KFC NRL SuperCoach 2022 Round 3 wrap: High, lows and trade targets

SuperCoach Mastermind crunches the stats to help you find the best trade targets ahead of Round Four. ANALYSIS FOR EVERY GAME

Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray, 129, top scored for the round and season so far with one of the best individual performances you’ll see from a forward in the NRL and SuperCoach, but that one has been brushed aside.

20,000 KFC SuperCoaches traded in Nicho Hynes, 124, who is no doubt their new locked in captain for the season ahead.

Hynes went from 18% owned to 33% owned in one round with 12% of owners captaining him and another 12% giving him the VC either way they rolled in the glory of 124 points as Hynes and the Sharks put the Dragons to the sword.

The bulk of the new Hynes owners came from the Tom Trbojevic traders. With 6.5% of coaches cashing in those Turbo dollars to shake up their squads ahead of the first price rise.

Viliame Kikau and Peta Hiku were the next most traded in but both put up disappointing scores for new owners after a quick cash grab.

My trades for the week saw Cameron Munster, 121, come in for Cody Walker and Taylan May, 107, come in for the injured Sean Russell and both posted centuries.

We had 10 players in total crack 100 with points starting to flow after a slow start to the season. Hopefully you had more than a few of these players in your squad:

Murray, 129, Hynes, 124, Munster, 121, Thomas Dearden, 109, Ryan Papenhuyzen, 107, Valentine Holmes, 106, Taylan May, 106, Brandon Smith, 102, Dylan Brown, 100 and Jeremiah Nanai, 100.

Here are the players of the week and scroll on down for my breakdown of each game’s highs, lows and players to watch.

Dragons 12-36 Sharks

Highs: Hynes, 124, again notched points in just about every category for his second consecutive century. He had a try, linebreak, try assist, try contribution, 6/7 goals, three tackle busts, two offloads, one linebreak assist and 28 in base stats. You need only compare the stat of his halves partner Matt Moylan below to see how dominant Hynes is in this Sharks team. Matt Ikuvalu, 89, had 22 hit-ups, nine tackle busts, two linebreaks, a try and an intercept. He averaged 62PPG scoring 12 tries in 13 games for the Roosters last season and could be a serious POD move with his workrate and try scoring ability. Sione Katoa, 78, scored a try for the second week in a row and had seven tackle busts and three linebreaks. Jesse Ramien, 75, scored a try, had a try assist, pumped out five offloads and was also sin binned with seven minutes to go.

Lows: Cody Ramsey, 9, had 10 hit-ups but just four of them were over 8m. He also missed four tackles and made three errors. Talatau Amone, 17, made 16 tackles but had just four hit-ups. A real worry seeing him go to hooker in attack for the last 18 minutes. Tyrell Sloan, 26, didn’t have a single attacking stat. Jaydn Su’A, 29, was sin binned for the second week in a row and faces a suspension. Andrew Fifita, 15, was sin binned in the final minutes. Matt Moylan, 11, missed eight tackles and conceded two penalties. Braydon Trindall, 2, played just 13 minutes off the bench.

Watchlist: Jack Bird, 66, was impressive in the opening stages scoring a try and having four tackle busts in 62 minutes on the left edge. He switched to five-eighth with 18 minutes to go and didn’t notch many more points. Owners need to be aware his versatility means it will be an ongoing issue while the Dragons carry a four-forward bench. Zac Lomax, 65, had 34 in base stats, 2/2 goals and seven tackle busts. He’s scoring very solidly without going large yet. Blayke Brailey, 65, backed up early round scores of 73 and 71 to make him the top point scoring hooker after three rounds. Siosifa Talakai, 66, had a try, try assist and 33 in base stats but with Teig Wilton back from suspension this week, he’ll likely be back to the bench. Cameron McInnes, 34, played 51 minutes and made 29 tackles, while seven of his eight hit-ups were under 8m.

