale of two popular cheapies Blaize Talagi (100) and Sua Fa’alogo (81), while Addin Fonua-Blake’s (34) lowest score of the year has many seeking answers.

Tom Sangster reveals the winners and losers from Sunday action.

WINNERS

* Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (90pts) - Looked brilliant for the Dolphins and will bottom out at a juicy price of around $670,000 for the upcoming round. He’s a buy for head-to-head players but not for overall players given he essentially booked his spot for Origin.

* Apisai Koroisau (75pts) - Produced a big second half, including a try, for his highest score since round 3.

* Lachlan Galvin (67pts) - Missed the big attacking stats but still produced a great score. Plenty will sell before the round 13 bye but I won’t be one of them.

* Harry Grant (112pts) - Origin must be coming. Harry fired from start to finish ... well from start until the moment he got an early shower with the game well won.

* Blaize Talagi (100pts) – His side was totally hammered but Blaize again showed just how talented he is. His side only scored 16 points but Talagi was at the centre of everything good with a try, two try assists and 18 runs.

* Dylan Edwards (100pts) - Despite missing a host of crucial goals, Edwards (100) cracked the ton for the fifth time this year, notching a try and try assist.

* Sua Fa’alogo (81pts) – The popular cheapie produced the goods with a try assist, linebreak and FOUR linebreak assists. Big price rises are to come, despite SuperCoaches going cold this week due to the injury crisis.

* Eliesa Katoa (98pts) – Another huge game from the super POD, rising high over Maika Sivo to score a try in junk time.

* Dylan Brown (68pts) - You’ll take this from DylBags in a well-beaten side.

* Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (76pts) - CNK’s move to the halves was a successful one. Despite the positional switch, he stuck to his strength - running. He made 14 runs, a very high total for a half.

* Taine Tuaupiki (84) - No wonder the Warriors were happy to shift CNK, they had a Ferrari in the garage ready for a spin in. Tuaupiki made 22 runs, scored a try and set one up.

LOSERS

* Cameron Munster (14pts) - Came off with what appeared to be a serious groin injury in a huge blow for the Storm and Queensland.

* Ryan Matterson (DNP) - Ruled out pre-game with a stomach bug.

* Addin Fonua-Blake (34pts) - Played decent game time (50 minutes) but was well-contained by the Penrith pack.

* Wayde Egan (12) - Copped an early concussion and didn’t return.

FULL-TIME: DOLPHINS 24 DEFEAT TIGERS 12

It must be Origin time because Queensland players are suddenly playing out of their skin.

First Harry Grant had a blinder against the Eels, then Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow proved he is more than recovered from a hamstring injury.

The Hammer notched two tries and a try assist to get the Dolphins home against the Tigers, who displayed some decent footy but were rocked by a double sinbinning and general poor discipline.

The Hammer is now a certainty for a centre spot for the Maroons, if he wasn’t already.

60TH MIN: DOUBLE SIN BIN ROCKS TIGERS

Just when coach Benji Marshall called for more discipline, the Tigers produced two shockers.

First Brent Naden was sin binned for a cynical shot on Jack Bostock.

Then Justin Olam copped his marching orders for 10 minutes for a hip drop.

Both players are on report.

And the double blow had the Tigers down to 11 players.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow capitalised on the understrength Tigers with a try.

The Dolphins lead 18-12.

HALF-TIME: DOLPHINS 12 LEAD TIGERS 6

* Jack Bostock (44) - Just when many SuperCoaches sold, Bostock produces a blinder. Copped an injury scare to his ankle early and a late high shot which has seen him go for HIA.

* Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (45) - If Origin selection wasn’t coming, The Hammer would be one of the most purchased players next week. With a BE of 155, he is set to bottom out nicely in the coming round and is looking in fine touch tonight.

* Jeremy Marshall-King (40) - Notched a try assist and got through his usual work. Is he the best replacement for those looking to move on Harry Grant over Origin? Probably.

* Lachlan Galvin (36) - Mixed half from the young five-eighth with a few errors but also a solid score despite not notching any big attacking stats.

* Mark Nicholls (48) - The big prop and cult hero just can’t stop scoring tries.

* Api Koroisau (22) - Continues to struggle. He’s averaged 36 over the last three rounds and needs something big to happen for that to change by much.

10TH MIN: SUPERCOACH STUDS GET BALL ROLLING FOR DOLPHINS

Jack Bostock try, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow try assist, Jamayne Isaako goal.

That’s the line many SuperCoaches were looking for to open the scoring in the final match of Magic Round.

The Dolphins lead the Tigers 6-nil.

FULL-TIME: STORM 48 DEFEAT EELS 16

The undermanned Storm have shown yet again why they are such an impressive side.

Even with Cameron Munster going down mid-game, and Jahrome Hughes (calf) and Ryan Papenhuyzen (broken leg) out, the Storm still found a way to dominate the Eels.

And Munster owners aside (he’s only owned by 10 per cent), the news is largely good for SuperCoaches with a host of popular players going well, even from the well-beaten Eels.

53RD MIN: NO MUNSTER, NO WORRIES – HARRY GRANT TAKES OVER

Blink and you’ll miss it.

