KFC SuperCoach NRL 2021: Teams analysis Round 11

He’s the fifth most purchased player this week but Tom Sangster is calling TRAP! Full teams analysis here.

KFC SuperCoach NRL: Round 11 Winners & Losers

WINNERS

* Nicho Hynes – Most purchased player this week after a massive 182. Hynes has averaged 111 since being brought into the starting side. With Cameron Munster (foot) and Ryan Papenhuyzen (concussion) still injured, Hynes at the very least should play the next few weeks before covering the Round 13 bye and KFC SuperCoach Plus predicts he’ll make $123,000 in that time. The price tag of almost $600,000 is hefty though.

* James Tedesco – Named despite a head knock last week. The KFC SuperCoach great is the second most purchased player this week at a $317,700 discount on his starting price. Returned to form emphatically last week with 131, but he is only a real option for head-to-head players given the looming Origin series.

* Kurt Capewell – Confirmed to return from a head knock for the Panthers after missing last week. He’s a sell before Origin but offers crucial coverage for almost a quarter of KFC SuperCoaches on a tough week.

* Latrell Mitchell – Returns from a four-week suspension for the Rabbitohs. Still has the seventh best average of any player this year.

* Javid Bowen – Most popular cheapie this week by a big distance and sixth most popular player overall after setting up a projected $51,200 price rise. Doesn’t cover Round 13 and job security is questionable with Justin O’Neill (knee, round 11-13) and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (leg, round 14) due back soon.

LOSERS

* Ryan Papenhuyzen – Only just back from a shoulder injury and now ruled for at least another week – maybe two – due to concussion. With Origin selection likely, Pap is the most sold player this week.

* Josh Curran – A succession of blows for one of the better cheapies we’ve seen this year. Curran was benched pre-game then suffered an elbow injury. With no Round 13 coverage and BE of 21, Curran is the seventh most sold player.

* Josh Papalii – Fourth most popular sell after copping a three week suspension. With Origin looming he was a sell anyway, this just accelerates the process.

COWBOYS

TEAMS COMMENT: Coen Hess (concussion) is unavailable due to the five-day turnaround. Tom Gilbert takes his place in the back row with Heilum Luki to debut off the bench.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Jason Taumalolo hardly set the world on fire last week but the signs are positive, playing 64 minutes on the back of 71 the week before (a huge increase on 47 minutes per game prior). He also went within in whisker of scoring a try. KFC SuperCoach Plus predicts he’ll drop almost to $500,000 for Round 14, when he’ll be one of the most purchased guns alongside Tohu Harris. See Javid Bowen analysis above.

KNIGHTS

TEAMS COMMENT: Just the one change with Hymel Hunt (hamstring) replaced on the wing by Brayden Musgrove, who returns from a rib injury. But there could be game-day alterations with Blake Green (ribs) named on an extended bench. Kalyn Ponga (groin) remains sidelined. Sauaso Sue and Jacob Saifiti both passed game day HIAs but will be monitored.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Mitch Barnett’s role has totally changed, going from an 80 minute edge player to a 50 minute middle. Even so, the base output isn’t drastically different and he’s a definite hold for the Round 13 bye, where he should see big minutes. Then move on to Taumalolo or Harris in Round 14. He’s also a massive chance at reclaiming the kicking duties from Tex Hoy, who missed a bunch of sitters on the weekend. Jayden Brailey is basically neck-and-neck with Reed Mahoney as the topscoring hooker this year. Connor Watson is third, so the Knights are definitely dominating the position. Bradman Best is predicted to dip into the $300,000s just in time for Round 13 — an absolute bargain at that price.

WARRIORS

TEAMS COMMENT: Josh Curran (elbow) is out and expected to miss 2-4 weeks and Bayley Sironen (knee) was not considered for selection which sees Jack Murchie start on an edge. Changes in the backline with Marcelo Montoya coming in for Rocco Berry (concussion).

