ROB SUTHERLAND

Daine Laurie OUT Nicho Hynes IN

This is more than a cash grab, though I expect Hynes to generate a fair bit of that, it’s a points play too. Hynes is locked in at fullback for a match against the depleted Raiders and I’m expecting the man who banged out 182 points last week to once again score 100+.

Yes he is expensive at $582K and yes he is not the same incredible value he was a month ago when you could get him for just $300K but with a BE of -65, a score of 110 points against the Raiders (high but highly achievable and see my arguments as to why HERE) would see Hynes increase in price by roughly $120K.

Now there’s a chance both Papenhuyzen and Munster return for Round 12 against the Broncos pushing Hynes to the bench, there’s also a strong chance the Storm rest one or both of their stars who will then be soon required for Origin duty.

Even if Hynes does go to the bench against the Broncos I’m confident Storm coach Craig Bellamy would find a way to play a guy in this form for plenty of time. But let’s be conservative, and say Hynes scores just 30 points against the Broncos.

Well the week after Munster and Papenhuyzen will be unavailable due to Origin and Hynes is locked in to start at fullback again — this time against the Titans — at AAMI Park. I’ll play conservative again and say Hynes scores ‘just’ 80 points in that game.

Plug those numbers into the calculator and Hynes finishes Round 13 priced at $715K or $130K more than I pay for him this week. And he’s averaged 73PPG.

Losing Laurie is not ideal, he was a guy I had pencilled in for Round 13 and he’s averaging 57PPG. But Laurie’s price has peaked, Hynes’ has not and so the axe shall swing.

Josh Curran OUT, Victor Radley IN

This one is risky, but at this stage of the season it’s a risk I’m prepared to take. Curran was looking like the rarest of rare KFC SuperCoach beauties — a cheapie forward with a big base and a nose for the line. But the elbow injury Curran picked up in Round 10 means the Warriors workhorse is facing 2-4 weeks on the sideline so I’m pulling the trade trigger.

Radley’s 2020 season ended in Round 7 when he tore his ACL. A long stint of rehab meant he did not return until round four this year. In the six full games he has played since (excluding his Round 9 nine minute HIA limited effort) Radley has averaged 44PPG in 61MPG. I’ll concede those aren’t exactly ‘burn your valuable trade’ numbers. But, to my tightly-attuned Rooster eye, Radley is just now starting to look like the Radley of old.

His match fitness is up, he is taking on a more significant playmaking role and in his last two full games he has recorded three linebreaks, two try contributions and a try assist. Priced at just $350K Radley is a DPP (HOK/2RF) asset with upside. Yes there’ll be games where ‘The Inflictor’ scores just 45 points, but I’m counting on more than a fair smattering of 80+ performances too. It’s a bit of a swing for the fences, and not one I advise you join me on, but if it comes off I’ll finally have a good KFC SuperCoach story to tell in what has been a tough 2021 for the Belalie Beasts.

TOM SANGSTER

Sam Walker OUT, Mitchell Moses IN

Walker has peaked for now (BE 133) after a massive $455,000 in price rises. It’s very tempting to hold for this week’s clash against the Broncos where he could run up a cricket score at the SCG.

But equally, he looks busted at stages and the rumours of future resting are deafening, so logic says it’s time to cash in for Jarome Luai, Jahrome Hughes or Mitchell Moses. Mail is very strong around the office that Luai will score an Origin gig so I’m steering clear.

Hughes costs a massive $714,400, the eighth most expensive player in the game, and I just can’t justify the price. Meanwhile, Moses is a hugely underrated POD, only owned by six per cent.

After a slowish start, he’s averaged 75.6 over the last five weeks and has a decent run coming up including games against the Knights, Tigers and Bulldogs.

Sio Siua Taukeiaho OUT, James Fisher-Harris IN

TKO is being nursed through the season. A recent rib problem is likely a factor, and even prior Trent Robinson clearly appeared to be saving him for big games. In fact, his only big minute games this year have been against Souths (fourth on ladder and a traditional derby), Parramatta (second) and the Warrrios in Round 4 when the Roosters were depleted pre-game and then lost Sitili Tupouniua after 12 minutes due to concussion.

He has also lost the goalkicking duties to Sam Walker. None of this is good news for KFC SuperCoach, and with no Round 13 coverage he needs to be sold ASAP. Fisher-Harris is hardly the most sexy buy, but still the third most purchased player this week as KFC SuperCoaches prepare for the Round 13 bye.

The average game time of 51 minutes is not exciting (his lowest total in four years). But that is offset by a pure base of 51, which is elite for an FRF available player, while the dual position flexibility is crucial.