Tigers 12-16 Warriors

Highs: James Tamou, 70, had a try, linebreak and 40 in base stats. The fact James Tamou is the top scorer should tell you enough about the quality of the game. Jock Madden, 63, had two try assists coming into the Tigers team for the suspended Jackson Hastings. Luke Brooks 62, had two linebreak assists, and kicked 2/2 goals. Euan Aitken, 61, scooped up a loose ball off a bomb to score a try on top of 45 in base stats. Oliver Gildart, 60, had two linebreaks and six tackle busts.

Lows: Stefano Utoikamanu, 30, played just 30 minutes and is set to be out for a couple months in a blow for the 12% of teams that own him. Eliesa Katoa, 20, played just 21 minutes before going off injured. Marcelo Montoya, 23, was sin binned. Daine Laurie, 27 had three errors.

Watchlist: Alex Seyfarth, 56, took the place of injured cheapie Kelma Tuilagi on the left edge for the Tigers and had 54 in base stats along with three tackle busts.

Rabbitohs 28-16 Roosters

Highs: Cameron Murray, 129, had 64 in base stats, a try, linebreak and two try assists in 77 minutes. Keaon Koloamatangi, 86, had 55 in base stats along with a try and linebreak. Damien Cook, 75, had 50 in base stats with a try and linebreak assist. Joseph Manu, 75, had plenty to play for after being badly injured when the teams last met and delivered a try, try assist, linebreak and five tackle busts.

Lows: Angus Crichton, 34, played just 36 minutes. Campbell Graham, 30, missed six tackles. Luke Keary, 19, missed out on the attacking stats.

Watchlist: James Tedesco, 64, had three errors. Jai Arrow, 61, had 59 in base stats in 56 minutes, dropping from 72 and 76 minutes in the opening rounds. Nat Butcher, 59, played the full 80 minutes taking Crichton’s spot. Cody Walker, 59, had a try, linebreak and six tackle busts but no points for try or linebreak assists where he picked up the bulk of his points last year. Lindsay Collins, 57, was all base stats in 44 minutes. Latrell Mitchell, 53, had a try, 4/5 goals but just 18 in base stats. Sam Walker, 41, was a little underwhelming but the Roosters have a very nice draw for the next six weeks.

Panthers 38-20 Knights

Highs: The Panthers’ young duo had a field day on the left edge with Taylan May, 106, and Izaack Tago, 94, topping the scoring. May had three tries, a try assist, linebreak and six tackle busts. Tago had two tries, a try assist, linebreak and four tackle busts. Kurt Mann, 86, had 49 in base stats and notched stats across a stack of categories.

Lows: Mitch Barnett, -3, was sent off for elbowing Chris Smith, 22. Jirah Momoisea, 4, played just 5 minutes, even with Barnett sent off. Chris Randall, 27, needs an attacking stat to jolt some price rises. Jake Clifford, 31, predictably had a tough time against the reigning premiers. He missed six tackles and missed two goals. Villiame Kikau, 31, and Api Korisau, 32, missed out on the big attacking plays after being in the thick of it for the first two rounds.

Watchlist: Knights centres, both under 3% owned, Bradman Best, 69, and Dane Gagai, 60, are both pumping out mid 30s in base stats and have picked up big attacking plays every week so far.

Storm 24-28 Eels

Highs: Cameron Munster, 121, had 46 in base stats in an incredibly busy game. His running and passing game were on song with a try assist, three try contributions, nine tackle busts, a linebreak and three linebreak assists. Ryan Papenhuyzen, 107, combined fantastically well with Munster, producing a try, two linebreaks, 4/4 goals, eight tackle busts and 38 in base stats. Brandon Smith, 102, made a surprisingly early return from injury with Melbourne desperate for a hooker after losing Harry Grant and Tyson Wishart to Covid for the week. Smith had a try, try assist, six tackle busts, two linebreaks and 50 in base stats in 77 minutes. That century will help negate any massive cash losses from his opening round score of 1. Dylan Brown, 100, is sure enjoying the return to the left side of the Eels attack with 42 in base stats, two try assists, a linebreak and seven tackle busts. Isaiah Papali’i, 94, had 68 in base stats, five tackle busts, two offloads and a linebreak. After solid efforts in the opening rounds this was a return to his breakout form of 2021.

