State of Origin 2017: Game II Maroons win followed ‘spray from Bob Katter’

THE Maroons’ incredible comeback last night came after they copped a verbal spray at half-time from one of the best talkers in town ... or did it?

THE secret weapon in Queensland’s spectacular second-half comeback in last night’s State of Origin has been revealed... or has it?

The Maroons copped a half-time verbal spray from one of the best talkers in town, none other than the man in the hat, Bob Katter, if a tongue-in-cheek photo Tweeted by Sportsbet is anything to go by.

You wouldn’t be surprised for believing the member for Kennedy, who arguably has as much maroon blood running through his veins as Game II heroes Johnathan Thurston and Dane Gagai, gave a talking to the Queensland team in the dressing room at half-time. His knack for delivering rambling yet colourful speeches would surely provide the Queensland team with the shot in the arm required to take the upper hand in the second half. But the photo is clearly questionable - identical to Mr Katter in Parliament back in March.

In the Photoshopped post, Mr Katter can be seen wildly pointing at the players, in what has been referred to as “giving the boys a spray in the sheds”.

Earlier today, he tweeted: “I can neither confirm nor deny the rumours I had a few quiet, calm and measured words to the Qld boys at half-time last night.”

Even though the photo is fake, the Maroons could perhaps keep him in mind for Game III in case a pep talk is needed.

Never one to miss a political opportunity, Mr Katter shot off a further tweet to suggest his unique skills could be used by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in the Coalition party room.

“Yeh @TurnbullMalcolm has been trying to get me to talk to the Party room ... Fair go, Malcolm, I said,” he tweeted.

Mr Katter caused a stink last month when he issued a press release to announce he was making an official complaint about the selection of Darius Boyd ahead of Billy Slater.

In another tweet today, Mr Katter made it clear he was pleased to see Slater back in the team.

“I deeply appreciate Kevvie bringing back @billyslater & this may have led to a closer relationship ... but I’m saying nothing more than that.”