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Reece Walsh notched a ton on the weekend despite playing off the bench, leading to a massive $129,900 price rise with another $65,900 predicted this week. Well done to those who took the plunge. Tohu Harris continues to be one of the safest — if not the safest — pick in KFC SuperCoach, averaging 80 for the year including 59 in pure base. Clear the decks for Round 14. See Josh Curran analysis above

WESTS TIGERS

TEAMS COMMENT: No changes after a big win, with Adam Doueihi remaining at centre and Moses Mbye at five-eighth after a successful switch last week.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Plenty of KFC SuperCoaches were scared off Adam Doueihi last week when switched to centre. But the move barely seemed to matter in notching 114. He has the best average of any five-eighth this year at 79.1 but is in just 3.5 per cent of teams, with Round 13 coverage to boot. Rob Sutherland’s great cheapie hope Shawn Blore only scored 14 in 23 minutes. Delete from Round 13 contention for now. David Nofoaluma isn’t quite in 2020 mode but still a very handy buy for Round 13 coverage. Daine Laurie is the third most sold player after seemingly peaking at a $255,000 rise (BE 109). But Sangster’s Paradise will hold for Round 13 coverage.

SHARKS

TEAMS COMMENT: No changes to the 17 but Shaun Johnson (hamstring) has been named on the extended bench and is considered a strong chance to play. He must pass a final fitness test. Andrew Fifita only lasted 19 minutes against the Rabbitohs last week due to a hamstring issue. He has been named and is rated a 50/50 chance. Billy Magoulias is the likely replacement if Fifita’s fitness bid falls short. Ronaldo Mulitalo (knee) will sit out another week, while Sione Katoa (knee) could miss another fortnight.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Nothing doing. No player over 11 per cent ownership, no player averaging above 63 and no Round 13 coverage. Keep Shaun Johnson up the sleeve for Rounds 14-17 but he’s hardly a priority at this stage.

DRAGONS

TEAMS COMMENT: Complete overhaul with Josh McGuire (five weeks), Tyrell Fuimaono (five weeks), Mikaele Ravalawa (two weeks) and Tariq Sims (one week) all suspended, while fullback Matt Dufty (shoulder) is looking at an extended period on the sideline. Cody Ramsey shifts from wing to fullback to replace Dufty with Jordan Pereira (suspension) returning on the wing. Max Feagai is the other winger in place of Ravalawa. Billy Burns comes into the centres for Fuimaono while the new back-rowers are Jackson Ford and Poasa Faamausili. Jaiyden Hunt (debut), Junior Amone, Kaide Ellis and Daniel Alvaro join the bench. This week’s recruit Gerard Beale has been named on an extended bench.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Very little KFC SuperCoach relevance despite covering the Round 13 bye. Shout out to Tyrrell Fuimaono’s -8, which has to be one of the worst SC scores in history. Given the injury/suspension crisis at the Dragons, keep Max Feagai on the radar as a Round 13 bargain option, but there is no need to move quickly given his BE has ballooned to 41 after playing off the bench last week.

TITANS

TEAMS COMMENT: Herman Ese’ese (three weeks) and Tyrone Peachey (two weeks) are both out suspended. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui shifts from prop to lock to replace Peachey with Moeaki Fotuaika coming into the starting side at prop. Sam Stone and Erin Clark come into the 17 on the bench. Ash Taylor (hip) is lurking on the reserves list and could come in for Tanah Boyd.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: David Fifita is the third most sold player as KFC SuperCoaches finally get around to punting him after last week’s suspension. He’s guaranteed to miss three of the next seven rounds – and that’s not even taking into account backing up from Origin. Tyrone Peachey’s two-week suspension is a big blow for those who got on as a POD a few weeks back, but thankfully he’ll be back for the Round 13 bye.

BULLDOGS

TEAMS COMMENT: Tui Katoa (concussion) is out after copping Josh Papalii’s shoulder, for which the Origin star was sent off. Debutant Aaron Schoupp comes into the starting side at centre with Nick Meaney moving to the wing. Dylan Napa (shoulder) returns on the bench for Ofahiki Ogden. Adam Elliott (knock), Corey Waddell (knee) and Ogden (head knock) will need to be checked. Josh Jackson (calf) and Jeremy Marshall-King (foot) have been saved another week.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Luke Thompson is the ninth most purchased player this week. He’s averaging a very handy 68.2, including 57 in base, which is Tohu Harris areas. But he doesn’t cover Round 13 and is therefore more of an option from Rounds 14-17.