The Storm have put the seemingly serious injury to Cameron Munster behind them by notching three tries in 13 minutes since the superstar left the field.

Harry Grant has been the star.

He has two tries and a try assist with the Storm surging to an unbeatable 36-10 lead.

Harry Grant scores one of two tries.

HALF-TIME: MUNSTER COPS ‘SERIOUS’ GROIN INJURY

Cameron Munster has been left reeling on the ground following what appeared to be a serious injury.

Munster suffered a groin injury while falling in the shower during pre-season and the Storm fear it’s a reoccurrence.

“The Storm’s season is on the line here,” said Braith Anasta in Fox Sports commentary.

The injury would also be a huge blow for the Maroons.

It’s 16-10 to the Storm at half-time.

30TH MIN: HORROR HEAD CLASH

Blaize Talagi and Xavier Coates have been involved in a horror head clash.

The Storm have surged to a 16-4 lead but the big moment was the impact between two young guns.

Talagi stayed on the field and scored a try just afterwards, but Coates left the field.

27TH MIN: BLAIZE TALAGI FIRES FOR SUPERCOACHES

The popular cheapie is leading the way early with a try assist propelling him to 30 points.

Hopefully you played him.

8TH MIN: GRANT MAGIC GETS STORM AHEAD

SuperCoach stud Harry Grant has an early try assist, setting up Tui Kamikamica for the first try of the game.

LATE MAIL: MATTERSON OUT FOR EELS

Ryan Matterson has been ruled out for Parramatta due to a stomach bug.

Bryce Cartwright comes into the starting side with Luca Moretti joining the bench.

The Storm have brought Tui Kamikamica into the starting side at lock with Trent Loiero dropping to the bench.

Storm: 1. Sualauvi Faalogo 2. William Warbrick 3. Reimis Smith 4. Nick Meaney 5. Xavier Coates 6. Cameron Munster 7. Tyran Wishart 8. Christian Welch 9. Harry Grant 10. Josh King 11. Shawn Blore 12. Eliesa Katoa 15. Tui Kamikamica

FULL-TIME: WARRIORS 22 DEFEAT PANTHERS 20

The under-manned and injury-hit Warriors have caused a boilover.

Dylan Edwards had a shot at penalty goal in the dying moments to send the match to extra time but it sailed wide.

Top storylines:

- Despite missing a host of crucial goals, Edwards (100) cracked the ton for the fifth time this year, notching a try and try assist.

- Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad’s (76) move to the halves was a successful one. Despite the positional switch, he stuck to his strength - running. He made 14 runs, a very high total for a half.

- No wonder the Warriors were happy to shift CNK, they had a Ferrari in the garage ready for a spin in Taine Tuaupiki (84). He made 22 runs, scored a try and set one up.

- Addin Fonua-Blake (34) played decent game time (50 minutes) but was well-contained by the Penrith pack.

- Wayde Egan (12) copped an early concussion and didn’t return.

70TH MIN: WARRIORS SET FOR BOILOVER

We are set for a nailbiter.

Taine Tuaupiki has crossed for the first try of his NRL career to put the Warriors ahead 22-20.

The young Warriors fullback is in the midst of a brilliant game with 21 runs, two linebreaks and a try.

66TH MIN: EDWARDS GETS LAST TOUCH FOR CRUCIAL TRY

The Panthers are ahead 20-16 with Izack Tago crossing.

Dylan Edwards, the most popular SuperCoach captain of the round, provided the last touch.

56TH MIN: YEO MAKES UP FOR MOMENT OF MADNESS

Isaah Yeo has crossed for the Panthers just moments after coming back on the field from a rare sin bin.

It’s 16-all and we are set for a thriller.

48TH MIN: YEO SIN BIN COSTS ANOTHER TRY

The Warriors are running downhill, crossing for a second try while Issah Yeo is in the sin bin.

Adam Pompey crashed over from a Te Maire Martin short-ball and the Warriors have the lead 16-10.

43RD MIN: WARRIORS CAPITALISE ON YEO SIN BIN

You don’t see that every day. Well, you haven’t seen it in nine years to be exact.

Yes, that was the last time Isaah Yeo was sinbinned.

Yeo got in the way of Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad as he took a quick tap and the referees had no option but to give the Penrith nice-guy his marching orders.

The Warriors scored from the next set through Ali Leiataua (who is a definite cheapie to keep an eye on) and have levelled the scores at 10-all.

The Panthers are rattled.

Isaah Yeo sent to the sin bin.

41ST MIN: SMITH CLEARED TO RETURN

Good news for the Panthers.

Lindsay Smith was trapped up over half-time and will return.

HALF-TIME: PANTHERS 10, WARRIORS 6

Plenty of big talking points here:

- Jarome Luai (62) scored a late try befitting of the moniker Magic Round as he makes a late bid for NSW Origin selection.

- Injuries are the story of the half and here’s the latest: Wayde Egan (concussion) won’t return. Warriors pair Marcelo Montoya and Jackson Ford both passed HIAs and have returned. Still no word on Panthers prop Lindsay Smith, who limped off late in the half.

