KFC NRL SuperCoach 2022 Round 10 wrap: Highs, lows and trade targets

The KFC SuperCoach Mastermind crunches the stats to help you answer the biggest trade issues of the round. ANALYSIS FOR EVERY GAME

Isaiah Papali’i is the dominant forward in KFC NRL SuperCoach for 2022 and stamped his class by stomping over Roosters defenders on his way to the round’s top score with 113.

The Eels right edge backrower backed up for one try and busted through tackles on his own for his second to add massive attacking stats on top of his usual workload of 54 in base stats.

He’s scored more points than any other front rower or second rower and is averaging 84PPG after 10 rounds.

The injury to Ryan Papenhuyzen last week had the biggest impact on Round 10 with 55,000 KFC SuperCoaches trading out the season’s top scorer for options that were more tragic than magic.

Nicho Hynes was the most popular option but switched from halfback to fullback for the Sharks and had just 50 points as their disjointed attack struggled to put points on a Raiders team that had three players in the sin bin over the game.

More than 40% of teams captained Hynes after he put 185 on the Warriors in a 12-man Sharks team last week.

Tom Trbojevic attracted 12500 new owners and delivered one of his worst ever 80-minute scores. He’s now lost more than $400k from his starting price and could be as cheap as $600k in a couple weeks time. Manly teammate Reuben Garrick was another popular trade in who failed this week.

Melbourne Storm guns Cameron Munster and Harry Grant also struggled against the Panthers and with Jahrome Hughes a late out and adding to the missing Papenhuyzen.

Those trades hurt looking at your score right now but they all should be sound moves over the course of the season. Don’t panic, but do turn your attention to your numbers for bye rounds and tally up how many trades you plan on using. This shapes as a good week to take a trade break and see who firms for Origin selection.

It wasn’t a great week for the more popular players with only four players with 30% ownership or more in the top 20 scorers of the round. Those were Papali’i, Izack Tago, Nathan Cleary and Joseph Suaalii.

You can still make some ground on the leaders with astute selections and low ownership players. Cheers to this week’s triple figure heroes plenty of them fall into that category: Papali’i, 113, (45% owned), Ryan Matterson, 107, (1%), Mitchell Moses, 106, (11%) Tago, 105, (59%), Taane Milne, 104, (0.5%), Alex Johnston, 103, (4%), and Marcelo Montoya, 102 (0.4%).

Bulldogs 6-16 Knights

Highs: Bradman Best, 79, scored his best SuperCoach score of the season with his first try since Round 3 and had a try assist too. Mitchell Barnett, 78, returned from suspension with a bang playing 80 minutes on the edge with 56 in base stats, five tackle busts and three offloads. Has a -3 from Round 3 when he was sent off in his rolling average so he’ll only get cheaper and shapes as a great value buy in the coming weeks. David Klemmer, 70, had 63 in base stats and continues to churn out big numbers with a five-round average of 72.

Lows: Matt Dufty, 18, had no attacking stats mostly just hit-ups. Max King, 28, had just 26 minutes on the field, his lowest of the season so far to stop his price rises. He’s doubled in price and can be sold if those minutes continue. Tevita Pangai Jr, 32, attracted almost 2000 new owners last week and played just 44 minutes and had one of his worst scores of the season. Chris Randall, 33, went back to 54 minutes with Phoenix Crossland sharing the hooker role with him. He’s scored well when playing 80 minutes but without the game time he’s a sell probably next week. Leo Thompson, 21, didn’t produce a lot in 36 minutes but dropped a ball with the line wide open. He’s made $100k but hasn’t jagged an attacking stat to help his price move, despite playing all 10 games so far.

Watchlist: Matt Burton, 57, had a try assist, linebreak assist and two forced dropouts. A quality player with bye coverage but the Bulldogs are struggling for points I wouldn’t be brave enough to bring him in. Kalyn Ponga, 53, had a try assist, linebreak assist, try contribution, 26 points from hit-ups and interestingly had the goalkicking duties, though his 2/4 goals didn’t add a lot to his tally. Only his third score over 50 this season and would have to show a bit more to become an option.

Sea Eagles 0-38 Broncos

Highs: Adam Reynolds, 98, in career best form running the show for the Broncos. He had a try, two try assists, 7/7 goals and a kick and regather break. He has a five-round average of 84.4 and has only one score under 50 for the season. Corey Oates, 94, scored two tries to make it nine from 10 games this season. Also impressed with his workrate punching out 34 points in hit-ups. Selwyn Cobbo, 79, scored a hat-trick but two tries were from kicks and another from an intercept. Still that’s seven tries in the past four games big points and big price rises continue for those who were patient with him.