ROOSTERS

TEAMS COMMENT: For once this season the Roosters came out of a game with no major injuries, just a few bumps and bruises with Daniel Tupou (ankle), Angus Crichton (head knock) and Sam Walker (shoulder) all set to play with no changes to the 17. Sitili Tupouniua and Crichton are free to play after copping fines from the match review committee.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Siosiua Taukeiaho is the fifth most sold player as the Roosters nurse him through the season. His minutes are completely random and he’s lost the goalkicking to Sam Walker. Surely bigger game time is on the way and he’s lost so much cash it’s barely worth selling, but he probably does need to go before Round 13. Sam Walker has peaked for now (BE 133) after a massive $455,000 in price rises. With rumours of imminent resting, he could easily be sold this week for a Mitchell Moses, Jahrome Hughes or Jarome Luai type, but it’s tempting to hold for this week’s dream match-up against the Broncos. See James Tedesco analysis above. Owners shouldn’t think twice about locking him in as captain this week against Brisbane at his favourite SCG.

BRONCOS

TEAMS COMMENT: The Broncos have named their fifth halves combination in 11 games with Albert Kelly to make his Brisbane debut, his first NRL appearance in six years. The 30-year-old playmaker trained in the halves, alongside Tyson Gamble, on Tuesday morning with million-dollar man Anthony Milford dropped to the reserves squad. Kelly has been in red hot form for his Intrust Super Cup side Souths Logan Magpies this year — scoring four tries, setting up 12 others and making 25 tackle busts across six games. Karmichael Hunt was poised to make his NRL return this week but injured his knee in the Intrust Super Cup. Keenan Palasia will make his NRL debut in the starting pack in place of Jordan Riki, while hooker Kobe Hetherington has been named to make his NRL debut off the bench in place of Danny Levi. Meanwhile, David Mead comes onto the wing in place of Corey Oates.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Tyson Gamble was by far the most popular player last week but promptly banged out just eight points, which included -22 points for infringements and errors. With a break even of 20, the price rises appear all but over for now, but he’s a crucial number for Round 13. Herbie Farnworth, 60, is averaging 53.8PPG for the Broncos with only one try for the year. He had 39 in base stats this week and 44 the week before, that’s getting close to Brian To’o levels of workrate. Full Farnworth analysis by The Mastermind here. I don’t want to steal Copes’ thunder but Thomas Flegler looms as a very temping borderline cheapie to cover Round 13.

RAIDERS

TEAMS COMMENT: Hit hard by suspension with Josh Papalii (three games), Jack Wighton (one game) and Josh Hodgson (one game) all out. Sam Williams replaces Wighton at five-eighth. Debutant halfback Brad Schneider has been named on the bench to replace Hodgson. Papalii is replaced at prop by Dunamis Lui with Ryan Sutton (elbow) joining the bench. Corey Harawira-Naera suffered a head clash in final minutes on weekend and could be in some doubt while Corey Horsburgh should be fit to play after suffering what looked to be sternum injury, only to go off under HIA which he passed. Jarrod Croker continues to be unavailable due to shoulder and knee injuries.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Caleb Aekins is one of the biggest missed cheapies of the season. Coming off 87 last week, the former Panther is predicted to peak at $170,000 price rise just before a Round 13 sell, but is only owned by two per cent. Corey Harawira-Naera is at a very handy price for a man averaging 56, especially given season averages of 60 and 59 in the past, although he doesn’t cover Round 13. Bailey Simonsson is the eighth most sold player as KFC SuperCoaches prepare for the upcoming bye, having made only $64,300. See Josh Papalii analysis above. Here’s hoping Papalii’s suspension increases the output of popular KFC SuperCoach player Ryan James, who has averaged just 29 minutes in the last three rounds.