- Dylan Edwards (57) is doing a great job for the 15 per cent of SuperCoaches who captained him, scoring an early try and being in everything, as usual.

- Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (55) is making a great fist of his move to the halves, setting up the Warriors’ only try.

- Addin Fonua-Blake (25) didn’t have his usual impact against the well-drilled Panthers.

Half-time points: Warriors v Panthers.

30TH MIN: INJURY CARNAGE CONTINUES

Lindsay Smith has limped off for the Panthers.

He’s the fourth player injured (more below) in just 30 minutes of Sunday Magic Round action.

23RD MIN: ANOTHER INJURY BLOW FOR WAHS

Marcelo Montoya has left the field after being injured in the act of scoring a try.

The Warriors winger crossed in the corner to get the Warriors back to 4-all.

But he appeared to injure his shoulder or elbow as he touched down, although technically he’s been taken off for a HIA after his head also hit the ground heavily.

Wayde Egan won’t return due to concussion, but Jackson Ford has cleared his HIA.

Wayde Egan down with concussion.
Wayde Egan down with concussion.

13TH MIN: EGAN RULED OUT WITH CONCUSSION

It’s been a rough start for the Warriors with Wayde Egan and Jackson Ford both off for HIAs.

Egan has been deemed a category one and won’t return.

He has been mentioned as an Origin smokey in some quarters.

2ND MIN: EDWARDS FIRES EARLY AS MOST POPULAR CAPTAIN

It’s taken just over a minute for Dylan Edwards to make his mark, crossing for the opening try against the Warriors to start Sunday action at Magic Round.

Edwards has been captained by almost 15 per cent of SuperCoaches, making him the most popular C in the game.

Unfortunately he duffed the conversion attempt but he’s still shot out to 31 points.

LATE MAIL

Both the Panthers and Warriors have been forced into big changes.

For the Panthers, Taylan May (stood down) is replaced at centre by Paul Alamoti.

Moses Leota goes back to the bench with Lindsay Smith starting at prop

Tyrone Peachey and Scott Sorensen come onto the bench for Daine Laurie and Mavrik Geyer, who is 18th man.

At the Warriors, Tohu Harris (hand) is out with Dylan Walker to start at lock and Paul Roache coming onto the bench.

Warriors: 1. Taine Tuaupiki 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 3. Ali Leiataua 4. Adam Pompey 5. Marcelo Montoya 6. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 7. Te Maire Martin 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Wayde Egan 10. Bunty Afoa 11. Jackson Ford 12. Mitchell Barnett 14. Dylan Walker

EARLIER....

It’s a massive Sunday of NRL action as Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium hosts a Magic Round triple header.

The storylines are plentiful but SuperCoaches are sure to have their eyes on Dylan Edwards, hoping he goes well enough to earn a big SuperCoach score but not well enough to earn a NSW Origin jersey!

The Storm v Eels clash is a shootout of the cheapies in Blaize Talagi and Sua Faalogo.

1.50pm: WARRIORS V PANTHERS

Player To Watch

Dylan Edwards - The Penrith fullback just keeps on keeping on and has the most points of any fullback eligible player. The injury to Nathan Cleary means he will retain the goalkicking duties for the foreseeable too. In my opinion he should be running out in the fullback jersey for the Blues, and that’s why I can’t recommend him as a buy. Don’t let that put you off though, my record of tipping the NSW selections is rubbish.

Key outs

Shaun Johnson, Nathan Cleary, Roger Tuivasa-Scheck - The Warriors have confirmed Johnson will miss the next three weeks (11, 12 and the bye) and return in round 14. It’s better news than expected but he’s still a sell. Nathan Cleary (hamstring, round 19) and Roger Tuivasa-Scheck (hamstring, round 17) are also out long-term and definite sells.

4.05pm: STORM V EELS

Players To Watch

Blaize Talagi - Nineteen runs, three linebreaks and a try helped Talagi to a bumper 93 points against the Broncos and hopefully for those who held him should be enough to engender some decent job security. An undoubtedly tough matchup this week (Storm) then Souths into Sharks so it’s not the greatest draw, but the Eels do cover the tough rounds 13 and 14 and with any luck Talagi will have added around $150K to his value leading into round 15 when he profiles as a sell.

Sua Faalogo - Just 35 points from 80 minutes is not what was expected from the Storm excitement machine. Melbourne’s attack was contained by the Sharks and I expect he’ll have a much more fruitful outing against Parramatta at Suncorp. The poor score last week means you can wait another week on Faalogo this week if you like. His BE is 30 so while he’ll likely make money it should not be a fortune.

6.25pm: TIGERS V DOLPHINS

Key outs

Trai Fuller - Popular cheapie axed by the Dolphins to accommodate the return of Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (hamstring). That said, SuperCoaches have achieved a great result on Fuller, who has made $224,900 in two weeks. With a BE of 21, the price rises are essentially over so a sell makes sense, but he could also be handy for the byes if Hammer makes the Queensland squad.

Max Plath - The popular Dolphin is out for a week due to concussion. But he’s a hold for most given round 13 coverage and the carnage elsewhere this week.
