IN a match dominated by defence, who starred and who struggled in State of Origin game one? And which player did the unforgivable?

Check out our Game One player ratings.

Matthew Moylan 6
Was involved and had some good attacking moments but needs to be more self-assured under the high ball.
FULLBACK
Darius Boyd 8
Outstanding at the back for the Maroons. Classy and a real threat with the footy and didn’t put a foot wrong all night.
Josh Mansour 7.5
Didn’t react quick enough for Gagai’s try but wasn’t over-awed and fine debut overall.
WING
Corey Oates 7
Didn’t have a heap to do and Maroons guilty of not going to him enough but a fine debut all the same.
Michael Jennings 6
Looked sharp at times but in a game dominated by defence, just never saw enough space to cut loose.
CENTRE
Greg Inglis 6
One or two glimpses of what he is capable of but rarely in the game for the Maroons.
Josh Morris 5.5
Defence his highlight but a couple of schoolboy fumbles including one from a tap restart unforgivable of this level.
CENTRE
Justin O'Neill 6
Took an early knock but recovered and was good defensively without getting any defensive chances.
Blake Ferguson 6
Had plenty to do with several kick returns and was solid without coming up with anything special.
WING
Dane Gagai 7
Scored the Maroons try and was always looking to put himself in the game at every opportunity.
James Maloney 7.5
Laid on Cordner’s try and looked the most likely of the Blues players to create something in attack.
5/8
Johnathan Thurston 7
Not the influence he has had in past games but still came up with some big plays that kept his side’s nose in front.
Adam Reynolds 5
Should he hold his spot for game 2? Kicking was average at best and offered very little direction and creativity with the football.
H/BACK
Cooper Cronk 6.5
Kicking game has been better but still played solidly for a player under an injury cloud for the week leading up.
Aaron Woods 7
Came up with a really strong first half shift but didn’t get back on until late in the game.
PROP
Matthew Scott 6.5
Some big surges when he came back on in the second half but was generally pretty well contained by the Blues.
Robbie Farah 7
Strong first half and made a heap of tackles but could not come up with the clutch play when it mattered in the second half.
HOOKER
Cameron Smith 7
Not a major influence in attack but big defensive workload and clever at slowing down the Blues ruck all night.
James Tamou 6.5
Did a reasonable job but couldn’t find an off-load and well contained after getting a surprise chance to start.
PROP
Nate Myles 5
Was a controversial selection and was over-shadowed by teammates on the bench.
Boyd Cordner 8
Was the Blues’ best. Ran a great line for his try and rarely missed getting over the advantage line with his surges.
2ND ROW
Matt Gillett 7.5
Carried his good club form into this game and ripped into the Blues with his defence all night.
Josh Jackson 7.5
Not a major contributor with the footy but his defence on the Blues’ right edge was superb and he more than justified his selection.
2ND ROW
Sam Thaiday 6
Gave 100 per cent as usual but did not have the impact that he has had at this level previously.
Paul Gallen 7
His usual whole-hearted effort in both attack and defence but not the influence he has been in previous Origins.
LOCK
Corey Parker 7.5
Was one of the Maroons best and took plenty of stopping all game.
Greg Bird 7
Thrown into the game in the first half and was strong in both attack and defence.
I/CHANGE
Michael Morgan 3.5
Was knocked rotten by Klemmer and not out there long enough to make an impression.
Dylan Walker 1
A wasted selection. Only had time to contribute a late error.
I/CHANGE
Josh McGuire 7
Big work-rate and plenty of metres when he was thrown into the game.
David Klemmer 7
His usual rampaging self. Put Morgan out of action with one big carry.
I/CHANGE
Aidan Guerra 4
Went on for Morgan in the second half and didn’t see much action.
Andrew Fifita 7
Saved until the second half and his impact off the bench for a 10 minute period lifted the Blues.
I/CHANGE
Josh Papalii 7.5
Continually put his side on the front foot with his surging runs in his best game for the Maroons.