STORM

TEAMS COMMENT: Ryan Papenhuyzen (concussion) is out which sees Nicho Hynes play fullback. Chris Lewis is a shock choice to partner Jahrome Hughes in the halves, but keep an eye on late mail. Tyson Smoothy (knee) is missing due to a knee injury but that is offset by Brandon Smith returning from suspension at hooker. Harry Grant (hamstring) and Cameron Munster (foot) remain sidelined for at least another week.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Cameron Munster is the ninth most sold player following last week’s foot injury, plus upcoming Origin series. Jahrome Hughes is definitely on the Sangster’s Paradise radar as a Round 13 coverage option from Sam Walker. See Nicho Hynes and Ryan Papenhuyzen analysis above.

KFC SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell trade guide for Round 11

RABBITOHS

TEAMS COMMENT: The Rabbitohs have a massive inclusion with Latrell Mitchell (suspension) returning at fullback. This allows Cody Walker to move back to his preferred five-eighth position with Benji Marshall dropping to the bench. Josh Mansour (hamstring) returns on the wing for Taane Milne.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: With Latrell Mitchell back, Cody Walker returns to his favoured five-eighth position. That said, he faces a very tough match-up against the Panthers, who concede the least KFC SuperCoach points to five-eighths (and just about every position for that matter). Damien Cook, 64, has shown hints of his running game returning and is the cheapest he’s been since 2018. A definite option at the price for head-to-head players. See Latrell Mitchell analysis above.

PANTHERS

TEAMS COMMENT: Welcome back Kurt Capewell after he missed Magic Round to due concussion with Liam Martin moving back to the bench and J’maine Hopgood dropping out of the 17. Stephen Crichton (ribs) and Moses Leota (shoulder) will need to be checked after suffering minor injuries on Sunday night. Tyrone May also suffered a head knock and could be in some doubt. Moses Leota and Dylan Edwards escaped with fines and will take their places.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Nathan Cleary is the proud new owner of the all-time KFC SuperCoach scoring record, notching 225 last week against the Titans. It’s a tougher match-up this week against the Rabbitohs, but he’s still a captaincy option every round, having not scored below 69 this season. James Fisher-Harris is the third most purchased player as KFC SuperCoaches prepare for the Round 13 bye. The average game time of 51 minutes is hardly exciting (his lowest total in four years). But that is offset by a pure base of 51, which is elite for an FRF available player, while the dual position flexibility is crucial. See Kurt Capewell analysis above.

EELS

TEAMS COMMENT: Joey Lussick comes onto the bench for Ray Stone in the only change. The Eels have a few players with bumps and bruises but all should overcome them with Clint Gutherson (ankle), Mitch Moses (calf), Blake Ferguson (leg) and Tom Opacic (cork) all expected to play.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Mitchell Moses is a hugely underrated POD, only owned by six per cent. After a slowish start, he’s averaged 75.6 over the last five weeks and has a decent run coming up including games against the Knights, Tigers and Bulldogs. Ryan Matterson is ripe this week, available at a discount of $80,000 on his starting price due to concussion-affected games. He’s a near-must before the Round 13 bye and the third most popular purchase this week. Exactly 21,604 KFC SuperCoaches have their fingers crossed King Gutho misses Origin selection and therefore covers Round 13.

SEA EAGLES

TEAMS COMMENT: Without Kieran Foran after he suffered a broken hand in Magic Round. This sees Cade Cust come into the five-eighth hot seat but don’t be surprised if Josh Schuster takes the spot on game day.

KFC SUPERCOACH ANALYSIS: Tom Trbojevic (122.4) has the highest average of any player this year, 12 ahead of Nathan Cleary and 20 ahead of the rest of the pack. However, the Eels sit equal third for restricting KFC SuperCoach points to fullbacks, so Turbo’s far from an automatic captain this week. After 10 tries in six weeks, KFC SuperCoach Plus predicts Jason Saab to peak at a $300,000 price rise just in time for his Round 13 bye.