Lows: Bailey Simonsson, 19, played just 56 minutes. Will Penisini, 21, didn’t see much ball. Reed Mahoney, 39, has started well off the pace of his rivals in the position.

Watchlist: Josh King, 85, had 50 in base stats, and surprised plenty with a try assist and two linebreak assists. This big score will lock in some healthy price rises. Nathan Brown, 64, was all base stats in 66 minutes. Jahrome Hughes, 44, had a sub 50 game for the second week in a row. Has taken a backseat with Munster firing.

Raiders 24-22 Titans

Highs: Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, 89, had 54 in base stats, a try, linebreak and five tackle busts. Beau Fermor, 89, scored a try for the second week in a row and also picked up a try assist and a linebreak. Set for some nice price rises. Jordan Rapana, 88, was heavily involved in his first game of the season with two try assists, two linebreak assists, five tackle busts and three offloads. Brad Schneider, 79, is set for some great price rises after producing 33 in base stats, two try assists, a linebreak and 2/5 goals. Matt Timoko, 77, had two tries and seven tackle busts, bouncing back from a score of 18 last week. David Fifita, 72, played 80 minutes and had 49 in base stats with two linebreaks and five tackle busts.

Lows: Kevin Proctor, 20, has well and truly fallen out of the starting team. Patrick Herbert, 15, had six missed tackles. Matt Frawley, 19, was a surprise inclusion in the starting team but played just 25 minutes.

Watchlist: Tom Starling, 70, played 55 minutes, replacing Frawley and playing out the game with a try assist, five tackle busts, two offloads and a linebreak. Moeaki Fotuaika, 70, had 56 in base stats and a few tackle busts. Phillip Sami, 59, has four tries in the opening three games.

Broncos 12-38 Cowboys

Highs: Thomas Dearden, 109, saved a career best SuperCoach score for his old club. Dearden had a try, linebreak and three try assists. He’s the top scoring 5/8 after three rounds, which is a surprise to say. Valentine Holmes, 106, had a try, two linebreaks, seven tackle busts, kicked 7/7 goals and boosted his involvement with 18 hit-ups. Jeremiah Nanai, 100, scored three tries all from kicks, with 41 in base stats. Herbie Farnworth, 77 scored two ties for the second consecutive week.

Lows: Coen Hess, 8, and Jordan Riki, 11, went off injured. Peta Hiku, 28, missed six tackles. The popular Broncos right edge players aren’t seeing much ball or doing anything fruitful when they do have it. Kotoni Staggs, 36, had just five hit-ups and three errors. Selwyn Cobbo, 22, had eight hit-ups and four errors.

Watchlist: Patrick Carrigan, 71, had 60 in base stats, a few tackle bust and offloads. Reuben Cotter, 62, had 56 in base stats and four tackle busts in his first game of the season. Griffen Neame, 65, played 47 minutes and had a try, linebreak and 41 in base stats.

Sea Eagles 13-12 Bulldogs

Highs: Reuben Garrick, 72, had a try, two linebreaks and two goals in a wet game that proved tough for both teams to score in. Tom Trbojevic, 66, had a massive 25 hit-ups which is a great sign for owners. He had a try and went close to scoring another. Matt Dufty, 66, equalled Turbo’s score with a linebreak and try assist.

Lows: Jack Hetherington, 13, played just 28 minutes before succumbing to a shoulder injury. Popular cheapie Ethan Bullemor, 12, had just 24 minutes, while Andrew Davey had the other 56 minutes on the left edge. Not great for eithers prospects. Manly’s right edge turned the ball over constantly with Daly Cherry-Evans, 62, making five errors and Morgan Harper, 32, making five errors, Jason Saab, 17, three errors, and Haumole Olaku’atu, 35, two errors.

Watchlist: Tevita Pangai Jr, 30, didn’t have a single offload after seven last week.
