Sam Bremner’s infectious energy helped deliver State of Origin success to NSW and in retirement it’ll be no different.

The Sky Blues and Jillaroos champion will channel her magic into coaching, joining Kylie Hilder’s staff ahead of this year’s historic three-game series.

“The minute I heard she’d retired I reached out straight away to see if she’d come on board and be involved in our campaign,” Hilder says.

“She’s going to be one of our assistants this year and most importantly, she’s our blue shirt.

“You know how hyped and positive she is and the energy she brings, she is perfect for that role.”

Bremner’s dogged competitiveness made her one of the best players in the women’s game across a decade-long career, which ended at the end of 2022 with a World Cup win with the Jillaroos in England.

She’s since had her third child, Cali, but the 32-year-old remains as fit as ever.

Her personality and positivity will be a secret weapon for NSW as they fight to win back the shield from Queensland.

“She’s fit in really well. All the girls have a lot of respect for her,” Hilder says.

“She’s just coming off playing, but she’s been a player in the game that’s relevant now, the women’s game is evolving quickly.

“She’s working with the outside backs around yardage carries, positional play. She’s got a smart footy brain.”

Bremner joins fellow former Jillaroos captain Ruan Sims on the coaching staff along with Hilder, who is set to narrow down her NSW squad in the coming fortnight.

The Sky Blues have been through a six-week training camp which finishes up at the end of this week in preparation for the newly expanded three game series.

Game one is in Brisbane on May 16 to kick off Magic Round, with games to follow in Newcastle and Townsville.