Lows: Te Maire Martin, 17, scored in the teens for the second week in a row after being a popular cheapie trade in his price rises have ground to a halt and he’s picked up a hip injury. Reuben Garrick, 20, almost 7000 trade ins this week after he scored 100+ last week but he had three errors. Tom Trbojevic, 23,

Watchlist: Payne Haas, 53, the most popular FRF played just 56 minutes after a week of nursing his shoulder. Thomas Flegler, 66, had 46 in base stats, three tackle busts and a few offloads in 44 minutes. Patrick Carrigan, 53, played 10 minutes less than last week but was still solid in 54 minutes. Ben Trbojevic, 33, the most popular trade of the week was solid in the centres up against Kotoni Staggs. Another game like that and he’ll have made a quick $100k in two weeks.

Warriors 30-32 Rabbitohs

Highs: Taane Milne, 104, scored a double for the second week in a row on the right wing for the Rabbitohs. He also had eight tackle busts an offload and 32 in base stats. Alex Johnston, 103, on the left wing, struck up his familiar combination with Cody Walker and had a try, try assist, three linebreaks and 10 tackle busts in his first century of the season after notching five in 2021. Marcelo Montoya, 102, had two tries, and a try assist in his first game since Round 5. Cody Walker, 86, had three try assists, his best haul of the season and now has a five round average of 70 after averaging 32.8PPG in the opening five rounds. Jazz Tevaga, 85, had a try, linebreak, 51 in base stats and two offloads in just 54 minutes. Impressive stats and he has handy dual 2RF/HKR status but always seems to have a tough time nailing down a role in the Warriors pack.

Lows: Jacob Host, 0, went off injured after 2 minutes. Kodi Nikorima, 10, came off the bench for 24 minutes after making a mid-season switch from the Warriors to the Rabbitohs. Viliami Vailea, 14, is still sitting in 27% of teams and desperately needs some attacking stats to drive his price up.

Watchlist: Daejarn Asi, 84, has been impressive since joining the Warriors from the Cowboys and locked in some nice price rises for the few who traded him in. He had a try, try assist, linebreak, linebreak assist, three tackle busts, a forced dropout and 29 in base stats. Reece Walsh, 76, had a try assist and kicked 5/5 goals. Lachlan Ilias, 33, scored a try and still scored low. Tohu Harris, 37, played 29 minutes in his first game of the season return from a knee injury. Always a quality option but there’s no rush to buy him early. His price should take a dip before the bye round. Jai Arrow, 63, filled in at lock for the injured Cameron Murray and had 61 in base stats in 80 minutes. Host going off injured early likely impacted his game time. Shaun Johnson, 56, scored just his second score above 50 for the season. He’s never been cheaper if you want to take a punt on a form revival and bye coverage. Blake Taaffe, 67, had a try, try assist and kicked 4/6 goals to lock in another stack of price rises. Campbell Graham, 54, popped up on the left centre slot, which moves him to the Rabbitohs favoured attacking side and more chance of adding to his already impressive base stats.

Titans 20-16 Dragons

Highs: The 10 extra minutes of this golden point thriller naturally pushed some base stats a little higher in this one. Ben Hunt, 94, bounced back with his best score of the season after posting a career worst 4 in 80 minutes last week. He had two try assists, a 40/20, two linebreak assists, four tackle busts and two offloads. Beau Fermor, 83 scored a try for the second week in a row and had 61 in base stats. Locks in a few more price rises into the bye coverage. Toby Sexton, 81, had two try assists and four forced dropouts in his best score of the season. Is very cheap after a couple of lean rounds but also lost the goalkicking duties to Jamayne Isaako. Jarrod Wallace, 80, crashed over for a try and had 42 in base stats. Moses Suli, 80, scored his first try of the season. He had averaged just under 50 without those big attacking stats. Alexander Brimson, 80, after four weeks without an attacking stat he finally delivered with a try, try assist, linebreak assist and three tackle busts.

Lows: Josh McGuire, 13, was sin-binned. Herman Ese’ese, 17, was sent off at Magic Round last year so this is an improvement.

Watchlist: Moeaki Fotuaika, 73, had 63 in base stats and five tackle busts. He should make the Qld team but if he doesn’t a strong bye coverage option. Jayden Campbell, 71, had 32 points from hit-ups, a linebreak and a massive 13 tackle busts in his first game since Round 3. Phil Sami, 54, had 37 in base stats and six tackle busts. He hasn’t scored under 50 this season in his six games. Mikaele Ravalawa, 42, hasn’t scored a try since a hat-trick in Round 1 and has dropped more than $200k. Could become a cheapie option at this rate. Zac Lomax, 37, has been a solid scorer so far but he hasn’t had a try since Round 2.

Storm 6-32 Panthers

Highs: Izack Tago, 105, was ditched by almost 7000 SuperCoachs this week and delivered a punishing blow for the impatient traders. He had two tries, two linebreaks and eight tackle busts on top of 37 in base stats. Nathan Cleary, 85, bounced back from a 40 last week with a try assist, two try contributions, 6/6 goals, two forced dropouts and a linebreak assist. Set for some big price drops with that 40 in his rolling average for anyone who hasn’t got him yet. Viliame Kikau and Jarome Luai, 84 joined Tago among the points on the left side for the Panthers. Kikau had a try, try assist and linebreak. Luai, 84 finally found some points with a try, linebreak and two try assists, after averaging 29PPG in his previous three games.

Lows: Xavier Coates, 8, had just six runs and missed three tackles. There’s probably no more rocks and diamonds options for SuperCoaches. Brandon Smith, 28, played 31 minutes off the bench. He’s just not going to be an option this year with Josh King nailing the lock role and Harry Grant playing the full 80 minutes. Should be one of the most popular picks for 2023 the way his value is dropping.

Watchlist: Speaking of value... Brian To’o, 45, is leaking cash too without a try to his name yet. He still pumped out a stack of runs and nine tackle busts in this one.

Sharks 10-30 Raiders

Highs: Josh Papalii, 90, had his best score of the season with a try, linebreak, three offloads, three tackle busts and 46 in base stats. Corey Harawira-Naera, 68, scored a try and had three offloads on top of 40 in base stats in 57 minutes. Sebastian Kris, 68, had a try and try assist as he took the spot of the injured Jarrod Croker. Royce Hunt, 65, scored a try and had five tackle bust in 28 minutes. A cheapie not many have grabbed set for some solid price rises now.

Lows: Xavier Savage, 5, came off the bench for just 10 minutes and is gradually heading to bottom dollar price. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, 22, is hardly scoring sensationally. Can we get Savage to fullback in time for the bye round please Ricky? Siosifa Talakai, 34, has a three-round average of 40 since his 165-point demolition job on Manly.

Watchlist: Ronaldo Mulitalo, 59, had seven tackle busts and two linebreaks. Still has a 24 from last week in his average so should come down in price and be an option after the bye round. Cameron McInnes, 57, had 56 in base stats in 59 minutes. Good numbers but I’d love to see him play 80 minutes since he doesn’t appear to have the attacking upside of other options. Wade Graham, 46, had 37 in base stats and some nice touches but his return on the left has seemed to have had an impact on the fast clean service to the likes of Talakai and Mulitalo.

Roosters 31-24 Eels

Highs: Isaiah Papali’i, 113, scored two tries, had a linebreak, five tackle busts, two offloads and 54 in base stats. The best forward in KFC SuperCoach this season. Ryan Matterson, 107, again only played 55 minutes but as I pointed out last week it’s not impacted his scored too much. He’s just so busy and coming up with attacking plays he’s averaging 70PPG but in just 1% of teams. He had 60 in base stats, six tackle busts, two offloads a try and a linebreak. Mitchell Moses, 106, had a try, two try assists, kicked 4/4 goals, but also missed nine tackles. The combination on the right edge for the Roosters is starting to click with Joey Manu, 91, and Joseph Suaalii, 84, top of their scorer list.

Lows: Victor Radley, 11, went off injured after 17 minutes. Tom Opacic, 14, was sin-binned.

Watchlist: Sam Walker, 69, had a try, try assist and kicked 4/6 goals but his price continues to drop thanks to that 9-point shocker against the Bulldogs. Angus Crichton, 43, played the full 80 minutes again but he’s just not scoring well. Sitili Tupouniua, 77, does look more threatening at the moment and was back in the starting team after being relegated to the bench last week for 14 points. He should drop below $500k before the bye with that one in his average.

Tigers 12-36 Cowboys

Highs: Murray Taulagi, 99, scored two tries and had a try assist with a miracle pass as he leapt over the sideline. Could have had a third try but his boot caught the tiniest bit of the sideline. On the end of a buzzing Cowboys attack he’s one to take a look at. Reuben Cotter, 89, scored his first NRL try, had four tackle busts and 55 base stats in 63 minutes. Playing himself into the Qld team with this sort of form. Peta Hiku, 87, scored his first try of the season and had a try assist and a couple offloads too. He got an early breather playing just 64 minutes, Reece Robson, 83, had 55 in base stats, two offloads, a try assist and linebreak assist. He played 80 minutes again and could be a good backup hooker option to cover the bye.

Lows: Jason Taumalolo, 24, played just 31 minutes not coming on the field in the second half. No word on an injury but with the game sewn up maybe Todd Payten was happy to give minutes to his other forwards and save Taumalolo’s energy for tougher matches ahead against the Storm and Panthers. Jake Simpkin, 16, failed a HIA.

Watchlist: Kelma Taulagi, 46, topped the tackle count for the Tigers with 38 but only had 3 hit-ups for the game. Stefano Utoikamanu, 42, bounced back after just 6 points last week. Keep him on your radar as he works his way back from injury. Will be a great downgrade option after the first bye. Scott Drinkwater, 46, had a try and a linebreak but again got a second half breather to get Hamiso Tabui-Fidow some minutes.
